Day 11- Rule of 5 Neurology Series | Status epilepticus #ruleof5neurology #statusepilepticusAjouté :
This day 11 of my rule of five minute series. Today we will discuss when seizure is an emergency status epilepticus.
First point, if any seizure which is lasting for more than five minute continuously, this is called as a status epilepticus.
Second point, if there is a no gain of consciousness in between two episodes of seizure, no gain of consciousness, then this is a status epilepticus.
Third point, if there is a persistent altered sensorium, altered mental status after the episode of seizure, this is an emergency. Fourth point, if there is a autonomic instability like hypoxia, hypertension, tachycardia, tachypnea, so these all are the feature of seizure.
Fifth point, if these all are present, then seizure is an emergency and first drug of choice for seizure is diazepam, lorazepam, or midazolam. So, this is the rule of five for diagnosing the status epilepticus which is a seizure emergency. Thank you.
