Now let me share with you a simple [music] simple technique.
It is very simple for those who cannot meditate more than a matter of seconds, more than a matter of moments, and cannot dramatize anything, who cannot enter and participate in an imaginal scene.
This works like a charm.
You sit quietly, [music] close your eyes, and turn your attention from the outside into your skull.
In a little while, with [music] practice, it may not come the first day, but I do not think it will take too long >> [music] >> before suddenly your skull and all the dark convolutions of the brain begin to grow luminous.
And you will see golden liquid clouds forming all over your head.
And while in this state, think of anyone in this world.
But think of them with empathy, [music] not sympathy.
For sympathy accepts the condition as final.
Bring them into your mind's eye and rejoice with them because of their good fortune.
Learn to rejoice as though it were already true.
Sympathizing is the acceptance of their lack, whatever it is.
If they're unwell and you feel sorry for them, you only reinforce what they seem to be to you.
If they are in need and you sympathize, you are simply accepting that limitation >> [music] >> and making it all the more real in your world.
A woman would nightly worry about her son. She called it love.
Yet she continually accepted him as one in danger.
And because she accepted it, she continued to meet it.
But the moment she rejoiced in him as secure and protected, she encountered a different son.
For you cannot persist in the joy of another without changing the state occupied by yourself.
What you inwardly accept as true of another, you are accepting within yourself.
For the world reflects the state you occupy.
There are no others, for the world is your self pushed out.
When you rejoice in another's fulfillment, you are moving yourself into the state where such fulfillment exists.
Through empathy, bring to pass whatever would give you joy concerning them.
Empathize.
Try it.
Sitting in a quiet, simple way, not bursting one blood vessel, not making any physical effort to do anything, simply losing yourself in the joy of the other's good fortune.
Test it.
But always do it in empathy.
If you do it in empathy, you are doing it in love.
You cannot empathize with another and not be in love. You cannot do it.
When you retire, change your identity.
Do not take the same man into sleep night after night.
Take with [music] you into sleep a new concept of self.
Feel what it would be like were things as they ought to be, and then carry that consciousness with you into sleep.
To go back to that simple little technique, sit in the silence and let the dark convolutions of the brain burst into light. [music] This pulsing golden liquid light.
And while you observe it, the very vision is a thrill. [music] Then, in that state, think of someone and empathize.
Feel the joy that is their joy because things are as they ought to be for them.
Bathe them in it, as it were.
This is a very easy thing, and not only easy, it is not tiring at all.
There is no effort in this technique, none whatsoever.
So, tonight, do not sympathize with limitation.
Do not accept the evidence of the senses.
Empathize with fulfillment.
And sleep as the man who has already accepted the blessing as true.
