Days Of Rain Continue To Plague The South With Growing Flash Flood Risks For Millions

[00:00:09]Look at that. Imagine trying to drive through that, right? This was actually captured by our very own Fox Weather meteorologist Stephen Morgan yesterday while driving down in Galveston, Texas.

[00:00:19]He was stuck in the spin cycle there.

[00:00:21]He's no stranger to this. He used to work in that market. He's headed that way for our beach house that will be taking place on Memorial Day tomorrow.

[00:00:28]And yeah, strong storms have been pounding the southern US all weekend long making it soggy and sloppy. And boy, oh boy, flash flooding and damaging winds are possible across eastern Texas and right through Louisiana and the rest of the Gulf Coast. So, we've got those elevated uh severe weather risks. And look at some of these numbers that we're seeing coming in and these rainfall totals across the South. Texas, Alabama, and Mississippi really getting the brunt of it anywhere from over 7 and 1/2 inches of rain. And that's since Tuesday. And that's at the bottom of the list. Then you get all the way up to about 10 and 3/4 of an inch there in Mimbs, Texas.

[00:01:10]will certainly do a number on the water table in any region across the nation. And of course, in Texas, flooding is going to be a concern through today. But then again, into tomorrow, certainly. That's where we have the biggest two out of five flash flood threat. And we'll keep that going into Tuesday and even into Wednesday, as well. So, even beyond this Memorial Day weekend, things are going to stay soggy and wet and wild. We've had a bit of a bull's-eye right over here in the Mobile, Alabama region lately. But that whole stretch from New Orleans right through Mobile and points to the north and east have received a lot of rain.

[00:01:49]And actually, at this time yesterday, Houston was getting clobbered as well.

[00:01:53]As a matter of fact, Michael Estime was doing a great job covering that. Look at this. Bellaire reporting reports of street flooding and vehicles stranded in that region. There's just a ton of moisture and water vapor in the region and that's actually leading to, surprise, surprise, more heavy rain and some storms moving right into Mobile, Alabama right now. We have a flash flood warning in place for Jackson, Mississippi going through the next hour and we're going to keep our eyes on this. This is a special marine warning and I want to draw your eye to this.

[00:02:23]It's tagged with a waterspout possibility. So, from Pensacola to Destin to maybe Panama City Beach, we'll watch as that possibly could fire up some waterspouts that may make their way onshore.
