Storms continue - Tuesday night forecast

[00:00:00]Well, it sounds quiet now, but earlier we heard that rain pounding on our roof >> Coming down hard, yeah.

[00:00:06]>> Ended up with just shy of a quarter of an inch of rain at the airport, but hey, it was sure a nice sight to see some of the moisture coming down. The wind was whipping, gusts up to almost 60 miles an hour and quite a bit of lightning. This one from Lisa Christiansen capturing the thunderstorm from her vantage point.

[00:00:23]And we have other areas that saw even more rainfall. So, some were reporting closer to just over 3/10 of an inch of precipitation. Let me see if the weather computer is hung up here for just a moment. There it goes. As far as temperature-wise today, we did hit 99°.

[00:00:39]Average is 95. Our overnight low 10° above normal. Temperatures really came down nicely after some of the showers rolled through the Wasatch Front. So, we hit 100 in Vernal today, just hot.

[00:00:50]Hoping for some rain to move in or continue to move in overnight. Moab hit 100. We're sitting at 85 in Vernal now.

[00:00:57]Moab at 77. Some nice wetting rains moved through there today as well. 83 in Milford and 82 in Provo right now. So, moisture is kind of a wash, rinse, repeat weather pattern for what we've been seeing over the last several days.

[00:01:09]Moisture rotating around a ridge of high pressure. It's got tropical origins where it's being swept up from the Gulf of Mexico. That's what monsoonal moisture is and we'll see more shower impacts as we get into tomorrow. Still seeing that shower or that thunder cell move through at least portions of Davis County headed towards Weber County. It's losing its umph as it moves farther north. So, we're not expecting as strong of winds or as much precipitation as it continues to track farther north. And we're still seeing pockets of shower activity across central and southern Utah. We've been watching of close watching closely the Cottonwood fire burn scar just east of Beaver. We've seen some shower activity in that area.

[00:01:50]We're expecting this moisture that's moving through central Utah now to head that direction into the overnight hours.

[00:01:56]So, we'll continue to see impacts into Wednesday morning. That moisture will also sweep into northern Utah in conjunction with a storm passing to the northwest of us. A westerly flow should help usher moisture out of here as we get into Thursday. Models are almost picking up on a little bit of lake-enhanced precipitation.

[00:02:14]It's typically something we see in wintertime. But either way, we'll have a chance of some scattered flash flooding again tomorrow. The yellows indicate slight chances. So, keep your eye to the sky or don't put your guard down just yet. We do have another active day in store tomorrow with our mountain areas of course having the most significant threat, but those storms could move into the adjacent valleys. 92 for the high in Salt Lake tomorrow. 91 Kanab, 102 again in St. George. So, average high temperatures.

[00:02:40]It's hot. And then we're cranking up the dial a little bit more into Pioneer Day weekend. In fact, getting very hot to over the weekend with 106 to 108 Saturday through Monday.

[00:02:50]Temperatures still 105 on Tuesday for the Wasatch Front. Showers and thunderstorms tomorrow. We hold on to a small threat on Thursday. Slight chance Friday, but we get very hot again 99 if not 100 all the way through next Tuesday with maybe a stray isolated storm.
