Wildlife predation in domestic settings, such as snakes entering chicken coops, can be prevented through proper enclosure security measures including sealing gaps and using sturdy materials that prevent small predators from entering; when predation occurs, snakes may be unable to consume larger prey due to physical limitations, and proper wildlife management involves safely relocating predators to appropriate habitats while securing domestic enclosures to prevent future incidents.

What KILLED These Chickens?Added:
So, we just got sent a job in Morayfield and it is a juvenile red-bellied black snake in a garden bed at the front of the house. They've got small children, so they just want to get it relocated.
It's probably better for the snake as well. So, hopefully we can still get it cuz it has disappeared into the garden like 15 minutes ago. We're like 5 minutes off though. I know, yeah. Yeah, I see.
I might not actually even know All right.
It's okay.
Sorry.
Real quick. Sorry.
>> of crickets in there as well. I will give you the heads-up before I climb.
Crickets? That's okay.
Oh, yeah. See what you mean by the little cricket things? Yeah.
Now, he's probably going to come racing out, so let me know if you see him. I will stay back from this area.
>> Yeah.
If he does come that way, just stay still.
Now, I should get him before you do.
Where are you?
He's been curled in that bush about 20 minutes.
>> That one? Yeah, he's still in there now, but it he's pretty good at just sitting in there. Yeah. And then he come out, which is nice, but God, he was just a bit aggro. And when they're that little, it's not the safest to tail them without a glove because they can fling back on themselves so quickly.
Yeah. So, don't know if it would have been the best idea anyways.
So, I'm going to make a bit of a mess, but I'll clean everything up. I wouldn't stress about that.
I think he's under the roots.
Cuz they're so thick. Yeah. Yeah. Down in the middle.
Yeah, I might have to like destroy it a little bit. That's fine. Do whatever you need. Okay.
So, you don't care what I do? I don't.
Just checking.
>> Some of these are the same ones that you could just like touch and they pull out, you know? That'd be so easy.
>> of these players you can just like touch and they just come straight out, but these ones are really in there.
Oh god.
Ooh, connected. Whole loop.
That's crazy.
No snake in there?
It's like a full hollow underneath.
It's like a you know, ring road or something.
>> A ring.
No wonder he was in there.
I mean, no wonder he's in here.
Oh my god.
Where the hell has he gone?
>> [snorts] >> And that's so clear, so we'd be able to see if he shoots that way.
Yeah.
>> good.
>> [snorts] >> I would love it if he just like came out right now.
>> There it is.
Switch, switch, switch. There we go.
Right at the end, yeah.
Don't worry, I'm not going to let it go.
I'm just going to have a look at him.
Thank you so much for making that so difficult. My god.
I was almost like, wait a minute.
Yeah, of course. I'm just going to try and get him in a better spot for you.
I've got a bit of a crappy grab right now.
Yeah.
Ripping out my body corporate garden here. Pose for the camera, dude.
Oh my god.
Oh, it's a hatchy, so it's probably only a couple months old.
He's actually really chill. Why aren't you biting my glove?
You can go in here, and I'm going to clean the heck out of this. Um, do you have a green bin?
I really want to I really want to help you put all this back together. I might actually just finish No, I want to help.
I might finish ripping up Do you want me to finish ripping that off?
I feel like it looks weird just like All right. There's a hole in the log, in the log, in the hole. Don't put that in.
You're videoing. Don't put that tape over you. [Β __Β ] put that in.
Beautiful swampy area, which is exactly what red bellies like.
And it also a hollowed out tree, which is awesome as well, because it's a juvie, and they have a lot of predators. Plus, all of this coverage, so it's almost like we've hit the jackpot here. So, let's see if he would like to come out on his own.
Just going to pick the end of the bag up here. Oh.
There it is.
Exactly where I wanted him to go.
Perfect.
What a beautiful spot.
Honestly, by the end of that catch, I was kind of getting concerned because I was almost like, "Wait a minute. Did this snake actually get out of this bush without us knowing?" But of course, it was curled up in the last little patch.
Um and I also wanted to just make it clear that where I was putting the crowbar, I could see exactly where it was going. I knew I wasn't going to decapitate the snake, so I would never do that, just to make it clear.
Um but yeah, I'm super happy with that job. It was a success.
So, we're going to a job in Marumba Downs. Um it was a pretty quick phone call cuz the customers were a bit stressed, but they basically just told me that there's a snake in the chicken coop.
Um I'm not too sure if it's eaten any eggs, any chickens, or if it's just hiding out from the rain in there.
I hope it hasn't eaten any chooks, but I guess we'll find out. We'll be there in 18 minutes.
Yeah, so he's got a couple in his belly, and he's also tried to swallow a couple more, but he actually can't. So, a couple of them, I'm really sorry, a couple of them are dead.
Their bodies [snorts] are in here.
Which I can get out. I'll get him out first.
>> [snorts] >> What kind of snake is it?
It's a carpet python. It's not as poisonous?
Uh no, it's not.
I'm sorry.
Oh ho. hold.
All right. So, yeah, he's got a few in his belly.
Chicky, stay back.
Um I'm just going to put him straight in the bag cuz he's pretty stressed out.
But, yeah, he's got a few in his belly there, which you can see. I reckon that's three and then four five of those ones there.
Oh, I'm so sorry about your chickens.
>> [snorts] >> All right. So, they they can even get through those tiny holes, can they? No, it wouldn't have gotten in that hole.
Was this open? No, that was closed. It This was closed and this was closed?
Yeah.
Hi, baby.
>> did come from there.
Was the bottom one open? Yeah, bottom one was open, yeah. Oh, but it can't get up there. Yeah, I the on the on the this side they I just put the cardboard and might have slipped through there.
>> Oh, okay. It might have slipped through there. Hi. Good cats. Okay.
Um Oh, yeah, it would have got through the cardboard. Yeah. Yeah. So, it might be worth trying to put another piece up there as well.
Um But, this is all >> Oh, no, yeah. There's a big hole up here later on.
Did you just peck me?
>> [laughter] >> Oh, there is a hole there. Yeah. Okay.
So, yeah, it might be worth getting something Hi.
Getting something to fill that in and the other one as well. Small snakes can get in here, but not a snake the size that's able to swallow a chicken. Yeah.
>> So, don't worry too much about that.
Just >> [laughter] >> Just You have some food sticking underneath.
>> [laughter] >> Okay, I got It's okay. [gasps] Um so yeah, maybe just try and cover those up even if you've got a piece of timber or another piece of really thick cardboard that you can actually screw in so nothing can get in. Yeah. Um but everything else looks really good.
Do you guys have a bag?
Do you What do you want to do with your chicks?
>> handle it. Are you sure? I can put them out in the bush if you like.
>> No, we can Okay. I am sorry about your chicks.
All right, so that was a bit of a sad one. We don't like when we go to jobs like that, but someone's going to do it and at the end of the day it's reality and it's nature and it's what can happen if you don't have your chicken coop, guinea pig coop, bird enclosure um secured properly. So obviously we spoke to them about what they can do to secure it properly so it doesn't happen in the future, but they are actually rehoming their chickens just because they don't want snakes in the future.
Um but yeah, it was a bit sad that the snake had killed a couple of them and wasn't able to swallow them, but it does happen a lot. Um their eyes are a bit bigger than their their belly. Is that the same? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, their eyes are a bit bigger than their belly and they end up dropping the prey item because they actually either can't fit it in, they don't have the energy, or it's too big.
And it already swallowed three. Um so it tried another two which sucks, but um you know what? It's nature and it's a learning experience for them as well. Um so we're just going to go relocate the snake into a reserve um and I think they are going to do what they will with their pet chooks.
But yeah.
Sad.
It is really sad.
>> It's sad. There was five that survived though. Yeah, there was five that survived. They were so cute. Did we Oh, we should have got a video of them. We can insert a photo. We'll insert a photo cuz they were so cute. The urge to just like take the whole bucket home. Oh, I would love it. But anyways, um we're about to get to the release spot now.
All righty, so it's time to release this little fellow. We don't want to muck around with him too much because when they do have the food items in there, sometimes if they get stressed they can regurgitate. Um but yeah, I'm pretty sure we can count three bulges there.
Um and we found this super dense area right here in the bush, which he's already slithering right towards because it looks safe for him. So, just going to let him do his thing. Oh.
>> [laughter] >> Sorry, buddy.
I'm getting done by mozzies.
You can see it's a little bit harder for them to slither when they have those food items in there. Oh. Oh.
Nice.
Some of us gone. And she's getting eaten alive by mozzie, but see how he's struggling to move through all these little branches cuz of that food item.
>> There you go.
See you, buddy.
