In UAS racing, tire management is critical for performance, with tire selection (such as 33s versus 11s), pressure settings, and proper wiping techniques directly affecting race outcomes. Tire fade occurs when tires overheat and lose grip, which can be diagnosed by checking tire temperatures after runs—hotter tires indicate excessive force or setup issues. Proper tire prep and pressure adjustments help maintain consistent performance throughout a race, while chassis setup and tire selection must be matched to track conditions for optimal results.

Kart 6T3_Ben is live!Added:
I I got to hook up the L microphone and uh and we'll just plug this in right here and then we'll put this thing on here like so. Can you hear me? Can everybody see me?
This this week has been uh it's been crazy. It's uh it's been a little bananas with timing and everything else.
Um, now what I do with the other bolt? I'll be right back. I apologize. There it is.
Not a pressing issue or anything like that, but decided I was going to attempt to work on the UAS cart this week because over here that is ready to go.
I figured me uh screwing up the timing today was going to cost me some viewers.
And that's okay. Anybody who joins in, I super appreciate it.
Um, it happens. I try not to uh I'm a very say I'm a I'm haphazardly with things, but I'm also I I try and be schedule oriented. Like I I try not to miss videos on Sundays. I don't think I have in a very very long time. And I'm trying to stay up on the live streams, which hasn't been a problem up until today.
Uh it just uh I had, you know, like everybody else, we had Memorial Day off on Monday. Or I'll say a lot of us, not everybody. I'm sure I'm sure some people had to work that day, but Monday off, work Tuesday, work Wednesday. I I was uh I took took my ladies up to the city today. They had doctor's appointment and uh we, you know, bouncing around. went to Costco and uh BJ BJ's Wholesale and stuff like that. Well, came home and ate too much when I was up in the city and it was time for a nap. Took a nap. I was like, man, I didn't get to work out. So, I took pre-workout. I was ready to go and then I realized that it was about half an hour to when I was supposed to be doing the live stream.
Yeah.
Uh that's my my plan, Doug. Uh this is uh this is that ride or it might not be.
We'll we'll see how I'm I'm doing at that point. Uh Snappy Neck has my engine still. That's fine. There's no pressure there because I I just uh I just haven't had the time or the the honestly the money. I gota my my motorworks clone is done so I got to pay for that.
Uh so I'm in no rush to get that back and uh and completely deplete what little money I have. But yeah, uh my intent is to at least get a couple races in UAS- wise to score points. I got to be, you know, be a member, run a quarter point and all that to be able to go down to that. But we'll we'll see. It's it's my intent to go. Uh I really want to go. I try and make everyone that I possibly can.
Obviously when it's on the west coast or uh it was in Arizona the one one time it's just like that's a no can do. But this year uh we do have a race at Stateline which is like two hours from me and that's I believe that that's a quarter point and I I really hope to make that. So uh I got to look at the date on that. I can't remember when it is. Uh but yeah, you want to buy my you know you like the shirt. I would love to buy your premiere. I do not have money for it.
Uh yeah, that's uh I knew this this day was going to come when uh you know because I I took my my motorworks engine in just to be refreshed and have it updated, everything good to go. And I knew this day was going to come that I was going to have to you know, pay for that rebuild. And then eventually Chris is going to get my get my Bama 250 done.
And I I I figured that that that chain of events was going to happen probably in short order. Both those bills were going to be uh due at the, you know, near the same time and it's going to it's going to hurt. It's going to hurt badly.
Oh, I have a few miles from where? Oh, nice. That's cool. Yeah. Morrison, Tennessee. everything I hear it's uh that you know we're UAS so we can run whatever tire we want but what I hear is that that track loves burst and I love that. I'm a I'm a I'm a burst kind of girl. Mhm. Yes, I am.
Uh hey Ben, how's it going all the way from Wisconsin? Oh nice here. Yeah. Uh it's not too bad today.
It I just got out of the gym. not too long ago. That's hence why I'm wearing the sheet. See this? It's not overly warm here right now. Like I don't know.
It's probably 65. I don't know, somewhere in there. Um, but I just got out of the gym. Like I I was saying that uh the reason I'm late. I had the day off, did some stuff with my my uh wife and daughter, and then I had a nap, and I was like, man, I got to get a workout in. And then I took pre-workout and then I realized it was Thursday because Monday being off threw my whole schedule off and that's why I backed it up half an hour. But I went I got a quick workout in and uh yeah. Yes, AMS this weekend. That's the intent. Uh oh, Mattis will work there too. Okay.
Yeah.
I it's not that I don't want it to be an open playing field, but I I like it when one tire works better than others just because I don't have to bring the whole anchilada. Uh but I do have some access and I I will prep them. Uh yes, but you uh AMS this weekend. Yes, I am. I will be there. Bquare that right there is all set up, ready to rock. Scaled out.
Scaled out last week on there. got to check the toe again. I was just slightly off. I don't know because I was talking online to you guys. Uh I was slightly off on my toe tick. Nothing horrible. I don't think it really would have affected much, but I reset it just for uh craps and giggles. I almost I almost sore. Uh for craps and giggles, I I almost uh Yeah. Yeah. I I I just I I was like I'm looking at it and it just when you look at the rear of a cart and I'm just like, man, is that on? I better check that again. And I checked it one more time.
It's just just a hair off. Uh that's cool. You got to do what you Yeah, I know.
I did not uh race it. No. Matter of fact, I planned on running AMS and it rained out. It It's weird. Like AMS has probably rained out a handful of times over the past 10 years. 10 years. They just it just rarely happens. There's a drain at the bottom. It's high bank.
There's a drain at the bottom. If there's a window, John usually can get in. And if by chance they lose it, they run Sunday. But it was Memorial Day weekend. People had plans. It was also looking a little eh, you know, on on Sunday. So, they decided to postpone that. They're going to run doubles this week. So they're running the Memorial Day 30s, so 30 lap teachers, some money up there. Biggest class gets 200 to win.
All other classes, I think other seven classes, eight classes are 100 to win.
So that's awesome. Um they're going to run that show and then back to back they'll take a small intermission and they can run to as late as they want and then they're going to run this week's point after that show. So, I probably won't run two classes. Like, if it was just going to be the 30s, I planned on running double 30s. I was going to run 375 and 400. But, being it's a double show, I probably will only run 400 and then run it, you know, back to back. Run both shows back to back.
So, I'll get to run 400 twice. But I just uh running 375 and 400 is just going to be I I intend to do content and if I run two classes especially that you know it's a it's a Saturday night track.
It's not a big pardon me a big event so chances are it's going to kind of you know go off fairly quickly. I just don't see that I'm going to be able to do four classes essentially in a night and content. I think it's gonna it's one is going to have to go or the other and honestly some breathing room so I'm not scrambling the entire time washing tires getting tires ready but you know all that stuff I I think it is just better better served by me unless I run you know what I could run the 400 for the 30s and then I could run 375 and 400 for the nightly show or the you know the the point show after that. I'll have to I'll have to uh I'll have to take consider that big say race there. I I haven't Oh, yeah. Yeah. Uh more Oh, and uh Stateline. Yeah. Next year. Word is I I don't think it's been officially announced. Word is there's a big UAS show coming to Stateline, the big track next year. Maybe.
Maybe. We'll see. Uh, I, you know, I I used to be administrator. I'm not as in the know with UAS stuff as I used to be.
It's because all this freaking clone racing I'm doing.
I'm at the age where I need to race when my head is in gear. Glad to have a few weeks. Yeah, it's I like to race. It It just blows my mind that people run like four or five classes. Of course, I will say it I won't say it's easy because that would be taken away from how difficult it is to run that many classes, but I will say this. When people run those four or five classes at these big shows and everything and they're able to do that, it's because they have a team behind them. They're not me. This, you know, I am my team. Uh, I have an electric cart left right there for a reason because I I'm usually all by myself. Um, not always, but usually. And, you know, cleaning tires, changing gear, having to handle everything. I will say that, you know, unless you have engine problems, uh, in UAS, I it's okay. Uh, but like clone as long as your gearing is right, you know, just having time. If you can work on setup, if you can work on, you know, your gearing and setup while somebody's doing your tires for you, you know, even just washing them and stuff, taking them off, washing them, and you can pay attention. I could see, you know, that being a lot easier. It's just not, uh, not usually the case for me.
Um, but yeah.
No. Uh, state line. Uh, is it Pennsylvania or is it New York?
Uh it's they have a big track there that they run, you know, your your typical big big cars on. And then right next to it is the is the cart track, but we are having a race on the big I think it's 38 mile. We're having a race on the 38 mile here this year. And yeah, it it should be a lot of fun. I love big tracks. Uh yeah, I I I grew up racing one, you know, just an hour from here. So yeah.
Okay. Thanks. The New York The New York one. I think the the old Yes, the old state line. Yes. That was We ran into that back when Paradise, the big track I was talking about was in, you know, Geneva. It I mean, it's still there, but it's not running. Um, you know, I'd say Paradise and everybody is assuming down south and I'm like, "No, no, that's Paradise down south is fast." Uh, but it's not. That was a quarter mile on the inside. So, it was like 38 the line you ran. Um, this is this is marketed as a 38 oval, I think. State line up here in New York, PA. I just don't know what state. Is it NPA? It might be NPA. It's two hours away from me. I know that. I was looking for some nuts. I have to put nuts on those.
Wait, you would think I'd be more organized. I am not. I am uh I am all over the place here. I bet you I could find some over in that bin over there.
They used to used to drive uh my buddy Wall absolutely bananas. He'd come into my shop and he would see this this mess of bolts I have. And it's I try and be a little more organized than say my grandfather. My grandfather was a notorious We didn't call them hoarders back then. We called them packrats. And my grandpa was a notorious packrat.
Uh wait, maybe there's something here.
No. Yes. No.
Yeah.
Maybe. Yes, that's one. Um, anyway, I as you look, I cleaned them my shop. I cleaned I cleaned my shop up. Oh, and I changed the board. So, I took the track tack down because you couldn't read all the track tack and I I have a sticker and stuff. And obviously, they have the, you know, the the intro, their names up there and everything. I wanted more room for stickers.
So, and I kind of missed the shelf. So, the shelf has the track tags here. I'll give you a better look at it. Uh, this will be in the next video, but I I brought back the shelf. And so, I got some I got some track products there.
And then I moved this up a little so you can see it a little better. And at the top when I'm doing videos, you're going to be able to see these things here. So, this is I I put the camera right on this edge and then it'll come over. This is the the field of vision of the camera.
Sorry. over to this edge. So, this this will give me more room for stickers and stuff. It just it was the in the beard octane thing, too. I mean, I got beard Octane there, there, there. You know, I'm I I believe that I'm representing the spots as well by all the stickers, the intro and stuff like that. So, I don't think anybody's going to be too torn up about it that I took off that that big uh I took down the big track sign, which is right here, just cuz you couldn't read it. And also that that lends itself to the availability of me putting it up at track if I ever, you know, need a shade or something like that.
Uh my son and I are fresh getting in there. Thanks for friend essentially bringing us on the team, but chassis is taking care of everything else. Learning the predator class this year for him.
Nice. Very cool. Yeah. Uh it's as competitive as the big that light. Uh as competitive as the big races are, what you find at the local level, don't get me wrong, there are jerks there. There are people that, you know, keep speed secrets, which you know, everybody kind of does to a degree, but you will, you know, racers are racers. Racers want to help racers.
And you're going to find that more often than not, people are willing to lend a hand to make you faster. Now, uh, who who was it?
Was it a story about Kyle Bush?
I think it might have been somebody was telling a story how, you know, they were helping him out and then eventually they beat him and then he was just like, I'm done with the phone calls. I can't Was it Was it Daniel Suarez? I can't remember who it was, but that story came out this past week after Kyle's passing.
And I had the exact same thing happen to me. I was helping uh you know Ron O'Neal and Shawn Pay and with tires they call and ask and I' I'd give them information on Vegas and and this and that and then he beat me uh pretty pretty handedly at AMS for I don't know if I was in the title height or not title hunt or not but he straight up beat me at AMS and I walked over and it's a you know it's a story that I'm sure has been told a million times that you're cut off you're done it's I will get you to my bumper, but as soon as you beat me, all done.
And I think you you'll find that, you know, at most local tracks that there are people and families that are willing to lend a hand, willing to to give a part, you know, do all these things that help another racer along, get into the sport, and be competitive. But careful, if you get too fast, that's that's it.
That's all you get.
Yeah. Yeah. That's Yeah. Oh, man. My My wife had I I'm sure a ton of people.
My wife was a KB fan when uh Kirk came into the sport. He was running for Roush. I'm a Ford guy. I was like, "All right." You know, a matter of fact, I back in the day, I had the uh I had the Sharpie 63 was my uh flathead cart. And I had the whole the nose decal and all all that stuff, you know, the headlights on a cart, that type of thing. So my wife, as Kyle came in, she was just like, "Oh, she'll she's watching NAS a little bit of NASCAR with me." She became a Kyle fan. She's just like she loved it, you know, just kind of his brash attitude and no holds barred type of thing. Uh my wife cried for like four days straight. She uh and she won't sit and watch an entire race with me anymore. She just kind of comes in, oh, how's Kyle doing? How's how's Blie doing? you know, what what's it looking like and you know, get a get a a little, you know, blip of information on and then she's off doing her thing. Well, she sat down, she watched the entire 600 with me and just the the memorial that they did for him. Fantastic. Uh not not a dry eye in the stands or at home. You know, I'm not I'm not huge on crying, but this man could weep. Uh and I I I wept for his family and uh they I love I loved his attitude, too. Uh, you know, I wasn't a Bush guy, per se, but always, dude, when he won it was like great. The It's funny that during the Jimmy Johnson days, I think I don't dislike Jimmy Johnson, but you hate when somebody wins everything. I never really got sick of Kyle winning. That was It was just He was just that good. Uh, man, terrible. Just terrible. But yeah, my wife, it wasn't until Monday, um Monday that my wife didn't cry. And uh I I could feel it, you know, she's, you know, she's a mom. She can she can she can't even imagine losing uh myself.
Uh you know, having having kids, losing their dad or anything like that, let alone, you know, that was that was her guy and now it's just like gone. Uh but yeah, God's Garage in Eastbend, North Carolina sparked the fire. Spark the fire for him. He's done K1 league in the last year and a half. Nice. Yeah, it was it uh man that uh and seeing uh uh Larson's son come up and hug him. Oh, just that was that was tough. That was tough.
You know, it's somebody that you know, very few of us will, you know, ever had a chance to meet or anything like that. Obviously, I I don't I didn't get to meet him or anything, but, you know, you just see him on TV, you know, that larger little life kind of persona just tells you how how fragile life is and that, you know, doing what we do, racing carts and racing and being around each other. And there's you got to you got to enjoy it while it's here. Uh because you just never know. Some some days your your day is up. Uh and it's unfortunate but true. So have fun. Love love your family. Love your love the people around you. Do the best you can to uh to be good to Hey, I'm getting the brake boost back on this thing. Oh, please tell me that's right.
I got my seat mounted. Those are the right threads, right?
Yeah, that's not fine, is it?
Bogus.
Did I grab two f? No, those are those are coarse. Sorry, guys.
Yeah, that's uh they it's make I won't say it's egocentric. It's not egocentric. It is is a proof to uh the hard work that I've done. I have a picture. I have pictures of myself. I have a picture of myself in 2020 on vacation. I told my wife, I said, "You have to take essentially the same picture of me, you know, up there." Uh, since 2020, I have done a lot of work in the gym. I I have tried to better my health. I I tried to, you know, start eating right and and picking up heavy things and doing all that. And the transformation is it'll be it's in August. So, you know, uh I want to do comparison pictures because I did lose a lot of weight in 2020 because we're we're starting the journey of trying to be more healthy and do those things, but it wasn't I didn't start lifting or anything till then. And I think I was down to like 178 pounds. So, but it was just kind of saggy dadbod. And I'm like, I have worked my butt off for six years.
I'm like, you gotta, you know, maybe maybe for my own, I guess you could call it ego, but I'm not an egocentric type of person. Um, they just, you got to get the same photo so I can do a comparison. I also have a fat bend one. It's awesome. I have a couple fat bend ones there. There's one that hangs on my toolbox at work to remind me last summer I was up to two 225 pounds and uh I was I was I was sleeping bad. Uh, real red. I I don't know that I have sleep apnea, but I snored like a like a champ.
Like it was my job.
That bold work. Why am I having such a hard time finding nuts that will fit this? That's uh one of my problems when I take there was just a series of unfortunate or fortunate if you want to look at it that way events. When I took apart this cart, I sold the recon and I kept the scythe for UAS because I I have done very well on this chassis in UAS. Um I I had to switch the brake systems and everything over so I could sell the sell the recon. And then you would think that I just took bolts and went like this. I didn't. I put them I thought I put them all in the bin. I didn't put them all in the bin because I'm having a real hard time finding all the bolts that went everywhere unless I use, you know, some others for something else. And I'll get it figured out.
I think these are just gummed up threads, but I found a couple uh I found a couple bolts that already had safety holes drilled in them, and I I kind of want to use those because safety Oh, no. I drilled the one in there. Safety holes are a pain. I got to get one of those blocks um to drill my own my own bolts for safety pins.
That really is one of the things that I've had on my to-do list.
But yeah, oh my goodness. The uh the the cart is this cart is good to go. All scaled, ready. If you're wondering why I got tires on it, it's because I have a 4x8 trailer and there's not a lot of room for tires. I have two two sets on the rack. Yeah, two sets on the tire rack, one set on a pole. So, I got three sets of 33s. I have a fourth set of 33s sitting there, but they're old. And I don't think, you know, if it's if it's a hot dry track, I think those will be okay, at least in the ballpark. or maybe I could run them in like a a heat race or or something like that, but I just I don't feel as if they're going to be competitive. So, I got some uh I got one set of 11s, one set or uh and one set of 25s and two sets of 26 33s that I'm going Saturday with. And it's a track that you can run 11s or 33s. I had somebody say that they they had better luck with 11s and I don't disagree. I just have had them fade on me late. I think it's because how how I set up a cart.
I'm on the right rear a lot and I think I just burn it up. I think it it loses towards the end. So, a 33 has always served me a little better. It has a tendency where 11s will burst off real fast. Obviously, they're softer. They do really good. Uh if I do the proper thing to my tires, if I if I wipe them correctly, they have a tendency to come on better towards the end of a run. And I like that better to whereas I don't fade as hard and maybe, you know, uh maybe I'm able to hang the only problem with that is that you you better hope they refire off a restart because sometimes you get those late race restarts and uh I should do a video on that too because I'm I'm sure everybody's dealt with that. Uh you know, everything's going well. while you're in the lead, you're running down the leaders, whatever scenario you can pick up from that. Um, and what what you might do with your tires with, you know, uh, you know, keeping heat in the tires, this and that. Do you want to cool the tires down? Did they start to get too hot? Do you want to run up in the loose stuff and get them cooled down? That type of scenario. Uh, yeah, that that'd be a that'd be a fair video to do.
Hey, getting the brake boost back on here.
I need another 1/2 in. One second. Oh, wait. What are What are ways not to lose speed around a cart track? Does chassis brand matter? Um, chassis brand can matter depending on setup. Some chassis are built softer, some chassis are built harder. Now, you know, as far as flex rate now, what that does to the tire matters, but most modern chassis are there. I don't I don't know of any chassis brand or chassis model now that is like a complete slouch. Now, you're talking, you know, I got a scythe right here, and some people just absolutely hated the scythe. They they they did not like it. They, you know, I think it works great for UAS. That being said, you're I think the people that are that dislike the scythe are nitpicking about one attribute of the chassis or not. I believe this car gets into the corner better than my other carts do or not my other Phantoms have in the past. It gets into the corner better than the Recon.
Now, the Recon may have a little better exit than this, but that's uh you're again, you're splitting hairs with most chassis. Does one have a super advantage over the other? Probably not.
A lot of it comes down to setup and tires. Losing speed in a run will probably be tires, but it also has chassis. Um, if you are too hard on one of the tires, that tire is going to fade. We'll just pick the right rear because that seems to be a limiting factor here. You can burn up a left rear, but it's, you know, when you're too hard on your right rear, you are overheating your right rear and it will eventually fade. that's they only have so much grip that that is going to be in the tire once it exceeds a certain temperature or a length of being running that tire is going to fade. So your people will say, "Oh, your your your tires are off." Yes, your tires can be off. But even if your tires are on and you're on one of those tires too hard, that will make a difference.
So what what I'd say is if if you're fading late, maybe work on uh you know, if you come off track, feel your tires. If one tire is exceptionally hotter than the other, if you have a temp gun, you can, you know, be be more uh specific about that, but feel it.
Come off the track, feel your tires. If your front tires are cold and your rear tires are hot, chances are you have a little bit too much uh rear percentage put into the car. You're you're leaning on the rear. The same goes for a single tire. If you come off and your right front, left front, left rear are all medium temperature, but your right rear is super hot, that means you're putting way too much force on that particular tire and that tire is starting to fail you. Another thing you can do is if if you have the ability, if you have different sets of tires, come up a little bit in durometer or possibly back off on the prep a little bit. If you're overly aggressive on prep, you can it'll be lightning fast at first and then you will burn through the prep. You you no longer are on that chemical anymore.
You're getting down to base rubber. That base rubber does not agree with whatever surface you're on. So there there are a lot of there are a lot of variables there that can be affecting that. But usually the case is that you ran through the prep or you're too hard on one of your or not too hard, but your your chassis setup is too hard on whatever uh tire that is that's fading.
Uh should treads typically be higher PSI than sl.
I don't don't uh don't quote me on that.
I haven't run treads in a very long time. Maybe somebody in the chat here can can tell you, you know, just base base of what you run. Um I think so. And here's my reasoning for it. When you run a I got a lawn mower over here. Right there. Right there. There's my lawn mower. If you were to run tires on the rear of a lawnmower on a wetter grass, if you run them low on pressure, they have a tendency to spin. Now, when you blow them up, when you put more air, that pushes the lugs down into the ground. So, also, uh, treads are a heavier tire and they they have a tendency, you know, the roll speed is a is a thing with them as well. You know, not only slicks, but with treads that the more air you take out of them, that the heavier the tire, the heavier the rubber is because of all the lugs on the tire, it takes a little bit more air to keep those things going. How high that is, I don't know. Uh, personally, I would probably be running more. I've heard of, you know, people running 10 to 13 PSI in them, but I don't know. Uh, it's just not a world that I'm in yet.
You know, treads haven't made their way into New York yet. So, there you go. Yes. Treads are a little higher pressure, very sensitive to to each other. Oh, there you go. Yep. Yep.
That's uh I think probably probably you know somewhat of what I said there pertains to that that they you know rolling speed roll speed and pushing those lugs down into the ground that you know I think a flatter tire just isn't a flatter tread it's going to have a tendency if I if I might pontificate here is going to have a tendency to the shoulders the the sidewalls of the tire come down if you're running low tread much like a car tire uh It'll wear on the sides and not the center because it's allowing it to cup and not, you know, be be engaged with the ground.
Just my theory though.
One second. Getting a uh getting a half inch.
Getting a half inch. Yeah, eventually here I'll have the UAS ride all back together. I did get the nerf bars out. That's good.
I was putting stuff away cleaning the shop the other day and I was looking at the thing and I was like, "Oh, wait. The nerf bars are up in the rafters. I better get those." So, I did.
Oh, safety clips.
I do have to get I think I got to get a wolf plate. I built my own wolf plate. I don't know if it'll be legal or not. So, um I just had spare stuff kicking around, so I used it. See, this is what I'm talking about. Like you would I thought I threw everything in here and I'm missing I'm missing I'm missing I'm missing something.
There you go. I think they may create a lower or more resistance at lower pressure. Yeah, I I would agree with that. That makes perfect sense to me. I saw one of those pins around here somewhere. You I am so unorganized.
So, so very unorganized.
I mean, I can put a bolt in it, but I don't want to because that's I had one. Where'd it go? I saw it. I seen I done seen it.
No, it's not in that pile.
If I was organized, you know how much time I would save myself?
I'm getting better. I really am. Uh that's I organized my my uh my trailer toolbox.
So I, you know, I kind of knew where everything was, but I just made it a little more or orderly. And uh I just don't know why why or why I would kind of yeet this stuff when I took things apart. That's still together. But where's that pin?
I know I have one of Oh, or I just wasn't looking at it.
Yeah, I found it. Everybody calm down. I got it. Need one of those. And I need a tiny safety pin, which I believe I have one of those in here.
Oh goodness.
You know what's nice about building this UAS ride this time around is there's no pressure. like cuz I spent so much time on the, you know, getting the the clone around and everything.
Um, I thought I had I know where there's one. Never mind.
Um, yeah, I've been spending so much time on the clone that this uh There we go. Um, that the I just been kind of gradually tinkering with this thing. I got the I got the new used uh new used spindles on this thing. Um put this through here like so.
That will give me gas when brakes.
Hey, brakes work. That's cool. Yeah.
Just been a little bit little bit little by little getting this done. I got to put the fuel tank in it. I I really don't want to cut the seat this time. I want to try and leave my seat as intact as possible. Maybe I could throw that in there now or at least get a idea.
Listen. Awesome. We were running treads for the first time. Ran slick pressures and noticed the grid for quality that the other guy was hard. Oh, yeah. Yeah, definitely. That's that, you know, very uh just looking around will tell you a lot of things. When you're even when you're sitting on the grid, you can see the sag on somebody's pressure and just kind of, you know, how fast are they on track.
When you go out, if they're just, you know, if they if you see them sitting a little higher, you see them sitting a little lower, kind of the dip in the tire, you can have somebody use with you or whatever. just kind of kind of glance at, you know, how much how much dip it is. That might give you an idea, you know, should I be down half a pound?
Should I be down a pound? Something like that. You know, am I running too much pressure, too little, you know, too too much, too little, uh, back and forth that just being aware of your surroundings, you know, it I know I say that people will help you and you can you can ask questions and stuff, but also just being aware of what's around you really does uh, a world of difference. What was I doing? Oh, yeah, the tank. Uh, I need the bracket.
So, this is I'll show you this. Um, I should probably clean this before I put it on. Maybe I'll do that. Okay, so here's here's my tank bracket. I made this out of uh Kaidex.
So, way back in uh not way back, but when I lived at my other house, that's why I say way back. Um, I was I was tinkering around with building my own holsters for things. Um, I'm not going to say that word because I don't know how sensitive YouTube is to it, but I was tinkering around with building holsters because I I'm just I guess I'm a dude's dude. Like I see things like hybrid hybrid holsters and stuff like that. I'm like, what's that made out of?
And then I do a whole bunch of research and I figure out that, oh, it's made out of kidex and how did they make those?
And then I I figured out and and they did they came out all right. They it wasn't even special, but they work. And uh getting around, you know, like trigger guards and stuff like that and doing everything properly, making sure that a draw was pretty good. Um I tinker around with that stuff and it's just I'm I'm forever liking doing stuff like that. Like my wife and my daughter and myself were discussing. We're just kind of the differences between dudes and chicks. uh guys and girls and how, you know, we're talking about being alone or whatever and how, you know, my wife could, you know, she doesn't have anything going on. She's perfectly at peace and stuff. And I'm like, she's just she doesn't need to be around people. And I'm not I'm not not a people person, but also like I'm kind of in between like the uh I can extrovert, but I'm also a little bit of an introvert.
I'm like right in between there. Meaning that as long as I have something to do, I'm fine with not being around people.
It's just, you know, I need some sort of engagement, whether that be, you know, a physical engagement or a social type of engagement. I'm I'm fine either way. Um to whereas both of them are very introverted to where they're they're just like, "Leave me alone."
But that's why I can spend hours out here in the garage no matter what it is.
I, you know, on on Monday there when we had the day off, it was just like I could relax. I could sit around and do nothing and, you know, maybe have a beer or two or something, a bourbon, if you will. Uh, but I ended up out here in the garage and I cleaned for like four hours and organized and threw stuff away and and and you know, made sure that the the clone cart was good to go. Double checked and triple checked everything.
Okay, I'm I'm ready to rock there. No problem. But it was just that like I can disappear into the garage for hours and always find something to do and and not talk with another soul and I'm perfectly okay. Matter of fact, I'm rarely ever on my phone. You know, I got some tunes kicking just doing stuff. But it's I think I got to kind of be doing something. And you know, maybe that's the the biggest uh difference between like my wife and I that she's perfectly okay. She's like, I could stare at a wall and be entertained. I'm like, I don't know about that.
For the main, we bumped to 9 PSA right and seven left. As the winner after the main, he was on 11 and 9. Yep, that that makes sense. Yep. That it just they uh they roll really good. Up racing, hey Ben, it's awesome getting to meet you, chat with you ago a few weeks ago. Never got never got to see how you did. Uh, I finished 15th.
I will, uh, so video coming Sunday. I'll just give you guys the 411 here. Um, I again, I've been through the footage. I missed a whole bunch of vlog stuff. It It just the the audio didn't record and then it recorded for some odd reason. It uh it didn't go. So, when I go to the track, I'm going to have I'm going to be hooking this thing up to the make sure that the audio is working when I go to AMS on Saturday. Anyway, I'm missing some of the vlog stuff. So, I'm going to do an intro here and just kind of say, hey, this is what's going on. Here's the the blog stuff, but it is really, you know, it's it's kind of hit or miss, you know, what what's going to be in there.
But I do have the racing. So, long story short, um I miss qualifying by one. They're taking 16 initially into the main. They run double qualifying, so you have another chance to to qualify into the main. They do it group style. Send us out 10 at a time or however many we had.
I guess they 16. We had 20. Did we have 25? So, we had nine out there. And then I went I went fastest of that n that nine. Matter of fact, I improved my my best time by like almost two ts. Um, I got down into the was it the 11second bracket, 12C bracket, whatever. Anyway, I I broke that plane, which was great.
Um, so I qualified the fast. That means I qualified 17th, started 17th, passed some carts. I think maybe a cart or two went around, whatever. Got up and I was all the way up to 13th. And I think what happened was cuz I got past towards the end, and I didn't feel like maybe my tires faded a little bit, but nothing crazy. I think what was what happened was who was ever behind Schaefer um they must have been drafting up to me because drafts at that track is a thing.
And I think I think what happened was that he must have pulled a draft on the nine and then got a shot at me because I went to turn in and he was there. So it forced me to lift and once I lifted the nine got by me too. So I would that coming across the line I finished 15th.
So I was all the way up to 13th. I got lapped last year. I got lapped in 15 laps last year because I'm just, you know, I'm I'm clone racing. I'm not a clone racer.
That was a vast improvement. Um I made it in the show last year no problem because they took everybody that it was like I think there's 21 of us or 22 of us. They just took everybody. They were going to take 20. Amen. There's two, but being there was 25 of us. We actually had to run the second set of qualifying uh the group qualifying there. And vast improvements that every every change that I did to the shatter mattered. Tire changes, chassis changes, everything I did mattered and everything improved my speed. Now, I sacrificed qualifying in 390 because I knew I just knew I wasn't gonna make that show. did not I think I turned a 126 in practice. I think fast time was uh 119 in was it in practice or qualifying something like that. So I was you know half a tenthish off. Could I have made those improvements?
Maybe. Was I going to make the show?
More than likely not. There was like 50 or 55 that were entered into the into the 390 class or 380 class. I'm sorry.
380 class. So, I sacrificed clone by go uh 380 by going out at 425 weight because I wanted to see if the changes worked and they did. I improved my time there. I knew I was on good footing going into Bqualifying uh for that. So, I got I started 17th, got all the way up to 13th, lost a couple spots at the end, but overall super happy with the with the performance. Um it really just improving on speed made me happy.
You know, everybody's there to win and you know, you just you got some people that are up there. Uh I think Pretty Leaf won it, but he was DQed for some Bolt or something like that. Um I guess I never saw who won it uh eventually after the DQ. So, um yeah, I I was just I was stoked.
What where am I running this way? Uh AMS. I'm going to Alligating Memorial Speedway this weekend. They are running the Memorial Day cuz it's backed up a week cuz of all the rain. The Memorial Day 30s and then uh right after that they're going it's a double show.
They're going to be running the uh Oh yeah, that's right. I had that bolt through. Why? Oh, cuz I was running this cloak. Um Oh, that is Is that going to work? I'm going to have to put my left on there.
Anyway, they're running a double show and I plan on running I I'm either I was talking about this a little bit earlier.
I may just run straight 400 run, you know, just one class double show. Um or I might run 400 class for the 30s and then run two classes for the regular, run the 375 just for for fun. But yeah, uh hello. What's going on? uh tinkering on the OAS ride slowly but surely now that that thing that that thing is all all good to go has been good to go. I can I can kind of get to getting on this. I guess if I just set that there, I can put the tank in just kind of get an idea. I don't want to hang it out too far to the right, but I'm willing to do it if it's if it keeps me from cutting the tank.
Oh, and this Hey, comb guys, you want to run a tank? Anybody?
Anybody want to run tank?
Two strokes are thirsty.
And it's not that I ever I I've never run out of fuel since I've started running a tank this big. But you know what? I bet you I could mount it there and just leave it. Oh, yeah. I like it.
And then I'll do I got to clean that as well. Um, yeah. I'm gonna make another mod. Do I have another one of those brackets? I'll have to make another bracket. Um, show you guys what I'm what I'm doing here so you're not completely in the dark like what is he talking about? So, this tank normally would slide all the way over here.
the way I have it set up. I used to cut my seats over on this side to allow the tank and I always hated it. So, here I'm going to get it as far as I can kind of kind of mounted there and then off this nerf bar that's under here. This nerf bar, it's dripping all everywhere.
Um, I got to clean that out, too. Uh, I'm gonna build another bracket here to stabilize this tank.
Uh, which is not going to be a problem because usually I I uh even though open motors are heavier than clone, I'm 200 lb. So, I don't have to put any weight on this cart. That's that's a plus or a negative, you know, depending on how you're thinking about it to make weight for the 250. Um, I'll be heavy already, so I can kind of scooch my my seat if I need a little more left. But chances are I I'm probably not. I got it pretty far left already. Uh, right square where it needs to be. But I think I'm just going to run this here.
And then I'm going to, like I said, I'm going to build a bracket here, just a support bracket, and that'll support this side of the tank because my my carbs are way up here. the the the filter and everything for the 250 is up here. So, I just could I mount it on the uh on the Nerf on the left? Yes. I've seen people do it. I just don't like that because you're losing balance over a run. So, if you if you go out and you need a certain amount of left and your engine is thirsty, like a two-stroke, like a Jawa, things like that. Yes, it's great balance, but the more you burn off, the more you're going to start to be loading your right side. And what if that track doesn't want that? You know, do you want to keep you? Of course you're going to burn fuel. Of course, you're going to get lighter over a run, but losing that, I'd rather lose it in the center of the cart to where it's neutral.
uh the effect, you know, rather than a left, a right, you know, mounting it up in the nose, something like that, you know, to whereas it it that that balance is going to change exponentially on your setup. I'd rather have it just more neutral. So, uh, as much as I don't want to mount the tank this far over, and I got to be careful where my right tire, I think it'll be fine, though.
I'm going to have to pay attention to that, too. I just don't want to cut the cut the seat. uh if I can help it.
I also don't like to be, you know, super I especially UAS. You want to side panels and everything like that. You want to be up there. You know what? I'm going to pop a pop a tire on here just to kind of gauge where I'm at.
Uh yes, that it's my intent if I make it. Uh this uh the beginning of the season has financially hurt me. It's going to hurt me even more once I get the uh once I get the bill for the 250.
Uh just had the bottom end checked out by somebody who's way, you know, I don't know anything about bottom ends. Um I I had uh Snappy Neck take a peek at it.
Just make sure everything's square, everything's good, everything rotates fine. He just he builds builds engines for a living, so he would know better than I. I can put a top end in it. But he he also he was just like, you know, it it it could use a new piston. And I'm like, yeah, I I agree. It could use a new piston.
We're going to pop a tire on here just to see my clearance.
If that mounts there.
Oh, Billy. We got plenty plenty of room.
I do believe we are in the Oh, yeah.
Even if it turns all the way right.
Oh yeah. Yeah, we are clear. That will work out just dandy. Excellent. Usually that's not the case with us rides.
Trying to trying to pile 10 tons of crap in a 5B bag. Yep.
That is always the case with Us.
You run 200. I could with a with a tank on a on a clone. Sure could. That probably more uh if the if the clutch and and engine will hold up.
Nice. I'm about to change head out to my shop. Got to change my oil race this weekend. Yeah, that's it's looking a lot better around here. I haven't even looked at the the weather, but everything that I've seen to this point has been really good for this weekend.
So, um it's been dry here for a couple days. That's nice. Um yeah, after all that all that Memorial Day, uh rain we got is terrible. Uh but I got my Nerf bars. That's I can slide those on there, too.
Got these down the other day. I would love to get some Kaylor custom cart Nerf bars, but I don't don't think that is in the cards right now. Uh Mac does such a good job building stuff. I love his concept. And technically technically I can weld.
Technically I could build them myself.
Uh, I don't want to though.
If somebody makes something that is just a great concept, I'd love to support them more than uh, you know, building something myself. But then again, if it comes down to it, I will. But I have these these are modified uh, boy, I got this. Sure. These are modified recon off the off the recon.
Uh, these are modified. I I cut these off and put them on standard nerf bars.
It goes in there.
That'll support the fender. Yeah.
Beautiful. Little by little. She's getting back together.
Are you running the two-day UAS show next month at PA? Uh, maybe. Um, if I have my engine back, I I'll have the I I should have the chassis pretty much done.
Now that I'm kind of tinkering on it, uh I'll probably have everything pretty much together.
By the end of next week, if I just keep on tinkering along, uh then again, I might run next Sunday. There's a uh I'll say a support show. I don't want to say a benefit. Yeah, maybe a benefit, but um I can't I'm I'm drawing a blank on the team. They're looking to go down south and race. And anyway, they're they're local and uh the proceeds from the race on Sunday are going to help them get down south for a for a event.
So, uh that's going to be at KB Speedway and that's a clone race. So, that'll also give me a chance to run Vagas and the Maxis Whites because it's a open tire track instead of a burst track. But yeah, uh I'll continue to tinker on this a little bit, but I'm going to I guess I'm going to bounce off here, guys. I I appreciate everybody coming by. Um I gotta it's late night and I I got to get in and get ready for work tomorrow and do all that shower and stuff like that.
But yeah, Sunday video is probably going to be the Sins Grove stuff. What I have of it, I think it'll it'll turn out okay. Um better than nothing. And then uh the following week should be the AMS vlog. If I don't screw that up. Uh but yeah, thank you very much everybody for stopping by. I I'm going to end the stream a little early tonight, but yeah, I got I got to get ready for for bed and stuff like that. So, thank you everybody for stopping by and uh I'll see you next week.
