The Holy Spirit is not an abstract force or 'it' but is the third person of the Trinity, a divine person who indwells believers to bring order out of chaos, provide power for God's assignments, and help Christians live empowered lives; unlike the Old Testament when the Spirit only came upon people for service, after Pentecost the Holy Spirit indwells all believers regardless of background, making God's power available to everyone.

You Weren’t Meant to Do This Alone | Pastor Steve Robinson本站添加:
Have you ever found yourself saying something like this? I love Jesus. I want to do God's will in the earth. I want to fulfill God's plan for my life, but I simply lack the strength.
I know I've said that before. I love Christ.
I know I'm saved. I know my name is written down in the Lamb's Book of Life.
I want to do God's will, but but I I lack the power to do it.
If you've ever said that, this is the series for you. Matter of fact, we're going to talk about the power of the Holy Spirit over the next 5 weeks. I've never taught this long, but I just feel such a conviction to do it because there's so many Christians. They're tired. They're weary. They need an injection of God's power. They need to understand the power that's available to them on a daily basis. I'm going to be talking about who the Holy Spirit is.
There's a lot of questions. There's a lot of concerns. There's a lot of what I would say unknowns about the Holy Spirit. Matter of fact, we're going to be talking about who the Holy Spirit is over the next 5 weeks. What the Holy Spirit wants to do in our lives. How many of y'all with a show of hands would say that you need more of God's power.
Come on in your life. How many of y'all would say that? Hey, you've come to the right service. How many of y'all excited about this series? Y'all excited?
>> [applause] >> The reality is God designed us to live by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Speaking of how God powerfully works in our life, I did hear something funny this week about our old friend Boudreaux.
Tibo walked up to Boudreaux said, he said, "My cher, what's wrong with you?"
He says, "Man, I says I'm concerned. I need prayer for my hearing."
So, Tibo put his hand on his ear. He started praying for Boudreaux's hearing.
Afterwards, he goes, "How's your hearing?" Boudreaux goes, "I don't know.
It's not till next Tuesday when my court date is." Come on, somebody.
Now, we do need to know what we're praying for. Come on, we need we need information.
We we do need information. There There is There's something about understanding what God has called us to do as Christians. I I meet so many Christians that are frustrated, they feel burdened, they feel burned out, weary in their life. I've I've been in all those places before.
But when you begin to understand who the Holy Spirit is, today my message is entitled empowered for relationship.
Empowered for relationship.
Right before Jesus went to the cross, he had a conversation with his disciples.
And they were very concerned by the way about what he was saying. John chapter 16 verse five. Jesus says this intriguing statements he makes.
He says, "But now I'm going away to him who sent me.
And none of you asks me, 'Well, where are you going?'
But because I've said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.
Nevertheless, I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage. Some of you Some of your translations say, "It's to your benefit."
It's to your advantage, these are the words of Jesus, that I go away, for if I do not go away, the helper Everybody say, "The helper."
If I don't go away, the helper will not come to you.
But if I depart, I'll send him to you.
Now, that's an interesting statement.
It was very scary for those disciples.
They had walked with Jesus for 3 years.
They had seen Jesus do miracles.
They were stranded in the desert one time. Jesus is multiplying French bread and speckle trout. I mean, Jesus is doing all kind They're like, "No problem. That's Jesus. We've got a need, he'll meet the need."
And now he turns to them and says, "Hey guys, let me let you in on something.
I'm about to go away. I'm going to depart. But it's to your benefit that I go away, because if I don't go away, the helper is It's going to come." Now, I've got I had some real close friends growing up and I mean we were together all the time. Can you imagine? I mean, can you imagine the fear that hit the heart of those disciples and they thought, "Wait a minute, time out, time out, time out."
Jesus is going where?
I want you to think about this. What if just imagine this.
Jesus Christ, the person of Christ literally, physically was with you 24/7.
I want you to think about that. And whatever you needed, whatever the concern was, WHATEVER THE QUESTION WAS, YOU had Jesus Christ right there next to you. I want you to think about that. I mean, I mean, at any moment you could turn and there's Jesus.
And then the day comes.
And he says, "Hey, by the way I'm about to leave you." Fear would hit your heart, wouldn't it?
You'd be like, "Wait a minute, Jesus.
Wait, TIME OUT, TIME OUT. YOU'RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE. WHOA, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA."
And then he goes another level.
He said, "Not only am I leav- about to leave you but it's actually to your benefit."
Your benefit? I had a friend growing up that knew everything about everything.
I mean, this is before Google, this is before chat GP whatever.
This is where I mean, the guy was just like it it was like he was like book educated but then he was like street smart. He knew everything about everything about anything you could ask.
We would just ask him.
And the reality is it's like when he wasn't with us, we kind of felt like we you know, we were underserved.
Could you imagine Jesus Christ the son of God being with you 24/7 who was right there and one day he says, "I'm going to leave and it's to your benefit."
Needless to say the disciples were very concerned about this statement.
And then they begin to realize, wait, it's to my benefit because if I don't go away, Jesus said, the helper, everybody say the helper.
The helper will not come to you, but if I go, I'm going to send the helper. How on earth Jesus leaving would be to their benefit?
Jesus Christ in his person when he walked on the earth, right, for 33 years, he could only be in one place at one time. Here's what he said, if I go away, I'm going to send my spirit.
Everybody say my spirit. The spirit of the Holy Spirit is the spirit of Christ.
And guess what? I'm not going to be limited. Here's what he's really saying, I'm not going to be limited by state space-time continuums. In other words, I can answer a prayer in Mandeville and Mumbai. In other words, I can help somebody around the globe. In other words, I'm not going to be limited just being in Jerusalem and Galilee. I can go anywhere. Why? Because my spirit's going to come and my spirit can comfort somebody that's hurting in London and somebody in Liverpool. In other words, my spirit's going to come and help everybody at all time. How many of y'all believe that's good news? That's good news.
>> [applause] >> Well, if that's the case, I need to find out who the Holy Spirit is.
What does he want to do in my life?
The presence of God, Jesus was saying, the Holy Spirit is no longer going to be confined to one place at one time.
I gave my life to Christ October 27, 1987. Some of you heard my story. I was in college and I was in a college Bible study and actually two girls invited me to that Bible study and right after that, a couple of my friends gave their hearts to Christ and about 4 months after I gave my heart to Christ, this would have been about February of 1988.
One of the girls that led me to Christ, she called me and another friend of mine who'd gotten saved alongside of me and she said, I'd like to talk to you guys.
I'd like to meet with you and talk to you about the Holy Spirit.
I was like, the Holy Spirit, okay, sure.
Now, I I'm saved, I'm washed by the blood of Christ, I've trusted Jesus as my savior, I'm water baptized. I'm like, I'm all in.
And she goes, I want to I want to I want to talk to you about the Holy Spirit.
And I'm like, okay, well, I'm I'm I'm open.
And we sat down. She goes, bring your Bible and your pen and paper. So, I had my Bible, I had my pen, I had my paper, and she began to open up the Bible.
And it was like, amazing.
You guys, I remember years ago I was going to go buy a Toyota Camry.
And I remember on the way to the dealership, I didn't want to buy it cuz I realized everybody has a Toyota Camry.
In other words, when you listen, when you focus, everybody say focus. When you focus on something, you realize it's it's more pervasive than you than than than before. It's like, whoa, whoa, whoa, everybody's got it. I began to open up and her name was Linda, and she began to show me in the Old Testament, in the Gospels, in the New Testament.
It's like, the Holy Spirit was all over the Bible.
And I actually said, I said, Linda, why'd you wait 4 months?
Maybe that's where you are as a Christian.
Maybe you're like, you know, I I love Jesus. Like, I I I know I I pray to the Father in the name of Jesus, but it's like, I don't really know about the Holy Spirit. Well, I I'm so glad you're here. I'm going to be teaching over 5 weeks who the Holy Spirit. I'm going to be doing all the messages. I'm super excited about that.
And let me tell you, the world right now, they're hungering for spiritual things.
Movies, podcasts, but you can go into a bookstore. Everybody's like, how do I become spiritual? I go on this pilgrimage, if I do this, if I do that, if I sit in a dark room. In other words, everybody's looking, how do I become spiritual? Let me help everybody. The greatest way to become spiritual is to know Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior and be filled with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit.
>> [applause] >> All those other paths lead to emptiness, but when you meet Christ and he gives you the gift. Christianity is not just being forgiven of your sins. You receive a gift. Everyone say a gift. The gift of the spirit comes to live on the inside of you.
That's the pathway towards spirituality.
The reality is is that when I begin to understand and see in the Bible, the Bible is filled all throughout the scripture the presence of God. I want to be filled with the presence of the Holy Spirit.
Why is it that so many Christians aren't living empowered by the Holy Spirit?
I've kind of compiled the last maybe 25 years all these different questions and and each week I'm going to be opening the scripture, going through the Bible, Old Testament, the Gospels, the New Testament, but I'm also going to be answering questions. So many people have so many questions about who the Holy Spirit. There's a lot of mystery.
There's a lot of questions, a lot of confusion. Let me give you a couple things about why I believe that people are not living empowered by the spirit.
Number one, some people are just fearful of anything about the Holy Spirit, any talk.
Well, pastor, I grew up in the church and you know, they kind of I heard about this other church and you know, and I just I'm I'm comfortable with God the Father and the Jesus, but it's like, you know, that other church or or this church I grew up in and people did weird things in the name of the Holy Spirit. I don't want to be weird. And what happens is just because some people did weird things, we back off. You guys have heard this. We throw out the baby with the what? Say it. Bathwater. In other words, just because somebody did any Listen, I'm not going to let somebody's extreme back me off from the genuine power of God.
Are you with me? We're not going to allow that.
Just because somebody did something weird in the name of Jesus, doesn't mean I'm not going to be a Christian. Why?
Because somebody did something weird.
Some people are just a fearful. They're fearful. Maybe you're reading your Bible, Holy Ghost and that freaked you out. You know, you have a King James like Holy Ghost. I don't want that's Casper. I mean, hold time out.
Etymologically, that's just how they said it in old King James. Are y'all with me?
It's Holy Spirit. Everybody say Holy Spirit. So, some people are just fearful of anything talk about Even when I announce the Holy Spirit, they're like, "Oh, what is he going to talk about? What's going to happen?" Number two, some people are just resistant to the Holy Spirit.
They know Christ, but they feel that prompting from the Holy Spirit, they just don't want to do it. They don't want to obey the Holy Spirit's prompting. It's like, "If I just don't think about it." It reminds me of Stephen's message in Acts chapter 7 verse 51, "You stiff-necked people, your hearts and ears are still uncircumcised.
You're just like your ancestors. You always resist." Everybody say resist.
You always resist. See, when you have knowledge, you have responsibility. Once you have knowledge about something, you have a responsibility to obey God.
If I don't think about it, if I don't know anything about it, then I don't have to obey.
Right? That's not how it works.
The Holy Spirit prompts us to do things.
That's why we want to understand. I'm going to be teaching week three about the voice of the Holy Spirit, how to discern God's speaking to you or not.
That's coming up week three. Here's the third reason. This may be the biggest reason why I believe people are not walking in the fullness of what God has for them, the power of the Holy Spirit.
Here it is. Some people just don't know.
They simply don't understand the Holy Spirit. They haven't been taught, and I'm not somehow lifting myself up at any level um above anybody else, but I will say this, I think it's important for pastors, any church you go to, they ought to teach on the doctrine of the Holy Spirit. They ought to teach teach on who the Holy Spirit is, what the Holy Spirit wants to do in your life. And maybe you're just unaware.
Maybe you've not been through freedom.
We have a freedom small group, we teach on the Holy Spirit. We have foundations where we teach on the Holy Spirit. I am so honored that you're here.
Cuz I'm going to be teaching five weeks on the Holy Spirit. One of the main confusions that people have about the Holy Spirit is they think the Holy Spirit is an add-on to the Christian life, and that the Holy Spirit is an it.
The Holy Spirit is not an it. The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He is a divine person. The Holy Spirit is God.
The Holy Spirit is God.
>> [applause] >> It's not like Star Wars, let the light be with you. No, no, no. The Holy Spirit is God.
Well, how do you know that, pastor? The Bible says that. John chapter 16.
I'm going to build your faith. John 14 actually. Let's read John 14:16. I will pray the Father, this is Jesus. By the way, you see the whole Trinity in this whole thing. I will pray the Father and he will give you another helper. By the way, the word helper allos parakletos.
Allos, another parakletos, one called alongside you. Another helper that he, everyone say he.
Jesus is talking about the Holy Spirit.
That he may abide with you forever. The Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees him nor knows him.
But you know him.
You see that he, him language.
For he dwells with you and will be in you. I want you to notice Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit by saying him and he.
One of the biggest misconceptions about the Holy Spirit is that people think the Holy Spirit is a force, an abstract influence, and not a divine person. Why is that important, Pastor Steve? I'll tell you why it's important. You can ignore a rock, but you can't ignore a person.
If I walk by a rock, I don't have to acknowledge that rock.
The rock's not going to need counseling afterwards.
The rock isn't in a my it's it's an object. Are you with me? It's just If I walk by that rock, now I can just say to somebody else, if it's a nice kind of construction of rock, nice type of thing, I say, "Oh, that's pretty." But I don't have to acknowledge that rock because that rock that rock is not a person.
But if I walk by you guys and and and you know that I know you and you know that I we know one another and I don't acknowledge you. I don't look at you and say, "Hey, how are you doing?
Good to see you." I know people are busy and all that, but but if if if we have eye contact, you know me, I know you and I don't acknowledge you, guess what?
You're going to walk away and your feelings could get hurt. Why? Why didn't Pastor Steve acknowledge me? Why did he And by the way, that goes all all of our interpersonal relationships are that way.
So, we acknowledge people.
We don't have to acknowledge a rock.
When you think of the Holy Spirit as an it versus a person, it shifts your responsibility to acknowledge.
This is really important. Everybody say, "He."
Everybody say, "Him."
Jesus is saying the Holy Spirit is a divine person.
There's a big concept and it's a good concept. You hear a lot of in therapy world, do you feel seen? Do you feel heard? My question is, do you does does the Holy Spirit in your life does he feel seen, heard, and acknowledged by you?
What would happen in our lives if we acknowledged the presence of the Holy Spirit?
What would happen in our prayer life if we acknowledge if we weren't just going through some road thing, but we actually acknowledged the Holy Spirit's presence in our life?
What would change?
Pastor Steve, is this biblical? Yes.
Ephesians chapter 4 verse 30, Paul writes to the church at Ephesus. Listen what he said, this is so powerful.
Here's what he says, "Do not" What's that next word? Come on, say it out loud. What is it? Grieve.
Paul says this. He says, "Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God whom you were sealed with the day of redemption." The Greek word grieve means to offend, sadden, and to make sorrowful.
So when I don't acknowledge the Holy Spirit in my life, I offend, sadden, and I make him feel sorrowful.
Now when you see it in that light, it's different than walking by a rock. I don't have to I don't I have to You You guys remember years ago I just thought of this, it's not was I didn't talk about this last night. Do you How many of you remember Steve Martin and the lonely guy? Anybody This is my age, okay? Remember he had ferns? He was friends with ferns.
Now Now all you young people don't know that. Don't Google it right now.
I I just thought of this, okay? You know, he would have friends with ferns.
I mean, you know, your friend is not your fern.
Are you with me?
That's hilarious. But anyway, so we acknowledge people.
Question, does the Holy Spirit feel seen and heard in your life?
Do not grieve. Everyone say grieve.
Do not sadden, offend, or make the Holy Spirit feel sorrowful.
That's in the Bible.
That puts the Spirit of God in a totally different construct in my mind.
Wow.
Another concept that people have is they go, "Well, you know Well, Pastor, I mean I get it. The Bible, it's Old and New Testament, the Bible it's kind of like in the Old Testament, it's a lot about the Father.
Father God, then the Gospels, Jesus kind of shows up.
Then the Book of Acts, that's the Holy Spirit.
Well, there may be more of an emphasis by way of scripture, but how many of you know the Holy Spirit is right there in the beginning? The Holy Spirit is God.
Co-eternal, all three There's one God.
Everybody say one God.
One God, three different persons. God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. You've sung the doxology. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. It's not three gods, it's one God.
So, the Holy Spirit though is all throughout the Bible. Look at it.
Genesis chapter 1, verse 20. Uh verse 2 actually. Watch this. This is so powerful. It's not like the Holy Spirit just showed up in the book of Acts.
Genesis chapter 1, verse 2. The spirit of God, watch this. I love this. The spirit of God was hovering. Everyone say hovering.
So, you're going to see the Trinity right here. You're going to see the whole thing. This is so powerful. God the Father, the creator, the Son, the spoken word, and you're going to see the Holy Spirit who's the executive arm of the Godhead. Makes things happen in the earth. He's hovering over, watch this. This is The word translated spirit in the Old Testament is the Hebrew word ruach, which means wind, breath, and spirit. From the very first verses of the Bible, we see the spirit of God, watch this, creating, hovering, bringing order out of chaos.
By the way, that's what the Holy Spirit does. When you get born again and you're forgiven of your sin and the Holy Spirit comes to indwell you, guess what he does. He brings order out of the chaos in your life. What sin and trauma and pain and brokenness has done and fragmented your personality. How many of y'all are grateful the Holy Spirit brings order and healing and health to the brokenness of humanity?
>> [applause] >> The same Holy Spirit that brought order out of chaos in the earth does that in our souls.
That's why it's so important you understand. You're not serving a God that's way far off. He comes to indwell.
Everyone say indwell. Indwell, born again men and women of God.
So, the Holy Spirit is all The Holy is God.
Let me give you another one. Genesis chapter 1 verse 26. Here's the Godhead here. Remember, everybody say one God.
It's not three gods. And And I say this respectfully, some of you grew up in in in non-Trinitarian churches. We are Trinitarians at Church of King cuz the Bible teaches that. Genesis chapter 1 verse 26, "Then God said, 'Let us That's communion within the Godhead.
This is powerful. Let us make mankind in our image in our likeness.' The word us gives us a glimpse into the mystery of the Trinity.
The verse says us. Why us? The Trinity is communicating within himself. The The scripture is a clear picture of the Trinity interacting. This is so powerful. One God, three persons. God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. I wrote this down.
What we call the Trinity has operated co-equally, co-eternally, and co-existently as one divine unit from the beginning of time as we know it.
We believe and worship one God, and yet we see in scripture he's expressed in three distinct personalities. God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. This is so important that we understand this.
Every analogy about the Trinity, any human analogy about the Trinity breaks down, but I'm going to give one. I'm going to give one. Think of the sun. The sun itself represents God the Father as a star.
The light radiates Jesus, the light of the world, and the warmth or the energy we feel represents the Holy Spirit. All analogies break down, but it's a star, God the Father. It radiates light, God the Son, and the warmth of the Spirit.
One God, three persons. Why is this so important?
Cuz we have to understand our relationship with God. Let me give you something real technical right now. I'm going to get I'm going to get real biblical, and this is going to all right, this is going to help some of you guys I I trust. Technically speaking, where is God the Father? Now, you can't separate the Trinity, but by way of description, I'm going to show you functionality.
Technically speaking, where is God the Father right now?
Not a trick question. I'm giving you the answers.
Like you like those teachers in school that gave you the answers?
Right, the throne of God. God the Father is at the throne of God. Technically speaking, where is Jesus?
Seated at the right hand of the Father.
How do I know that? Acts chapter 7. You remember the first Christian martyr, Stephen, that who was being martyred?
And he forgave his persecutors, by the way. You want to get God's attention, forgive those who spitefully treat you.
And and and here's what happened. So, the Bible says that Jesus stood up.
Everybody say, "He stood up."
He's like, "Whoa, that's my boy down there, Stephen." By the way, that's what my mom named me. But anyway, so my mom named me Stephen. She goes, "I named you after the first Christian martyr." And then and then I realized one day my middle name is James. That's the second Christian martyr.
Hope that's not prophetic. But anyway, so so so Jesus seated at the right hand of the Father. Technically speaking, who's convincing and convicting the world of their sin? Who's drawing them to Christ?
Who indwells us after we get born again?
Who gives us power when we're weary? Who brings order out of chaos? It's God the Holy Spirit on the inside of you as a child of God.
>> [applause] >> Now, you can't separate the Godhead, but I'm talking about by way of function.
This is so important.
One more big concept. Is this helping anybody? Is this helping any We're going to be doing this for 5 weeks.
Okay.
In the Old Testament, everybody say, "Old Testament." So, we know the Holy Spirit is God. The Holy Spirit has always existed cuz the Holy Spirit is God. One God, three distinct persons.
But in the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit did not indwell people. What he did was he came upon people, don't miss this, with power to equip them for works of service.
So it wasn't until after Pentecost, you'll see this in the New Testament, when the Holy Spirit came to indwell those that were followers of Jesus.
But in the Old Testament, he came upon three different groups of people.
Everybody say prophets.
Everybody say priests. Everybody say kings. Primarily. I say kings because he did come upon judges and judges were like quasi kings before the first king of Israel. All right. So there was a couple other groups, but primarily prophets, priests, and kings.
But he didn't indwell. Let me give you an example. So the Holy Spirit always existed. The Holy Spirit is God.
He didn't just show up with the Book of Acts.
But you see the Holy Spirit came upon people and gave them power for works of service. By the way, I'm going to show you week four, the Holy Spirit come still comes upon us as believer believers and equips us with power to do God's assignment in the earth.
To do what? To be a better mom, to be a The Holy Spirit doesn't make you, watch this, better than anyone else. The Holy Spirit just makes you a better you.
He equips you to do what God's called you to do. Does that make sense?
This is important.
All right, let me get back. Watch this.
So in the Old Testament, the first leader of Israel his name was King Saul.
Samuel's the prophet. Watch this. First Samuel chapter 10 verse 1. Everybody say come upon.
So the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament just came upon people. Didn't live within people, but he came upon people.
Prophets, priests, and kings primarily.
First Samuel chapter 10 verse 1. Then Samuel took a flask of olive oil and poured it on Saul's head and kissed him saying, "Has not the Lord anointed you?"
The word anoint means to smear upon.
It's the coming upon.
The Holy Spirit comes upon people, Old Testament and New New Testament.
But he just came upon people Old Testament, didn't live within them.
Watch this. First Samuel 10:1, then then Samuel took a flask of oil olive oil and poured it on Saul's head and kissed him saying, "Has not the Lord anointed you ruler over his inheritance?" Look at verse six and seven.
By the way, the power wasn't in the oil.
The oil was just a symbol of the Holy Spirit.
Don't get hung up on different things like that. It's very important. The oil, when we pray we believe the Bible talks about James chapter five. If if anyone among you is sick, let them call the elders of the church and let them come pray over them anointing them with oil.
Healing's not in the oil. Healing is just a symbolic thing of of of a relea- it helps somebody release their faith to trust that Christ is doing something, but the healing power is the Holy Spirit.
Does that make sense?
It's very very very very very important.
So, the spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you and you'll prophesy and you'll be changed into different person. Once these signs are fulfilled to do whatever is in your hand to do, God is with you. So, that was the spirit of God came upon Saul. Guess what? The spirit of God comes upon us today. Every one of you have an assignment from God.
I have an assignment, you have an assignment. The Holy Spirit comes upon me to become a better pastor. The Holy Spirit comes upon you to do whatever God's called you to do.
The Holy Spirit has always come upon people. What is that? When your human ingenuity, intellect, cognition, when it Listen, when it falls short, God's power steps in. IN OTHER WORDS, GOD HELPS YOU TO DO WHAT YOU CAN'T do by yourself. How many of y'all grateful for God's power?
Come on. I'm grateful.
>> [applause] >> BY THE WAY, YOU YOU GUYS REMEMBER THE You remember the commercial, "Don't leave home without it"? How many of y'all "Don't leave home without God's fresh power on your life"? Why would you as a businesswoman or businessman, why would you leave without praying and asking for a fresh infilling of God's power?
Why as a student would you take a test with without asking God, help me? Now, you better study.
But but but God comes upon Everybody say upon.
Week four, that's going to be really really I'm going to use an analogy to help. So, he came upon prophets and priests and king and he it to equip them with power. It's all throughout the Old Testament. The book of Judges chapter 6 verse 34, but the spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon. Gideon was scared.
Gideon was fearful, hiding hiding from the Midianites and God's power came upon him.
I want God's power coming upon. It's not just for the preacher.
It's not just for the priest, the pastor. No, no, no, no, no, no.
Everybody. God's power God wants to come upon you with his power.
I love this. There's been times in my life where man, I've just been under the pressure and the weight of life. It's just like I felt so overwhelmed.
And then I go into that place of prayer and I just sense a fresh infilling of power. David said it this way, anoint me with fresh oil. Everyone say fresh oil.
What was that? It was a it was symbolic.
It was saying, God fill me afresh with your power.
Every single one of us are called to do things for God in life.
And I'm telling you, you need a fresh infilling of God's power.
I'll close with this scripture and then we'll pick up next week.
Remember what I said, the Holy Spirit is a divine person. The Holy Spirit's not an abstract force. The Holy Spirit's not a rock. The Holy Spirit's not an inanimate object inanimate object.
The Holy Spirit is God, the third person of the Trinity, the executive arm of the Godhead. Watch this, that makes things happen in the earth.
All the way back to creation, the Holy Spirit's hovering over chaos.
And I want to really encourage you, get that picture. Keep that picture. All the chaos you feel on the inside, the fear, the worry, the shame.
By the blood of Christ you can be forgiven, but then the reordering of your personality to become the man, to become the woman that God created you to be. That's why it's so important to be filled with the Holy Spirit. God hews you. He writes the wrongs. He heals. He restores. He quickens. He He orders your internal world. That's what God does.
But in the Old Testament, he only came upon people for works of service, prophets, priests, and kings primarily.
But there is a prophecy. This is so good. There's a prophecy is is when somebody said something in the Old Testament that foretold of a different of a coming time.
It was something that was said 800 years before Christ. I'm going to read it and we'll pick up on this next week. Because God was not satisfied just coming upon people, he actually wanted to indwell people.
Remember the Old Testament, he lived and dwelled in a house of worship. Now, God's presence is here, but how many you know, when you leave here, if you're a Christian, you bring God's presence with you.
>> [applause] >> I know these concepts may be a little bit different, particularly those of you that are new to Christianity, hang with me, all right? This season I know a vacation's coming, but man, if you're out of town, watch online. I'm going to be teaching line upon line, precept upon precept, the doctrine and the work of the Holy Spirit. So, there's a prophecy 6 800 years before Christ, the book of Joel. Here it is.
Watch this. Remember I said prophets, priests, and kings? They're the only ones that kind of got in on that power, the power of God in the Old Testament.
Joel said there's coming a day, "Afterward I'll pour out my spirit on all people." Everyone say all people.
Whoa.
He kind of broadened the field there a little bit.
All people. Now, this was revolutionary to when when when they're hearing this, like, "Wait. I thought it It just a preacher, the evangelist, the prophet.
Wait a minute.
God's power is going to come on all people?
Your sons and your daughters. Woo, this was big.
Men, >> [clears throat] >> women.
They're going to the sons and daughters will prophesy, declare God's word. Your old men That's some of y'all, not me. Your old men will dream dreams. How many of you know the Holy Spirit comes upon our lives with supernatural gifts of dreams? Not every dream that you have is is from God. Sometimes it's a pizza dream.
It's called Domino's or whatever you whatever.
But sometimes it's a Holy Spirit inspired dream and visions. Everybody say visions.
So old men are going to dream dreams.
Young men, look at that next verse.
Watch this next verse. He says, "Even on my servants, both men and women, I'm going to pour out my spirit in those days." Do you know this was the prophecy that Peter spoke about on Acts chapter 2, the fulfillment of the day of Pentecost. Men and women, old and young, they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Now it's not just for the the prophet, priest, and king because Christ Jesus has died and been glorified. He's ascended up to the Father. He's seated at the right hand of God. He's poured out his spirit and now all men regardless of your background, all women regardless of your background can be filled with the spirit of God.
>> [applause] [music] >> Man, that's powerful. That's good news.
Man, that's good news.
I got a lot to talk about the next 5 weeks. I'm telling you this series, faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. As you sit under the teaching of God's word, faith's going to come.
Some of you've been beat up and broken by life and I'm telling you the ordering power of the Holy Spirit's going to move in.
And all the chaos you feel, feel, yes, feel on the inside, God writes the wrongs and heals the broken places.
Where there's no longer chaos on the inside.
I know a lot of Christians, they've been forgiven.
Thank God for the blood of Jesus.
But I'm not just been forgiven. The Holy Spirit has also And by the way, I'm in process. We're all in process.
None of us are fully cooked till we go to heaven. We're in a crock-pot on low.
But we're cooking.
Are you with me?
But the spirit of God Matter of fact, I'm going to ask everybody to bow their heads right now. I just I'm asking the Holy Spirit to really burn that image in your mind.
Holy Spirit, you are the one that orders broken places in our soul.
Where sin and trauma have fragmented parts of our personality.
Lord, I pray that faith would come alive these next 4 weeks. That people would see that it's the spirit of God that brings clarity.
That brings wholeness to the broken places in our hearts.
Some of you have gone through just painful, painful experiences.
The good news is not only can you be washed, maybe something you've done.
But you can also be empowered by the spirit of God.
Where the same spirit that hovered over the chaotic face of the earth and brought order and calm is the same spirit that indwells you as a believer.
As a matter of fact, with everybody's heads bowed and eyes closed, if you do not know Jesus, >> [clears throat] >> if you're not sure about your personal relationship with Christ, maybe you've never trusted Christ as your savior. I want to pray for you.
Whatever location that you're watching at, those that are online, those that are all the correction of facilities right now, I'm going to pray for you.
I'm not going to ask you to come forward, but I am right where you are to In just a moment, just to raise your hand and say, "Pastor, pray for me. I need Christ. I need the blood of Jesus to wash me, to cleanse me and make me new." I can't save you. Church of the King [music] can't save you. Being a part of a church is good, but it doesn't save you. Only Jesus saves.
Do you know Christ? Do you know that you know if you died today you're ready to stand before God? The count of three, with no one looking around, I'm just going to ask for a show of hand. Pastor, pray for me. I need the blood of Christ to wash me. I want to surrender my heart to Christ. I want to trust Christ and surrender to him. If that's you, at the count of three, just lift your hand up high so I can see it. 1 2 3. Quickly, hold your God bless you right there.
Anybody else? Pastor, God bless you, sir. God bless you. God bless you, sir.
God bless you, ma'am. Pastor, pray for me. I need Christ. I'm not sure. God bless you, sir.
God loves you, my friend. Anybody else?

Churches, pray. God bless you, my friend. Let's pray together. Can we pray? Come on, all of us, all of our locations. Let's pray together. Say, "Dear Jesus, I come to you today a sinner in need of a savior. Say this. Say, "Jesus, I repent of my sin. I let go of my past and I turn to you. I turn to the cross.
Say, "Jesus, wash me with your blood.
Give me a new heart, a new life, a new reason to live." I want you to say this.
Say, "Jesus, I take my life and I put it in your hands. From this day forward, I belong to you."
