This video elegantly demonstrates that true outdoor mastery lies in the invisibility of one's presence and a deep understanding of woodland ecology. It is a refreshing shift from performative survivalism to genuine environmental stewardship.

Finally , it's happened in bluebell woods . Wildcamping no trace,British army pocket knife.Added:
Hello, welcome back to the channel and we're here in Blue Bell Woods. Um yeah, we came here a few weeks ago on the um expectation to see blue bells and there wasn't really any around. Um my place on top of the hill which is more suddenly facing all the blue bells have gone past their best and they're beginning to fade away. But because um this woodland, the orientation of it um is a little bit off. is a little bit behind my place and as you can see all the blue bells are in bloom. It's looking absolutely glorious in here. Even though it's a gloomy day, these uh woodlands are just totally brightened up with all these flowers in bloom and it's a real privilege to be in here amongst it. So, I have encountered a few dog walkers. Uh I'm not, you know, in this particular area on my own. I brought a flask of coffee. And I did actually bring um a mat for me to sit down on just to well make it a bit more comfortable and enjoy this area for a few moments or perhaps just a little bit longer than a few moments. Um I'm going to walk up to the area I usually do a wild camp. Just take that in and have a look. But for a moment, I'm just going to have a coffee here. Um, it's not far from where I've parked the car because obviously I'm still, you know, posttop and trying to recover, but that said and done, it's been an easy walk and I've gone slow and steady and I'm just going to rest here with a coffee at the moment and uh well, take in the beauty of this woodland and just relax for a moment or two.
So, I could only imagine how spectacular all those blue bells would look with uh sunlight and um all the sun dancing off the shadow of the leaves and on the leaf litter with those blue bells. coming up through with those little blue trumpets, it would look absolutely spectacular.
But even in this gloomy north Cornish light, um, which is threatening to rain.
Um, it has done all day, threatened to rain, but it hasn't. I'm kind of expecting thunder to be honest with you, the way the skies look. But in any case, um, even in this light, it's looking absolutely beautiful. And um when I'm up near the blue bells, obviously I'm watching where I'm standing and I'm taking the path where um I don't have to go trudging right the way through and leave dirty great footprints like I've plowed a field through it. I am skirting past it. Interestingly, there's very little uh uh in the way of blue bell coverage on this slope here, and I think that's probably due to the leaf canopy.
And um there's a lot of beach trees here and I find where there's a lot of beach trees. You get very little in the way of plants and other tree species near them.
Um we've got holly here and a few oaks further down, but I think it's something to do with the beach trees they've got in their leaves and and rotting nutcases and things like that. I think it's kind of like toxins which clear the area around those beach trees. That's what I think. I'm not 100% sure. I could be wrong. More than likely wrong. But wherever you find beach trees, it's usually nice open patches around them.
But um and a lot of trees do do that in the world actually. They actually put down um inhibitors to stop other plants and trees growing around them. So, you know, it's a valid theory of mine anyway, but once you get over the rise to where I camp and drop down the back side of this little cliff face, it's just a sea of blue blue bells till you get out to the far side where the bracken is.
Um, there are other woodlands around me which are just as spectacular. It's just the ease of access to this one. And um that's probably why I've seen a couple dog walkers. They're all elderly people with their dogs. Um well, not much older than me myself to be honest with you, but they're they're having a a nice leisurely walk. And um there's no wind.
It is warm and like I said, it's extreme pleasant being out here. And um I just needed to get out the house yet again.
Um I do feel kind of a little bit claustrophobic if I'm in the house all the time. And um yeah, I've done whatever I've needed to do today. So this is my kind of like 30 40 minute window. I'm just going to come here and do this and uh yeah, have a coffee.
There are no chocolate biscuits because I've noticed just in a short time since the holiday and me going into the operation and everything like that, I've started to have the weight creep back on. So, I'm trying to monitor a little bit of what I'm doing so far as those treats are concerned with my coffee.
Now, I'm finding that this eye just wants to stay close. The the actual muscles around it are still quite weak from the operation. So, that's why I'm squinting with this eye. Um, basically, it's trying to rest itself. So, I may look a little bit silly really like I'm contorting my face. I have taken some painkillers because I have uh quite a lot of pain um obviously with what they did there. But um yeah uh what else has happened at home since um I last spoke to you? Yeah. Um we've had um we lost a chicken. We're considering um getting two white ones now to replace the one we've lost. Obviously produce white eggs. We've got a few um brown brown hens and obviously Bluey which incidentally she's 7 years old and still producing eggs randomly and sporadically. Blue eggs uh hence bluey but um yeah a chicken producing eggs at 7 years of age. And also if we're talking uh um animal related topics in a valley um not too far from here actually a few valleys over near a village of South Pelin. I did see on the social medias that um a walabe has been run over on the road. Now I have heard people talking about wild walabbees out in the countryside. So, it seems like there are wild walabbees not too far from where I am now. So, I will be clamping this phone pretty close to me in the vain hope I see some wild walabbees um well bouncing or springing or whatever they do across the countryside here. But yeah, how random is that? Um well, it's sad for a walabbee. Obviously, it's a road traffic accident, but um the fact remains that, you know, there are walabes, you know, bouncing around out here in North Cornwall.
Right then, folks, this is my um it's become my favorite and newest EDC pocket knife for when I'm out with the dogs.
Um, it's a British Army Service pocket knife. Um, I'm going to do a video on it and go into it more in depth. But in any case, I'll just let you have a quick look. Obviously, it's got a lamb's foot blade there.
It's got, if I can open it, a spike and it's got like a kind of tin opener and uh what have you. Well, a big hook as well. So, yeah, this has become my new favorite pocket knife, and there's a reason for that, and I'll go into that in when I do a bit more of a video on this. I just thought I'd show it to you guys. Um, yeah, for dog walking, this has been a godsend for me.
And, um, yeah, it's become a bit of a treasured item actually. So, yeah, I'm going to get a piece of string on it so I don't lose it so I can attach it to my belt buckle like I do all my other pocket knives.
Right, talking about animals, let me pick up a stick. I don't want to touch it with my hands.
Right, let me make sure I don't slide over here. Like I said, I'm trying to be extremely cautious.
There's a load of fur here. Now, if it was just this, I would say it was an ordinary rabbit, but it's not. Look at all this black fur there.
Now, this is another thing as well. We've got a very large population of black rabbits, not just a standard gray ones. And they've kind of spread over from that same sort of area and the Lancen way.
Black rabbits have become not an unusual sight in fields alongside ordinary colored rabbits. So, I'm guessing that black is from one of those black rabbits. I'm guessing it's a lot of it.
Right.
As you can see what I mean, there's no real blue bells on this slope.
So, we'll continue up here.
And if you remember rightly, we don't actually have much option for uh wild camping in here. Obviously, if you was a hammock uh camper and had that set up, knock yourself out, there's plenty of places to string a hammock up.
But if you're one of those pesky lowife uh ground dwellers like me, you're a little bit limited if you don't want to spend a whole night uh sliding backwards out of your uh shelter.
Right. As we come up here, you start to see blue bells in amongst the leaf litter.
But as we approach the actual well hill or ridge line here, you'll start to see them all again.
And that looks absolutely magical. Whoa, look at it.
And this is where we camp, folks.
Look at it.
If only there was better sunlight.
Let's come up here and look down on it.
Whoa.
Look at that.
There you go.
Now, on that magnification, it's giving you a slightly better idea of what I can see in person.
And even on film, it doesn't do it justice.
Look at it.
Right, I'm actually walking on the old trackway um or remnants of it, but um I'm stood where we actually camp and there's still blue bells coming up through this particular area. Um as you can see, so it's evident when I wild camp, I do have minimal impact on the ground. Um, so that's pretty much I'm pleased with that. To see all those blue bells coming up on the area I was wild camping, it just goes to show you can tread lightly on the land if you really go out of your way to do so.
Now, this is a recent wild camp I did in this exact location, and you can see we're just coming out of winter into spring.
It is actually steeper than it looks on camera.
And I've got to pick the best way up.
There's a lot of um rotting deadfall and and there's a lot of holly in here, incidentally.
It's only a small patch of woodland on this side. On the opposite side, there's a huge amount of woodland, forestry woodland. This is a small little patch of uh uh native woodland, which makes it so special.
There is a lot of native woodland around here, but just in this particular area, we're surrounded by a lot of um commercial woodland.
And this is this is a pharaoh a pharaoh steep drag up. I'm not getting my bedding out or anything. Setting up all that yet. I don't give the bugs a chance to uh share my sleeping bag with me. Right.
And you can see what I mean. This is uh pretty much the flattest part because after here it goes up into the field and uh it continues up.
But this is us for tonight.
Woo.
And looking at these uh film footage, you can evidently see the contrast is really marked. And to think only a few months later from this wild camp, I'm now here surrounded by blue bells.
Right, I'm just coming out of this little bit of woodland and uh I showed it to you before on camera, but this usually after they've done um they burn this particular ground to get rid of all the um bracken and it's almost like a skirt uh scorched earth policy.
But look, all that green beginning to come back.
And I can actually see blue bells starting to migrate down into it already.
So that kind of like agricultural practice does actually serve a purpose.
If you look at it with the untrained eye, you think it's absolute destruction, but um yeah, it's actually starting to all come back to life again now.
I guess it just keeps all the bracken in check and stops it taking over the whole bit of ground. Right, if I bring you back in around here, we're heading back into the woodland.
I've got to get back up this slope.
And the wind has picked up and I can feel rain in the air. So, I'm going to be heading off home.
So, this is the area that we usually set up the tarp. All this area around here.
And as you can see, we still have loads of blue bells surrounding us. And I'm really pleased about that cuz this is where we actually get the tarp.
So yeah, that's actually put me in a little bit of a good mood. I actually realized that uh well I I tried to have a minimal impact, but to actually see it in person, you do realize uh it does work.
Right then, guys. Um yeah, blue bell woods and doesn't it look glorious uh with all these flowers out as as I've shown you and as I keep saying would have been better to have better lighting conditions but not everything works in your favor and uh when you want it to happen quite often it doesn't but even so you can still see the beauty of this woodland and more than likely you've got woodlands near you or you've been to woodlands with blue bells just as spectacular and I do think it's been a good year for them. But um it's time for me to say goodbye to um this woodland.
I can feel the wind just beginning to pick up and the odd spit of uh rain. So I am going to make best effort to get home and I will probably actually lie down in a dark room to let my eye rest. But uh in any case, I wanted to show you Blue Bell Woods because we wild camped here and I was rather hoping then perhaps the blue bells would be starting to show but they didn't.
And then we came back here on that occasion just for a look see and I failed then. But I've brought you here and they're out. You can see them in all their glory. But in any case, I'm going to make my way home. So all that's left to be said is take care, stay safe, and I hope to catch you guys on the trail.
Well, folks, I wasn't lying about the rain. It's absolutely hoofing down. Got back just in time.
