Retro Friday: Rocket StovesAdded:
[music] >> Good morning and welcome to Rose Red Homestead where we are so excited today.
This is our first Retro Friday and if you're not sure what that is, that it means you might want to go back and watch Monday's video where we explain in the news segment what we are doing with Retro Friday. So as Jim and I thought about the topic for our first Retro Friday, I was just drawn to rocket stoves. As you all know, we love to have redundancy systems in place especially for off-grid cooking and rocket stoves are one of the things that we have ready in case the grid goes down. One of the great things about a rocket stove is that you can use several types of fuel. So we have we have used charcoal. We are very fortunate. Our property has lots of um debris from plants and trees. So we have yard waste and wood chips and things like that that we can use for fuel and so it is very very fuel efficient because the fuel for us is free and if your situation is similar or if you have a way of fuel that is very inexpensive, you might want to consider.
Now one of the things that we are doing with these Retro Fridays is we're doing it this brief introduction and then at the end of this video, you are going to see in this particular video three thumbnails leading you to additional videos directly about rocket stoves and what they can do. And so that's the whole point. We're going to introduce them and then we're going to leave it to you. So a brief introduction and then you will have the option of increasing your knowledge, your understanding, or reviewing your knowledge with those three videos. So we're going to start with our first video way back in um 2020. That was our first video that we did. So actually you can go back in time with this video. It is called off-grid cooking with rocket stoves and you can you will be able to see me with longer hair and in my skinnier days.
Um Jim and I are trying very hard to bring those skinnier days back and go even farther than we were at that point in time at for our health's sake. So we're working hard on that. But you'll see me and and you'll even see me we do some cooking on a rocket stove. I introduce what it is in that video and then I fix Jim's breakfast on it and then we move over to a cement pad by our garage and I show you how to build one with four um what are those called Jim? Cinder blocks. Yeah, cinder blocks. You'll you'll see me hitting cinder blocks with a hammer. So the next video was in uh '23 where I demonstrate three meals on a rocket stove. So we do breakfast, lunch, and dinner on our rocket stove and that was a fun fun video. We even make raspberry syrup for some pancakes. You know, we have friends who don't eat white sugar and as I was showing in making the raspberry um syrup I was showing pouring in the sugar I thought oh I have friends who won't like this recipe but it was what it was back then. So there you go. So you'll see three meals that we cook on this very rocket stove. And then the last one we did just a few months ago last fall and it was where we cooked beans from scratch on the rocket stove. And then at the end of that video, you will see our screen porch that we just had built.
Probably it had just base barely been finished at that point in time. And we love that so much. We eat at out at that table all the time. And you'll see our little porch bed. Um we explain what that porch bed is all about in the video that we did on our new screen porch. So um it's one of our favorite places to be.
>> [sighs and gasps] >> I hope that you enjoy those three videos. We have really enjoyed having access to this rocket stove. It is a great addition to our redundancy equipment for cooking off-grid. And in [music] each one of the videos that we present is the information where you can go on Amazon and check this out. This is a This is a winner. Let us know what other topics you would like to see us address in our Retro Fridays. And we'll go digging back through our just almost 900 videos to see what we can find to put together a little package on a topic of interest to you. So thanks very much.
Enjoy these videos and we'll be back next Friday for another Retro Friday.
