In space mission design, there is a fundamental trade-off between cost and capability: a $4,000 rocket can reach its destination faster and is more affordable, while a $1,000,000 rocket offers greater mission capability through modular design (serving as both a Mun lander and Minmus base with rovers and satellites), though it requires more complex assembly and fuel management.

$4,000 vs $1,000,000 Mun LanderAdded:
This is a million-dollar rocket, and this is a $4,000 rocket. Both of these rockets have a common goal: land on the Mun and return home. It's time to find out which one will do it better.
Both rockets are now in space. However, the $4,000 rocket is already on its way to the Mun. The expensive rocket had to stay behind to do some assembly in orbit.
You see, this rocket is not only a Mun lander. It is also a Minmus base fit with rovers and satellites.
While the expensive rocket lags behind, the cheaper rocket is already preparing to land.
To make things easier, the expensive rocket is going to go to Minmus first.
This is due to the way the rocket was built. If we went to the Mun first, we'd have to land the base on both the Mun and on Minmus. Jeb is back on the Mun preparing his final descent. If he wastes even a single drop of fuel, he will not be able to get home. Now that the expensive rocket is at Minmus, it's going to perform its first mission objective. It starts by releasing one of the satellites and then saves the other one for the Mun.
Jeb finally touches down and has barely enough fuel to get home. But on the other hand, this mission doesn't need to worry about fuel at all. There's enough fuel in these jets to land three times over.
Now that the million-dollar rocket has landed, it's time to plant the flag, undock the rovers, and then take off.
The Minmus base was a success, and they will now live here forever.
Now that Jeb has planted the flag, he can get back in his spaceship, take off, and point towards home.
He has to be so careful with what he does cuz his spaceship is so well optimized that even one miss input means he's stuck up here forever.
It is now time for us to head to the Mun and say goodbye to the base.
After a long journey, we can finally get out and plant the flag.
Jeb is now on a free return trajectory to enter Kerbin.
He has no heat shields or parachutes. He has to do multiple orbits through the atmosphere to slow himself down.
Otherwise, he will burn up and not be able to get home.
Come on. You got this. Come on, man. You got it.
Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. No way. No way you made it through. Yeah, you are the goat. How? Bro, how?
>> [music] >> The million-dollar rocket is following right behind Chip. It will soon also be entering the atmosphere and returning home.
>> [music] >> It is now time to compare the two rockets. I have broken this down into a few categories. First, we have the fastest to the moon, which I have given to the $4,000 rocket. Next category is affordability, which obviously goes to the $4,000 rocket. Now, we have the coolest rocket, and in my opinion, it's the $1 million rocket. Now, we have the most capable rocket. This one has to go to the million-dollar rocket. Next category is the most efficient, which has to go to the cheap rocket. The last decision we have to make is which one was the best one, which I'm going to leave up to you guys in the comments.
Let me know which one you thought was the best one. I have to give a special thanks to Weasel for building this rocket for me. Follow him on TikTok and show him some love. He's actually insane at this game. I also want to thank you guys for watching and also 5,000 subscribers. Hopefully this video gave you a reason to smile and if it did, please consider liking and subscribing.
Thank you guys so much and I'll see you in the next video.
