Sports Medicine Doc Explains optimism with Spurs Dylan Harper’s Leg InjuryAdded:
Dylan Harper also left this game and it seemed like when he came down on his right leg he kind of just grabbed the back of the leg. So immediately you think okay is it his hamstring? You know, he didn't grab his knee so you're not really worried about the knee but he did grab his hamstring. So the concern would be you know, did he strain it? Was it tightness or was it anything else?
Now he did go to locker room and tried to run back on the court and it seemed the San Antonio medical staff said hey hey no you need to sit this back you know, be conservative about it. And that would be the hope. The hope that it be it was really nothing it just kind of startled him for a second and he just kind of grabbed back of the leg and that he's fine but they were just trying to be extra extra cautious with it. Um but again we just talked about hamstrings Eric. Something that you just don't want to play with and I'm sure they'll do him a MRI they'll do all the testing but let's hope that he does not have a strain and it's more something he was kind of just reacted that way to grab immediately and it's nothing more than any tightness or not even tightness.
Yeah you you never want to throw away games but the fact that they were up 1-0 and they know they need Dylan Harper just not knowing the the kind of how as far as Fox how what he's going to look like when he comes back. So they probably are like man we got to kind of watch our our guys here. We I hope I mean it could maybe maybe it is a strain too. I don't know yet but you know, for him to really want to come back out and then they kind of have to you know, hey hold your horses there maybe it was precautionary and you know, you know, hopefully that that's the case.
Yeah I'm hoping it's more of a precautionary thing but I would put his status really up in the air for game three if it's if it's any type of hamstring issue.
Um I'm sure we'll find out more tomorrow but you know, hoping for the best in terms of that.
Yeah, I mean you I mean you always talk about the timelines and it's that hamstring is like a week or two and if it's a grade one and as we know a series last a week or two. Yeah. And so it you know, it would be devastating for any of these guys to have that particular injury.
>> [snorts] >> Um, cuz it's just it's got to would have to be frustrating cuz he it's like you really can't get out there, you know, and so >> Yeah. Um, for all these guys Unless literally the next game was game seven and you don't have any games after that, game seven of the finals let's say, then it's like hey all all bets are off and guys are probably giving it a shot, but we're not quite there yet and so um, you know, guys have futures to think about too, so. Yeah.
Yeah, timelines are definitely totally different than playoffs, right? So if you think about the average timeline for somebody in just healing phase, you know, it's usually one two weeks for a grade one, grade two is somewhere in between three to six weeks, you know, depending on how bad the grade two is.
Um playoff though, they're going to put everybody on day-to-day. You're going to see Jaylen Williams is day-to-day tomorrow. You're going to see um, Dylan Harper's probably day-to-day and and you're not going to see him ruled out unless it's something so severe that they know there's no way in hell they can come back.
Um, so should be interesting.
Uh, we got a question on Twitter X.
Think [clears throat] he will miss the rest of the series?
Um Depending on who I guess we're talking about, but to Jaylen Williams, I'm more concerned that he would miss the rest of the series because this is likely an aggravation of his previous um, hamstring strain.
Now if it's Dylan Harper, I'm I'm less concerned cuz I kind of saw him want to come back and he's young and and you know, he's a rookie, right? He's like I just want to go play and I probably I'm or I felt like I could play, but the Spurs are being more cautious. So, I'm a little bit more optimistic about him than I am Jaylen Williams at this time.
