Guinea Pigs FOUND IN DIRT HOLE in the Ground!

[00:00:01]I don't know much at all about guinea pigs, but I'm pretty sure they don't belong out in a hole with a makeshift cover in the ground on the side of a highway exit ramp.

[00:00:11]So, that's the message that Valerie at the Southern California Guinea Pig Rescue received. And there's a lot of confusion, convoluted messages, potential lies, but this is it. This is the hole where a bunch of guinea pigs were apparently dumped and living for God only knows how long. And here they are. By some miracle, we were able to save 11 of them. 10 girls. These are the 10 girls and one boy who we will see later.

[00:00:46]And thankfully Saskia at the LA guinea pig rescue said that she could take them all. So, I am in route to the LA guinea pig rescue to set these girls up. They are filthy, dirty, they are stinky, and they need a bath. They need health checks. And most importantly, they need a safe place.

[00:01:10]Safe place to decompress and to heal and recover. They are underweight. They are filthy and they're scared. So, let's get to the rescue. And thank you guys for coming along.

[00:01:24]So, I just got here and I have a car full of piggies. They're They're pretty scared. But look at this.

[00:01:34]>> One's three are on top and a bunch are on the bottom. And oh, this is the one I saw with the eye issue.

[00:01:42]Oh, it looks like a sunken eye. This could be from dehydration or it could be an injury. It's It's the most ridiculous story you've ever heard.

[00:01:55]So, I'm going to be setting up some baskets here for these piggies.

[00:02:08]>> Okay, I got these three. I'm going to give these bath and dry. Okay.

[00:02:12]>> Can do these two at a time so that they have a friend.

[00:02:15]>> They're all going to have to get bathed, right? Are they >> They're all filthy. Yeah. Okay.

[00:02:21]>> I coordinated with Andrew about health checks and baths and it's just time to get these girls set up and in a good place.

[00:02:31]>> Very good. Very good.

[00:02:32]>> Thank you. So, here's what we're looking at. I've just split them into two by now for now uh in these little holding baskets. Um, but here's what's cool is, uh, they're going to end up going in this big enclosure here. So, we're going to get to keep them together.

[00:02:56]So, Saskia was looking at them and she doesn't seem to see any legs. They're filthy.

[00:03:03]>> Oh, she's pregnant.

[00:03:05]>> Yeah.

[00:03:06]>> Yeah, she's pregnant. like pregnant.

[00:03:13]>> Let me see that one.

[00:03:15]>> Um, so I've got >> the beauty. Look how dirty that is.

[00:03:21]>> Unbelievable. Don't see any lies. And she is she's definitely prego. You can you see it best if we turn them over and then let them stand like this.

[00:03:34]But it's easier to see if they have no if they have smooth hair though. But yeah, I can tell. I can probably even feel the babies in here. Okay, mommy.

[00:04:04]>> Yeah. Remember this is where they were living. M >> awful. One of them has a sunken eye that's kind of white.

[00:04:12]>> Yes. Maybe from fighting and biting.

[00:04:15]>> Yeah. And dehydration cuz basically they had no access to water and then every once in a while like some watermelon or some fruit would be thrown in the hole.

[00:04:26]>> So there's only 10. There's 10.

[00:05:23]>> He gets sliced. Yeah, I get sliced, too, sometimes. But if I That's why I hold them like this.

[00:05:43]>> Oh my goodness. This one is so filthy.

[00:05:46]>> Yeah.

[00:05:47]>> This is unbelievably filthy.

[00:05:49]>> Yeah.

[00:05:50]>> I want to see that bath water.

[00:05:52]>> Yeah.

[00:05:54]>> I know. I probably shouldn't do this, but >> it's weird. It's >> Yeah. Not great.

[00:06:02]>> So, we're going to give them more baths and then do their nails and stuff. I think bath starting bath bath first.

[00:06:09]>> Yeah.

[00:06:10]>> Okay.

[00:06:11]>> Nail house.

[00:06:14]>> All in all, they're not in a bad shape other than >> they need better nutrition.

[00:06:20]>> Yeah. Yeah.

[00:06:22]>> And bathing.

[00:06:23]>> And hopefully that'll prove that there's no actual active lice or anything.

[00:06:28]>> Check. Yeah. Double check if there's any lice. Yeah, >> because they can hide.

[00:06:33]>> Yeah.

[00:06:33]>> Really, really well. You got to look really good.

[00:06:36]>> Yeah.

[00:06:37]>> Thankfully, we have Pat and Pam that are here and they do a lot of bathing for us. They are expert guinea pig bthers.

[00:06:48]It's bath time for these babies.

[00:06:53]So, this one feels like she could be pregnant.

[00:06:57]Um, so, oh, and this is the one that has an eye injury. I'll have Saskia take a closer look with this one. What you can see is that there is an eye. It's just sunken. And then you see that. So, this is the eye, but it goes like this, which is really strange.

[00:07:19]Okay. So, because I need because we're going to soap them.

[00:07:25]Sorry about the noise. The neighbors across the street are they're weed whacking. Normally when you hear a weed whacker uh off in the distance it sounds like honk honk. What is this? Oh what?

[00:07:39]What? I did nothing. See this is WHY YOU'RE NOT A BUT THAT'S AN actual weed whacker.

[00:07:46]So I'm bathing them together because I want to soak them. And we're going to be using the My Connazol shampoo.

[00:07:59]So, I like to put a whole bunch. I'm going to put some on them and then I'm going to let them soak in that water.

[00:08:07]And it's very important that you let it go for a few minutes and then we can see how gross this water ends up being. It's just the dirt is just coming off of them in clouds and it's just like crazy like how uh dirty it's like mud cuz they were like literally in a mud hole. In fact, they are so filthy that I don't even want them to soak. I'm going to look at that.

[00:08:34]You can just see how the dirt is still just running off of them. I'm just going to dump out this water. I'm just going to put new water and I'm just going to rinse them off a couple times before they actually get their soap. Look at that. It just they are filthy.

[00:08:57]All right. You want to help uh liberate these >> these piggies? Andrew is going to help us liberate.

[00:09:08]All right. So, yeah, there we go. One, two, three, four, five. What?

[00:09:32]>> Right. This is a lot of piggies. They're little and it's better than the hole in the ground that they were in. Right now, they just need to decompress and realize that they're safe. Um, did they just devour all that lettuce?

[00:09:47]>> Uh, >> yeah, it's all gone. So maybe we'll I'll give them another handful of veggies because they were so patient and they have had a long crazy like like really a little bit more than 24 hours ago they were like in a hole in the ground under a freeway in a homeless encampment.

[00:10:14]>> Beats that.

[00:10:15]>> Yeah. It's like the Beverly Hillbilly story. All right, let's get him some lettuce. Look at you guys. How do you know what that is? Look at that. I have a captive audience. You know, I never feel more popular than when I've got the bucket. No, you guys already ate. These ones didn't.

[00:10:38]>> Let's see.

[00:10:44]Yeah, we could call them the 405 pit.

[00:10:47]So, they came off of a hole in the ground, a dirt pit off of the 405 under a freeway. So, I tentatively we're going to call them the 405 pit piggies. It's not that elegant, but it's accurate.

[00:11:04]They're going to take a muchdeserved break.

And I also want to say special thank you to Valerie who housed them overnight and helped really coordinate these uh this rescue with the people involved that found them. And uh to Rosie and Michelle who went out there to try to um figure out what was going on. So uh stay tuned. I'm sure this is not the end of this saga, but for for now, uh we've got these 10 girls. Uh we're going to do a whole special video about the boy, the single boy that was rescued from this group. Uh he's amazing and I can't wait to share his story.
