Campus littering primarily occurs at lunch tables and eating areas because students become distracted by social interactions and often fail to dispose of their trash properly. The main causes include student distraction, perceived laziness, and lack of awareness about environmental responsibility. Effective solutions include placing trash cans closer to eating areas, implementing supervisor monitoring, and creating reward systems for clean grades to incentivize proper waste disposal.

>> To win off the news for today, let's take a look at a video CTE video students put together about campus pollution and trash waste.
>> What's your name?
>> My name is Ella.
>> Uh, how often do you notice litter around the school campus? I feel like I see trash almost every day I come to school.
>> Uh, why do you think students choose to litter instead of using trash cans?
>> I feel like usually they just get distracted like talking to their friends and they'll just leave it because they don't think it's a big deal.
>> Uh, what areas of the school tend to have the most litter. And why do you think that is?
>> Uh, usually like the lunch tables because no one like picks up their lunch containers after they eat.
>> Uh, do you think the school does enough to prevent littering? Why or why not?
>> I think so because usually they have someone watching everybody like to make sure they pick up the trash and there's like trash cans everywhere.
>> Mhm. Uh what solutions or changes do you think would help reduce littering at school?
>> Um maybe like a supervisor to like watch everyone pick up their trash.
>> Thank you.
>> What's your name?
>> Dave.
>> Uh how often do you notice litter around the school campus? Um, mostly on the lunch tables, but sometimes people throw them away.
>> Uh, why do you think students choose to litter instead of using trash cans like they're supposed to?
>> Uh, some of them are just lazy. I don't know.
>> Good answer. What areas of the school tend to have the most litter? And why do you think this is?
>> Uh, mostly the lunch tables uh in the freshman quad because people are just lazy to pick them up.
>> Uh, do you think the school does enough to prevent littering? Why or why not?
Um, I think a schooled is enough because some of the counselors come around and try to get people to pick up the trash.
>> Uh, what solutions or changes do you think would help reduce littering at school?
>> Uh, maybe like maybe I don't even know, maybe pick make the trash cans closer.
>> Okay. Who am I here with?
>> Satie Goldberg.
>> How often do you notice litter around the school campus?
I see litter like all the time, especially after breaks and lunch.
People just leave it on the tables and they don't pick up pick up after themselves.
>> Uh why do you think students choose to litter instead of using trash cans?
>> Um I think they don't understand the importance of it and how it can make our school like messier and I think they're also just lazy and they just don't want to take the time and effort to go and walk to the trash can.
>> What areas of school tend to have the most litter and why? Um, I'd say all like the red tables and just just tables in general because that's where people are eating and leaving their like eating after just eating.
>> Uh, do you think the school does enough to prevent littering? Why or why not?
>> Um, I think they do like a decent job because like their staff going around telling students, reminding them to throw their trash away, but I also think we can do a better job just reminding students and also like having rewards for like the cleanest like grade or something.
Uh, what solutions or changes do you think would help reduce littering at school?
>> Oh, yeah. As I mentioned, just having the like cleaner, like the cleanest grade get some like prize or just like some type of reward for just cleaning tables and then yeah, that's kind of my solution.
>> All right, thank you.
>> Well, that's it for today, Panthers.
>> We'll see you all on Friday. And as always, BTV out.
