Heat lingers with smoky skies

[00:00:06]Meteorologist Scott Elnes here. It's some interesting times ahead. Managed to make triple digits yesterday, quite hot yesterday, well above average. Today, we're still going to be bringing the heat, but the thing I'm keeping an eye on is we have a fire weather watch.

[00:00:18]That's going to fire up on tomorrow, and that's going to be in our area into Lake County and into Klamath County. There's a reason for it. We'll talk about that here in a second. But, we also have an air pollution advisory through at least 2:00 p.m. tomorrow as this smoke is going to continue to be a bit of an issue. Now, this smoke forecast a surface smoke forecast, so it's a little bit deceptive because we still got smoke in the higher atmospheres, but on paper it looks like we're going to stay relatively clear, but that is going to be mainly towards the surface. I think it's really not going to have a big impact on our air quality. In fact, there's your projection for today. We roll it into tomorrow. It actually gets a little bit worse tomorrow.

[00:00:52]Tomorrow's going to be a day I really want to ask you to just be extra careful out there because we do have some very dangerous conditions that are rolling in.

[00:00:59]Right now, what's happening around our area doesn't look that bad, but we've got not only some monsoonal moisture that's kind of pushing if you see it that rotation there, but we also have a remnant of a tropical storm that's going to be pushing up the West Coast, and that is going to be adding fuel to the fire literally, basically.

[00:01:17]Some 70s out there to start your day tomorrow. But, let's talk or just start out today, excuse me. We got a lot of weather to cover here. So, here we go.

[00:01:25]What to expect. That tropical storm Alida is going to be making its impacts known particularly tomorrow. That fire weather watch is well earned for us. And on the other side of it, so it's going to be dry when it rolls through. On the other side, we get some moisture, which could in some ways help, but it also increases the chance for thunderstorms.

[00:01:41]So, there it is. It's kind of pushing up the coast, and that is going to be it's going to be mainly Wednesday when we feel the impacts, and then it kind of continues up further north.

[00:01:49]So, today or tomorrow's going to be the day we're going to really want to be vigilant. Today, the wind's not too bad.

[00:01:55]Sure, yeah, it's some 20-25s and and around the fire area could still be gusty, but it's tomorrow. Look how that just lights up. Now, I actually think that a big The breezes will be mainly in towards Ashland, not as much into Medford. So, we might dodge a little bit of a bullet, but Mother Nature is not a warning or a forecast model. So, these winds are going to get substantial tomorrow. Here's your futurecast putting it into motion. 7:00, uh partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies. And it's going to stay that way through most of the day getting into the mid to upper 90s expected for you. Uh it's tomorrow, like I said, it's where you get some of this monsoonal moisture. We pop up the potential for some thunderstorms.

[00:02:29]Looking like they'll stay light at this point, but some of them could be in the form of dry lightning. Here we go. Let's summarize. Mid to mid 90s, we'll call it for our area, and then some 60s and 70s to start off your day.

[00:02:41]Northern California faring halfway decent, but the air quality is still going to be an issue for you. But, look at these temperatures, nice and stable at least. The mountains could see a little thunderstorm popping up on Wednesday. That's that part of that whole uh combination of factors. The coast has a marine layer we just can't seem to shake. Some areas are socked into clouds, other areas are nice and sunny. And we'll get into those diurnal days where you get the clouds in the morning and the sun in the afternoon.

[00:03:05]Klamath Basin going to fare fairly well.

[00:03:06]Again, watch out tomorrow. It's going to be a substantial day for us, not only into Klamath County, but into Rogue Valley, into Lake County as well.

[00:03:15]So, today we're going to be right near the triple digits. Tomorrow, triple digits with breezy conditions, folks.

[00:03:21]Then we roll in that moisture with potential for some thunderstorms, but then we're going to normalize. We'll start to see some 90s as we roll into the weekend.
