The unexpected surge of water submerged farmlands and homes, covering an estimated 250 acres of land and forcing about 60 families to evacuate as crops were destroyed and properties damaged. Many residents say the water appeared without warning and continued to spread, leaving parts of the area uninhabitable. Local authorities and environmental experts have since been deployed to the scene to determine the cause of the unusual groundwater eruption and to assess the full extent of the damage. Officials and scientists, however, stress that investigations are still ongoing and no confirmed cause has yet been established for the flooding in Buringo.
