AWN Friday 5/15/26 Morning Statewide Forecast Update from James SpannHinzugefügt:
It's time [music] for your statewide Alabama weather cast.
>> [music] >> It's Friday the 15th of May. I'm James Spann getting set to cruise into a weekend that will be rain-free with a warming trend. Let's start with the Skycam tour network this morning coming from the Regions Skycam network. First off, Florence.
New football stadium construction there from the campus of the University of North Alabama. 55° nice and cool.
Across the uh northern half of the state, even South Alabama. Got some upper 40s there. Decatur 54.
A crystal clear sky in Morgan County.
That's coming from Huntsville. 52 up on top of Monte Sano Mountain as this day begins.
How about Jackson County? It's our Skycam at Weddington Park in Section 48.
Uh come July, August, we would do anything for a morning like this.
Here's a look at our Skycam coming from Cullman.
Clear and 51° there.
How about a peek from our Gadsden Skycam? Got the sun right there kind of kissing the horizon as the day begins there at 55° early this morning.
Birmingham Regions Center 57 with a clear sky.
Let's check out the mighty Tombigbee River at Demopolis, what do you say?
Marengo County 56° with a clear sky this morning.
Let's go to the state capital of Montgomery.
Nice glow on the horizon. They've got 53.
Let's head down US 231 to Pike County.
That's coming from Troy University where the sky is clear.
They're in the upper 40s by the way.
Abbeville, Henry County, Southeast Alabama 57.
How about downtown Mobile? 66, a little warmer for Mobile and Baldwin Counties overlooking the shipyard, Mobile Bay.
On the eastern shore of the bay, one of our favorite Skycams there.
That's coming from Fairhope. They're at 63.
And we'll wrap up the tour on the Alabama Gulf Coast and don't you know this place is going to get crowded in coming weeks. High school graduations are going on, school year wrapping up and everybody's going to flock to that beach and it looks good.
66 and if you're beach bound really I see no meaningful chance of rain for at least the next 7 days. Weather's going to be gorgeous with sunny days and fair nights.
So we've got a very dry air mass in place all across the deep south and a ridge will be building which means heat levels are going to come up. Of course no rain here on radar this morning.
We're dry through the weekend with that warming trend. Now the middle of next week there's some evidence the door could open up for a decent chance of rain for the northern half of the state by Wednesday.
We'll wait and see if that happens.
This morning look at those 40s as far south as Eufaula and Troy and Greenville. How about that? Look at Eufaula 46.
Gadsden 46, Alexander City at 46° this morning. Clanton 47, Selma in the upper 40s but the air is dry which means it heats up very efficiently. Most spots will be in the low 80s this afternoon.
Rain for the next 7 days maybe a half inch around the Tennessee Valley North Alabama with that Wednesday front.
But South Alabama not much at all which is not good because that's the new drought monitor that was released yesterday.
Southeast Alabama still in that extreme drought. That's the red. And really a pretty good chunk of the state is in a severe drought. Uh the orange on that map. So we still need some rain around here but again prospects aren't looking good.
Here's our forecast for the northern half of the state. We're dry through the weekend.
There's your warming trend. 88 by Sunday, 90 Monday and Tuesday. And again I've upped the chance of rain Wednesday for North Alabama with a surface front approaching and the ridge a little weaker.
And then just only isolated showers on Thursday.
South Alabama dry through early next week. Low 90s Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and even Wednesday and Thursday, I'm afraid the chance of rain for South Alabama quite small and afternoon highs will stay very close to 90. That's the Alabama forecast this morning on the Alabama Weather Network.
