Two dead, gunman in custody after Las Vegas grocery store shooting

[00:00:04]We begin with breaking news in the South Valley where Metro Police say two people are dead following a shooting inside of a grocery store. This happened just before 11:30 near Maryland Parkway and Silverado Ranch. Fox 5's Carlos Salinas joins us live with what we know so far.

[00:00:20]Yeah, information is limited at this time, but here's what we do know. Now, according to our sources, a shooting happened inside the Smith's here on South Maryland Parkway. Now, police did locate two victims with apparent gunshot wounds, and they later confirmed to us that those victims were pronounced dead.

[00:00:38]Now, we actually learned from witnesses that it was actually customers who held down the shooter. Now, a suspect has been taken into custody, and there's no outstanding threat to the public at this time. But, as you can see, we're seeing a very active scene right now. We're staying just behind this police tape right here. But, you can see just about 10 police units out here. And earlier, we saw this larger crime scene unit come over. Now, the homicide section is responding and will be taking over this investigation. But, like I said, information is limited at this time. So, as we learn more, we'll bring you guys an update. [00:01:25]>> [snorts] >> Metro Police are searching for the person who shot and killed an elderly woman during an early morning walk.

[00:01:31]Metro Police say two women were approached by an armed man around 5:45 this morning near Flamingo and El Capitan Way. They say the man tried to rob the women and eventually shot one of them, then ran away. The man is only described as to be wearing dark clothing. Police believe this was an isolated incident, and there's no threat to the public at this time.

[00:01:52]And police are also still searching for a hit-and-run driver who hit a man while walking his dog two weeks ago and this afternoon we have learned that man has died. It happened on May 2nd at the intersection of Charleston and Mojave at 3:00 in the morning. Metro police say the victim was walking against the traffic light. The suspect drove off and has not been caught. The car involved in the crash was later found. And if you know anything that can help police on these two incidents, you are urged to call Crime Stoppers at the number on your screen.

[00:02:23]Also breaking today, another sports team could be coming to the valley. Sources say that the professional women's hockey league is expanding to Las Vegas. An official announcement is expected to come tomorrow at T-Mobile Arena. Though it's still unclear where the team will play. Unlike most pro leagues, the PWHl is owned and operated by On Singular Group, the Mark Walter Group, which also owns the Los Angeles Dodgers and LA Lakers. The move comes as the league is looking to expand to 12 teams. Detroit was announced last week. Vegas would become the 10th team. Hamilton, Ontario and San Jose are the two other likely markets.
