Greek Revival houses from the early 1700s featured windows on the first floor that could function as doors, creating cross-drafts with front and back doors positioned directly across from each other to maintain cool indoor temperatures (around 70°F) during hot summer months.

Hidden Feature at the Callaway Plantation: Every Window on the 1st Floor was a DoorAdded:
Cuz the Greek Revival came into architectural style during the early 1700s. These windows were actually designed to open up. They're only on the front of the house or what would have been attached to a porch. So, when they entertained, they could also expand the room for guests. It also helped with how air flowed through the house. Because not only would your front door and back door be directly across from each other, but if you'll look, your doors are directly across from each other and have two windows on each side, so it would create these cross drafts that actually kept these house cool. And this house stayed very cool in the summertime.
It'll stay at least 70° in here without getting any hot.
