[00:00:11]Eileen Lee Wang, the former mayor of Arcadia, California, has pleaded guilty to working with the Chinese government between 2020 and 2022 without notifying the United States before she took office as mayor.

[00:00:27]This is, of course, a huge security risk and something that is a huge threat to the United States. It's good to see that she pleaded guilty. She accepted her consequences. And hopefully, the consequences will be harsh because we need to make an example. We need to send a message.

[00:00:59]This is huge. And this probably is not an isolated incident. I mean, we all know about Eric Swalwell sleeping with a Chinese spy, getting some bang bang with the Fang Fang, if you know what I mean.

[00:01:11]But, this is definitely not an isolated incident. We know that Chinese assets are in this country. The Chinese own 200 over 200,000 acres of American farmland.

[00:01:25]The Chinese have companies in China that advertise birth tourism to the United States, playing off of our insane birthright citizenship laws, saying, "Oh, if you're pregnant, go to the United States. Have the kid there.

[00:01:43]That way, they'll be an American citizen."

[00:01:46]These are all insane things that we need to tamper down on immediately.

[00:01:52]China is a hostile power. They are a foreign adversary. We have to take them seriously, and we cannot allow them to have a foothold in this country.

[00:02:02]Anyone who is working with the Chinese government needs to be prosecuted, convicted, and potentially even denaturalized and deported. We need to end birthright citizenship. We cannot allow this to go on any longer.

[00:02:17]And we need to force the sale of every acre of land that the Chinese own in this country back to Americans.

[00:02:28]Foreigners should not be allowed to own any property in this country, much less a foreign hostile power allowed to own farmland, most of which is near strategically important military bases.

[00:02:41]We have to end all of this.

[00:02:43]We have to take this threat seriously.

[00:02:46]We cannot allow the Chinese to just run around our country and do whatever they want with no consequences. It has to end.

[00:03:01]>> The ex-mayor of Arcadia is accused of working as an agent for China, and she is now striking a deal with federal prosecutors. NBC 4's Lauren Coronado is live in downtown LA, where Eileen Wang is expected to return to court this morning. Lauren?

[00:03:15]>> Adrian, good morning. The hearing is scheduled for 10:30 this morning here in downtown LA. We know the former mayor is expected to plead guilty as part of a plea agreement, and I want to break down all the details behind this case. The former mayor of Arcadia, Eileen Wang, was federally charged as an illegal agent for the People's Republic of China, and is accused of spreading propaganda on behalf of the Chinese government prior to serving on city council. Now, federal prosecutors say Wang has agreed to plead guilty to quote acting in the United States as an illegal agent of a foreign government.

[00:03:51]We spoke with legal analyst Royal Oaks earlier this month when the news broke.

[00:03:56]>> Key here is her failure to disclose her connection with the government of China.

[00:04:01]The allegation is that she was really acting at their direction. She was their agent. And whether she's stealing nuclear secrets or just posting editorials that were pro-China, the fact is, without registering as an agent, she's breaking federal law.

[00:04:18]>> Also earlier this month, Wing's lawyer said Wing's quote love and trust for apparently the wrong person ultimately led her astray, adding Wing apologizes and is sorry for the mistakes she has made in her personal life. Her love and devotion for the Arcadia community have not changed and did not waver. Now, the charges against Wing come after her fiance, 65-year-old Mike Sun of Chino Hills, was arrested in 2024 and was sentenced to 4 years in prison for also acting as an illegal agent of China.

[00:04:49]According to investigators, the two worked together for 2 years. A spokesperson for the city of Arcadia said the allegations against Wing did not impact any of the city's operations.
