In Galatians 1, the Apostle Paul emphasizes that salvation comes through God's grace alone, not through religious works or human effort, and he strongly warns against false teachings that distort the true gospel of Jesus Christ's sacrifice for our sins.

What Paul Said About False Teaching Will Shock YouAdded:
What are you called to do? What does Jesus called you to do? And I love that because when Paul calls himself an apostle, he said, "This is what God has called me to do." And I'm always reminded every time I I go through these letters, I'm always reminded of our calling. What are you called to do? What does Jesus called you to do? There is no higher calling than the others. All callings, if they're from God, they're exactly what God wants us to do. So, we need to be okay. It might be, you know, your name a doctor, your name a lawyer, your name car salesman, your name whatever it is that God has called you to do. You could do it through the grace of God. If serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose [music] whom you will serve.
But as for me and my household, we will [music] serve the Lord. It is almost afternoon, around noon, so maybe it is afternoon.
I'm out here enjoying a Tatuaje black.
This is a petite lancero. It is a Nicaraguan sun-grown wrapper with Nicaraguan binder and filler, so it's a puro, meaning all the leaves are grown in Nicaragua. It is a fantastic cigar.
It's becoming one of my favorite all-time daily smokes. It's just super good. Has a nice spice to it. Little bit of little bit of earth, not so much. I'm not a big fan of earthy cigars, so it's not too much, but man, it's super fabulous. I was out just kind of reading through the letter to the Galatians, which when Paul wrote the letter to the Galatians, basically he's writing to a number of churches in the Galatia area, which is Asia Minor. It in It includes Antioch and Iconium, Lystra, Derby.
These are all areas that Paul went to on his missionary journeys, and he shared the gospel, and he saw a lot of success sharing the gospel. A lot of people were getting saved because they were introduced to Jesus from Paul the Apostle.
And it's interesting because when Paul was in these areas, like in Iconium for example, he would have these Judaizers from Jerusalem come down and and basically stir up the people against Paul and and Paul found out that they were trying to kill him, so they fled. And then Paul actually went to um from Iconium, he went to Lystra.
And when he was in Lystra, Paul healed a crippled man. And the people in Lystra were like so excited about that. They started exalting Paul and Barnabas was also with him.
And they started calling them gods. They were calling them Zeus. They were calling them Hermes. And Paul and Barnabas were like, "No, no, no, we're just men. We're just men, right? We We We don't want you know, you to worship us. You need to worship Jesus because he's the one that does the work." And And it's interesting because one minute they're worshiping Paul and Barnabas.
They're setting them up as gods. They're bringing offerings to them. And then the next minute these Judaizers come down and they literally stone Paul. They kill him. They bring him outside of town. And then Paul's raised from the dead. Then he comes back into town and then he's in Derby. But so Paul is writing letters to these churches and he's writing to the the church of Galatia. And I find it really interesting cuz when Paul writes this letter, he starts off. He says, "Paul, an apostle not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised him from the dead." So as Paul's writing this letter, he's letting them know, "I'm an apostle. I'm one that was sent out."
There were 12 apostles and Paul was one of them. He was the one born out of due season. He wasn't with Jesus when he was on this planet. He was the one that got knocked off of his horse on the Damascus Road. After he got saved, he went home, basically, and he was down in the desert for about 3 years, no doubt relearning everything new about this new faith, about Jesus, how he is the the Messiah, how he's the the the God of the universe, basically. And I like what he says. He says, "I'm an apostle, but not from man or through man." Man didn't lift up Paul.
Man didn't exalt and and and give Paul this title. He said, "I became an apostle through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised him from the dead."
So, Paul is letting them know, first off, I am an apostle because of Jesus. He made me the apostle. And I love that because when when Paul calls himself an apostle, he said, "This is what God has called me to do."
And I'm always reminded, every time I I go through these letters, I'm always reminded of of our calling.
What are you called to do? What has Jesus called you to do? There is no higher caller than calling than the others.
All callings, if they're from God, they're exactly what God wants us to do. So, we need to be okay. It might be, you know, your name a doctor, your name a lawyer, your name a car salesman, your name whatever it is that God has called you to do.
You could do it through the grace of God.
And so, when Paul says who he is, he's introducing who he is and letting them know, God's the one that called me to do this.
And he says, "So, I'm an apostle, not from men, but through Jesus and all the brethren who with me." So, Paul had followers. He had Timothy with him. He had Titus with him. He had Bartimaeus with him. He had He had a crew of people that would go and minister with Paul.
And now he's addressing this letter to the churches of Galatia. Again, Galatia is not a church, it's a region, and there's a bunch of different churches that he's reaching out to.
And then he says this, "Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ." And I love the way he introduces these letters in the way he addresses the the readers of these letters. He always says grace to you.
What is grace? Grace is God's unmerited, undeserved, unearned favor that he's given to you.
God's grace, he's given you something you don't deserve. Now, mercy is something that we we we deserve punishment, but he doesn't give us a punishment. Grace is him giving us this free gift. He He gives us something that we don't deserve. So, he says, "Grace to you and peace from the God the Father."
And you've probably heard this before, but he always says grace and peace because there's no way you could ever understand or receive or have the peace of God until first you understand the grace of God. That God's grace is sufficient for you. His peace is made perfect in your weakness, Paul says. So, he says, "Grace to you." He's letting them know that God has given you grace, and he's recognizing that. Grace to you, churches of Galatia, and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
And then he says, "Who gave himself for our sins." You know, you think about that statement for a minute that Paul says.
Jesus gave himself for our sins.
There's nothing that we could do that is good enough to heal us from our sin nature or to heal us from our sins.
Now, the Old Testament, they had the law, and they had the sacrifices. They would sacrifice an animal, and that animal would would be a covering for their sin. It would be something that they would have to do yearly. They would lay their hands on the on the on the offering and they would burn the offering and it was like a covering for their sins, but Jesus himself gave himself for our sins.
When he was on the cross and he said it's finished, he took care of all of our sins. All of our present, all of our past, and all of our future sins.
He gave himself. When we look at the gospel here in a minute, that's why it's so powerful because he's the one that paid the price for our sins. There's nothing we could do.
There's nothing we could do to be forgiven of our sins except turn to him who paid the price for our sins.
And he says he gave himself for our sins that he might deliver us from this present evil age according to the will of God and Father. So he didn't only give us or for himself forgive us of our sins, but he did it that we may be delivered from the present evil age. You know, when I look around the world today and I look at all the shenanigans going going on and and all just the the the pollution, the the trash that we're exposed to daily on the internet, on on TV, you know, just in in in just in nature. I mean just the the wicked things that are going on around us. He delivered us from this present evil age. He's delivered us. He's given us a new home.
As a believer, our home is no longer here. Our home is actually in heaven. We are just passing through and we're able to do that because he gave himself for our sins that he might deliver us from this present evil age. To whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. I I love that as Paul is addressing this this um this letter as he's addressing these churches and he talks about what Jesus did for us, how he paid the price for our sins.
He kind of breaks out in praise. He says, "To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen. So be it." He is so excited.
He is so excited for this statement.
He's so excited for this this faith that he has been given through Jesus Christ.
He's so excited for the faith that has been given to the to the readers that he's writing to. He's so excited for this good news that he breaks out in this man be glory forever and ever. Amen.
He's excited and I hope you're excited for the grace that he has given you.
Because the grace that he's given you is is a beautiful, wonderful, awesome, amazing thing that he's given you.
And then notice what he says in this next verse.
In verse 6, he says, "I marvel that you're turning away so soon from him who called you in the grace of Christ to a different gospel." Now, he he's actually blown away. He's kind of like blown away at this part of the letter as he's thinking as he's writing this letter.
He says, "I'm I'm blown away, man. I marvel that you're turning away so soon from him who called you in the grace of Christ to a different gospel." When you think about the gospel, what is the gospel?
The gospel is that Jesus became a man.
God in the flesh became a man. He dwelt among us. He died on a cross for our sins and the third day he rose again. So he overcame death and through him we too could overcome death.
And the reason why the gospel is so important, the gospel means of good news. You know why it's good news? It's because he paid the price. He gave himself for our sins.
There's nothing we could do to be forgiven of our sins except turn to the one who paid the price.
When we turn to him, his grace is is sufficient for us. His grace covers us. His blood covers us. When he was on the cross and he said, "Father, it is finished." It is finished. This work is finished. The payment for our sins, for for sins of all mankind were paid for on that cross once and for all.
He said, "It's done."
And the good news is is he did the work and if we turn to him, we will have eternal life. The Bible says if we confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus, believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead, we will be saved.
Salvation is simple.
But what this church is doing, they're turning from the good news, the gospel, to a different gospel. And there is there is no other good news out there.
The only good news is that he paid the price and we get to receive that. We we are recipients of the grace that he has given to us. So, he's marveling.
Don't you marvel at times when you see people are in this world and it's like, "Why in the world would you not want what Jesus has to offer you?"
It blows me away that people run from God, but I understand that because I for many years, I too ran from God. I didn't want anything to do with God most of my life until I actually it was June of 1990 when I got saved.
I too wanted nothing to do with God. I thought God was going to wreck my life.
I thought God didn't want me to have anything good. I thought if I if I want anything good, I've got to go out and get it myself. I've got to take care of it myself. I believed I was a good person. I wasn't hurting anyone. At least, nobody knew that I was hurting them. So, I thought I was okay.
But, when I figured out, when I learned that I was a sinner, that I had sin, and that Jesus did pay the price for our sins, and all we have to do to turn to him, and he will forgive us, and the life that he's given me now today is so so much better than anything I ever had back in the world.
And Paul is like, why in the world would you turn from this grace of Christ to a different gospel? And then in verse 7, he says this, which is not another.
There There's There's no other good news out there, guys.
No other good news out there except what Jesus did for us on the cross.
He says, which is not another, but there are some who want to trouble you and want to pervert the gospel. That's the problem.
There are people that want to trouble you and they want to pervert the gospel.
Now, in the early church, God's own people, the Jews, the the religious leaders, the Pharisees, wanted to come and rip these people off and say, you Gentiles, you can't be saved.
You Gentiles, you can't have any hope because the only way you could have hope is to be like us cuz we follow the law of God. We are God's called people.
You've got to be like us. And Paul's saying there is no other gospel. There is no other good news but that Jesus paid the price. He said, there's not another gospel.
Some want to trouble you. They want to pervert the gospel of Christ. And let me tell you something, if anybody rips you off or wants to tell you that you need grace plus, then they're ripping you off. They're perverting the gospel. We are saved by grace through faith alone. That's how we're saved. Now, does that give us freedom to live any life we want and do whatever we want? No. No, that's not what I'm saying at all. What I'm saying is our salvation is a free gift that Jesus gave us when we believed in him, when we turned our life over to him.
So, he says, "But even if we or an angel from heaven, even if Moroni or another angel from heaven comes out and says, 'There's another gospel.'"
He says, "If they preach any other gospel to you than which we have preached to you, let them be accursed."
As I have said to you before and now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than which you have received, let him be accursed. Now, this word accursed is in the Greek anathema, which basically means let them be eternally damned.
Notice the severity of what Paul is saying here. If somebody tries to rip you off from the gospel of peace, from the true gospel of Jesus Christ, from the free grace that he has given you, let him be damned. Let him be damned.
Let him be anathema. Let him be accursed. And he didn't say it once, he said it two times.
Two times. Again, I say if anyone preaches, if anybody is proclaiming to you another gospel than what you have received from us, let him be accursed.
So, take hope, you guys, today.
Take just joy. Take refuge in the grace of God, in the peace of God. Take refuge in the gospel, in the good news that he paid for your sins. Turn to him today.
Hope in him today. And may you be blessed.
God bless you, guys.
