Strokes are classified into two main types: ischemic strokes (85% of cases) occur when blood vessels become blocked, preventing blood flow and oxygen delivery to brain tissue, while hemorrhagic strokes (15% of cases) involve bleeding from weakened or ruptured blood vessels in the brain; both types cause brain damage through oxygen deprivation or blood accumulation, making immediate medical attention critical for effective treatment.

What's happening on the inside during a stroke? OhioHealth physician weighs in!追加:
Hi, I'm Dr. Aaron Laughton. I'm one of the stroke neurologists for Ohio [music] Health. We know what strokes look like in terms of face drooping, trouble moving one side of the body or the other, but I'm here today to talk to you about what exactly [music] is happening inside the body during a stroke. So, the first type of stroke we'll talk about that's the most common [music] is ischemic stroke. So, that's 85% of all strokes and the ones that most people know about. [music] So, what happens when an ischemic stroke occurs is that there's a lack of blood flow to the brain. So, just seconds or minutes can cause significant damage. A lot [music] of different reasons can cause this, but the ones that are most common are due to a blockage of a blood vessel either down here in the neck like the carotid artery or a blockage of a blood vessel higher up deep into the brain, either the small blood vessels or the large blood [music] vessels that are within the brain. Other causes can be due to things like high blood pressure, [music] cholesterol where the deep blood vessels get narrowed and then block off, or you can have a blood clot flick up from somewhere [music] else in the body. So, this is very common with heart conditions or things like atrial fibrillation. It's important to know that ischemia is due to lack of tissue [music] oxygen and that's what's happening during an ischemic stroke. The second type of stroke is called a hemorrhagic stroke, [music] which is essentially a bleeding stroke. This is about 15% of all strokes. So, this can be due to a lot of different reasons such as high blood pressure, [music] high cholesterol, diabetes, aneurysms, or different blood vessel problems within the brain, but the pathophysiology or what's actually happening in the brain [music] is all all the same is that the brain is bleeding. So, the blood vessels take as much as they can, but eventually they weaken and then when you start to have leaking of those blood vessels, that's when you start to have bleeding [music] on the brain. So, now you know a little bit about what's going on inside the body when you're having a stroke. So, if you or a loved one experience any symptoms of a stroke, you need to act fast and get [music] to the hospital or seek medical care as soon as possible.
