I saw 20 Minutes of the New He-Man Movie! *SPOILERS*Added:
So, I just had the opportunity to see about 20 minutes of the new Masters of the Universe movie, and I want to talk about it with you guys.
So, first of all, very special thanks to Mattel and MGM Amazon uh for allowing me to come out here to Cineacon and get this very exclusive Masters of the Universe experience. We got to go over to a movie theater to see about 20 minutes of the upcoming Masters of the Universe film. We actually got to watch this little screening with the director Travis Knight as well as Nicholas Gallatine and Camila Menddees which is He-Man and Tila and the movie. So they were all there and present. We got to see a cool introduction by Travis and then he showed us about 20 minutes worth of the movie and I'm actually going to talk about it with you guys here today.
So first of all, spoilers. We are going to get into spoilers. I just want you to know I am not going to hold back. I'm going to tell you what I saw here. If you do not want this spoiled, come back to this later on. That was your warning.
We are diving into it right now.
So, the first scene that we got was from the opening of the movie. And Travis even explained before he started it that this is like a scenario where Skeletor won. This is like kind of how the movie starts is with Skeletor winning, which is what one of my predictions was. So, I'll just go ahead and put that up there on the scoreboard that I called it.
So, yes, this is a scene at Eternos where Skeletor and his troops are barging in. They are taking over the palace. Uh, He-Man is a young kid here.
He is just Prince Adam. He is young. He is scared. We see some great shots with him holding on to his mom, Queen Marina, King Randor. Uh, we get Idris Elba as man- at-arms here, who tells the king, "Don't worry, I'm going to protect you."
And then we see explosions. All of Skeletor's troops are kind of running into Eternos. And there's this incredible scene right here where like the doors burst open to this courtyard.
And you get this moment where right after all of these skeletons run in, like Skeletor is just basic henchmen.
You get like the henchmen. They come walking in. We get this shot with Beastman. We get Spyor. I mean, just them coming in and there's this moment where you're like, "Oh my god, it just they look like the toys just kind of bursting in here on scene and it's incredible."
So, as all these skeletons are like attacking Eternos Palace, we get some reveals of some of our heroic warriors.
Uh, Ramman comes bouncing in and does like a full-on head dive, like ramming into the crowd and knocks them ALL OVER.
LIKE FULL-ON RAMMAN, like Filmation Ramman style. It's amazing. Then, Mecca comes out, who just looks like a walking action figure, by the way. He's so bright and he's so colorful. He walks in, the neck extends, and then he starts whipping his head around, whipping the neck around to knock over soldiers, and then we get the fisto reveal where like it pans down and you see the big fist and he walks right up and he punches a guy. It's in the trailer, but he gives the guy the punch and he goes flying.
It's like gosh dang, man. It's just it's action figures come to life right here.
So when they show up, that's essentially when Man-at-Arms is like, "Come on, we've got to go." And he grabs Randor and Marina and the family and they are running away. This is also a moment where we get this really cool uh this this really cool moment with young Tila cuz she is there as well. Tie as a kid and she is also scared and she says as such to men at arms, her father, she says, "Dad, I'm scared." And he says, he kneels down to her and he says, "Hey, who taught you that? Don't you worry.
we're going to get through this. Like I thought it was just a really cool moment here that like gives you that great fatherly relationship that Man-at-Arms that Duncan has with Tila. I thought that was really It's a really quick moment, but it's perfect. It's perfect.
So, you go into this next scene where there's this corridor and Man-at-Arms is leading Randor and everybody. And then in this moment, there's just all of these random Skeletor Skeletonites running through there. And Duncan just takes care of him. Like this is an amazing moment. Like he he's got a blaster. At one point he like a sword comes out of his armor and he's fighting him with a sword. Like he is full on the man at arms here. It is incredible. So he takes out all of these troops and as soon as he does that, he's standing there triumphant over all of these beaten soldiers. And at the end of the hallway, who rounds the corner but trap jaw. Man-at-arms looks back at Randor and he says, "Go. I've got this." And Randor and the queen and young Adam run away and we get this amazing face-to-face confrontation with Man-at-Arms and Trap Jaw. And guys, let me tell you, the action is incredible in this part. Idris Elba just these action scenes are incredible. This fight with Trap Jaw is amazing. Like we see Trap Jaw change his mechanical arm to a hook, to a sword, to a cannon. I mean, it is unbelievable. Man-at-arms pulls out the classic Man-at-Arms mace for this fight.
I mean, we get this amazing back and forth between the two. And just as Man-at-Arms looks like he's victorious, like he even stands over him and he says, "I'm the man at arms." It's amazing. And then Trap Jaw surprises him by turning his arm into a cannon, holding it to his chest, and just says, "Well, you've lost." And then that's where the scene ended.
Dude, guys, you have goosebumps. I mean, like this whole sequence was absolutely incredible. Um, it just like the the seeing how skillful Duncan is and why he's the man at arms and doing his job of protecting the king and the queen, protecting the royal family from Skeletor and his henchmen. It just it felt so He-Man and I'm going to be saying that multiple times. So this goes we cut into the next scene and the next scene um is with King Randor and Marina and Prince Adam surrounded by skele skeletonites kind of on that courtyard with the big statues that we've seen in the trailer. And this is where King Randor really shows that he's got some fight in him cuz he starts fighting with all of the Skeleites and he's winning. I mean like King Randor is fighting with all of these Skeleonites. It's amazing.
But then enters Skeletor.
Um, this is amazing. So, um, you know, Randor is now held captive by, uh, Skeletor's henchmen, like Spyor is there and Car is there. It is 100% Car. I know there's been some speculation, but Car is there. Um, you know, and they're holding Randor and Skeletor comes in and we get a full-on Skeletor monologue. And it's good, guys. I just I am I'm really pleased with what we're seeing with Skeletor here. I was so impressed by the way his face moves because even though it's like a CG bone face, you still have expression when he's talking. A little bit of that expression really comes through. Jared Leto's voice, we've got a little bit of it in the trailer. It definitely has It's been described as like Shakespearean and I can see that.
It definitely reminds me a bit of Langella as well. I like it. I like what he's doing with Skeletor. Um, but what's even great greater is that like this is a moment where we get like some Skeletor laughs, which is incredible. He calls Evil Lynn in in this moment. Like he full on does LIKE THE EVIL LYNN AND then she comes in all Yes, Skeletor. I mean, it's Oh my, she sounds like Evil Lynn when she walks in. He takes the crown off of King Randor's head and he puts it on his own head and he just starts cackling like he he throws his fist up to the sky and he starts cackling like Skeletor. And then this is one of those like there's going to be some silly stuff in this movie too which I think is I mean it's it's a He-Man movie. You got to have a little bit of fun with it. So Skeletor goes fullon maniacal laugh here. Randor's crown on his head, holding his fist up to the sky, laughing, and all of the evil warriors are just kind of standing around him just like watching it happen, looking at each other like they're not so sure of what they should be doing. And then Skeletor gets mad at them for it. He says, "WHAT? THAT'S THAT'S THE CRESCENDO. THAT'S WHERE WE'RE SUPPOSED TO LAUGH." LIKE HE KIND OF DOES THAT AND they're all like, "Sorry, sorry, Skeletor." It's It's pretty funny, BUT IT FEELS LIKE Skeletor and it it doesn't take away from like the scene. Like the scene is still such uh like an impactful scene here, which is really really cool.
So, I I just I loved all of this. This was all from the It's supposed to be from the beginning of the movie. So, we see a lot of this attack on Eternia right at the beginning of the movie. Um which was man, I just I knew it. I knew this was the direction we were taking.
So, the next scene we see cuts to later on where it's a bit of the Earth piece um where Prince Adam is in the back of a cop car because he was stealing that sword, which we saw in the trailer and like the cops are kind of making jokes at him for having a sword or whatever.
And this on the radio, which kind of becomes the soundtrack in this moment, is uh what's going on by four non-blondes. So, you got to have the what's going on is thrown in there. I I started laughing. Everybody in this screening started laughing when they realized what the song was here. And I've talked about this before, but there's like a whole generation who was introduced to He-Man through the what's going on meme. So, I feel like it definitely had to be here somewhere. I think this was a good scene for it to be here in cuz we're on Earth. It's kind of music that's playing on the radio. So, we got it in the movie. But, this is the moment where Beastman shows up cuz he's coming for the power sword or he's coming for Adam. They know that Adam is here now. So Beastman is showing up and then we get this scene where Beastman is chasing He-Man. Like Beastman breaks the cop car. He-Man's running down the the freeway with all the traffic backed up.
Beastman's hopping around and then Tila shows up and Tila and Beastman have a fight and Tila is victorious and she turns around and she looks at Adam and she goes, "Adam?" And Adam looks confused and then she goes, "You don't remember me?" and he goes, "Tila." And then she says, "You ready to go home?"
And that was the end of that scene. Um, it was awesome. It was just awesome getting to see Tila come in and do some warrior goddess stuff fighting with Beastman. Um, but this was also really cool cuz we get to see the moment like Tila is remembered by Adam. He remembered her. So, Adam remembers all this stuff. And I think that's part of the the plot we've seen from the trailers is that he he remembers everything from Eternia, but he's on Earth. And obviously people think he's crazy, but he knows he needs to get back there. He knows that Sword is special. I think we're going to get some stuff with Sorceress reaching out to him. And I'm going to I'm because of this next scene that we're about to go into. So, the next scene we got is Adam back on Eternia with Tila with Duncan who is very disheveled. He's not in his man-in- arms gear at this point.
Um, they are hiding and at the end of this bridge is Trap Jaw with a bunch of troops and and Adam sees him and he goes, "Trap Jaw?" And then Tila goes, "Trap Jaw?" and he goes, "Yeah, yeah, he's he's from one of my doodles." So, that's kind of funny. Like, apparently Adam in his remembering all these characters from the world he knows he's from, he named them, so he came up with the name Trap Jaw.
I MEAN, I guess it's a fun way to explain why their names are so silly. I thought it was kind of fun. So, then Adam says, "Let me go see if I can talk to him." This is actually what I do back on Earth. He like references being an HR person and he thinks he can talk Trap Jaw down. He wants to talk him through it. And Teal and Duncan are both like, "What? No. What are you talking about?"
So then we get the scene where Adam approaches Trap Jaw and tries to have a conversation with him. Trap Jaw's not having it. Trap Jaw immediately starts fighting with Adam. Adam cannot hold his own against Trap Jaw. And in that moment, Tila even yells, "You've got a sword on your back. Use your sword." And when he reaches and he grabs the sword, this vision happens like you suck into his eyeball and the sorceress is there.
And she goes, "Say the words." And it comes back out and he stops and he looks a little confused. And then he grabs the sword again and it kind of sparks and he looks at the sword and he goes, "By the" and then it goes, it shows the sorceress again and she says, "By the power of Grey Skull." And then he grabs the sword and this is our first transformation sequence. He fullon yells, "By the power of Grey Skull, a lightning bolt strikes down in front of everybody." Like, this just happens in front of Trap Jaw, in front of everybody. Lightning bolt strikes down. This is the scene from the trailer where He-Man raises up cuz it's the first transformation, so it's a lot more elaborate.
It reminds me of the transformation sequences in the 200X series later on where they actually showed him growing.
That's what happens here. like he kind of floats up in the air and you see muscles grow on him. You see the power harness strap onto him and then he lands back on the ground and does the I have the power and the spirit of gray skull is behind. Guys, it's incredible. It is. It is. God, I'm getting emotional thinking about it, but sitting in the theater, I was like my heart was beating through my chest. It was incredible. And then like there's even some silly things here like he looks down and he sees his abs and he's kind of like whoa. Like I'm look at how strong I am muscular I am now. But then he fights Trap Jaw and we get to see like He-Man's strength. Like Trap Jaw tries to like throw a punch and he catches it and like he catches the the claw and then we have this full-on fight where he just wrecks Trap Jaw. Um, he rips Trap Jaw's arm off, the mechanical arm.
It's It is so awesome seeing He-Man fight like this. I mean, it was amazing.
It was It was He-Man.
So, that was the last full scene that we saw. Then, it kind of just showed like this little sizzle reel at the end. Uh whereas a lot of the stuff from the most recent trailer but fleshed out a little bit like Adam talking to everybody in the prison saying who he is. Like Mechaneck even chimes up and says, "I thought Prince Adam was dead. Who is this?" And you know Duncan is kind of backing him up like this is the prince.
This is him. He's here. He's going to help us. And then we get a lot of just kind of sizzle real stuff showing a lot of the same stuff we saw from that last trailer. Guys, this feels good. I'm just gonna say that it feels real good. Um, if if the whole movie has the energy of what I just witnessed here, this is going to be exactly what we've been wanting. In my opinion, I I think this movie is going to do an amazing job of walking the line that it needs to walk where it's going to be something that old fans get excited about and appreciate, but it's going to be something that casuals are also going to enjoy. And that is so important. We need that with this movie cuz this movie needs to do good. We need this movie to be huge. And I think they've done an amazing job of doing doing it right, doing the fan service stuff, but also making this approachable from everybody.
The action scenes are incredible. It feels like it's got a lot of heart. It's definitely going to have some laughs in it, but it's He-Man, and I think that that's important. I mean, it's got to be a little goofy. All these weirdos in the movie, we got to have some fun with it.
But I am thrilled with what I've seen here today and I cannot wait to see this whole movie.
Uh after afterwards, we actually got to mingle a little bit in the lobby uh with Travis Knight. I never got a chance to go meet Nicholas. He was surrounded and doing a lot of interviews. Uh but I did get to meet Camila. Um I totally geeked out with her. I brought my um childhood He-Man with me. I've been doing that lately just for these experiences. And she was so nice. She thought it was so cool. She took a picture with me holding my childhood He-Man. Um, this was an amazing experience. But more importantly, I I feel really really good about this film. I am so so excited to see the whole thing come together. And I hope I hope it's amazing. Like I said, if it's got the energy of what I saw today, I think this is going to be exactly what we were hoping for.
Now that I've spoiled so much for you guys, thank you guys so much for watching. Thanks again to the folks over at Amazon MGM and Mattel for bringing me out here to Cineacon so that I can have this experience and share this with everybody else. Stay tuned uh because we'll definitely keep talking about this. As long as there's as long as there's new stuff to talk about with this movie, I'll be
