Appalachia Wildlife Video 2026-29 of AS THE RIDGE TURNS: The Foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains

[00:00:00]This week on As the Ridge Turns, the animals [music] are relaxing in this heat what they can stand in the little ponds and moving around.

[00:00:10]But, so is these old coyotes doing today.

[00:00:13]And Billy Bob showed up this week.

[00:00:17]>> [music] [music] >> Welcome, friend.

[00:00:35]Welcome to the foothills of the Smokies.

[00:00:37]Another [music] chapter of As the Ridge Turns here in East Tennessee.

[00:00:42]The heat is absolutely been hot.

[00:00:45]And we've had a little bit of rain, but it's been close to 100° a few days.

[00:00:52]And man, ain't it been hot. I hope y'all staying cool out there and taking care of y'all self.

[00:00:58]And we've had a little bit of rain, >> [music] >> but it just makes it so much hotter.

[00:01:03]But, the little animals is slowed down a lot in this heat, but they're still moving around.

[00:01:10]And they're enjoying their self, but they don't enjoy this heat.

[00:01:17]And down here at the old pond, it's just a swamp, the sinkhole.

[00:01:22]The animals still love it, but you can't hardly see them, but they're there.

[00:01:27]So, I hope you enjoy yourself.

[00:01:29]Throw your feet up, get your favorite drink, and relax, >> [music] >> and let's see what did step in front of the cameras this week.

[00:01:45]And the little young bucks is running around up here on the ridge trying to beat the heat.

[00:01:58]And the little fawns, too, just following Mommy around through this ridge.

[00:02:04]But, it's so hot on them.

[00:02:11]And they're just trying to survive, learn the ropes, especially just learning how to run run away from these dangers.

[00:02:28]And some of the does, you don't see the fawns. I don't know if they're hiding them or what.

[00:02:36]But, some of them have just been born not long.

[00:02:39]They're late this year, but they're beautiful.

[00:02:49]And the old coyotes, old Charlie bobbed out there in the day, he don't never ease up on them.

[00:02:59]And the old turkey, they are sluggish. They don't like this heat whatsoever. I can't say I blame them.

[00:03:06]They just do what they got to do.

[00:03:13]And here's a turkey Mommy with a few of her babies as growing up, but stepped in front of the camera.

[00:03:22]And there's another glimpse of old y'all.

[00:03:27]He's still hanging in there.

[00:03:34]And the old dirty Dan clan moving around.

[00:03:39]They still got to find something to eat, though.

[00:03:44]And the little wood thrush got him something, taking it back to the nest.

[00:03:52]And the little blue jays running around on the ground.

[00:04:02]And there's a little rabbit.

[00:04:04]They live hard in these woods, too many predators.

[00:04:13]And down at the acorn pile, all of them doing the day was a little squirrel.

[00:04:17]Just passing through.

[00:04:19]Prowling.

[00:04:22]Down at the salt block.

[00:04:26]Deer's always down here, anytime of day or night.

[00:04:31]But they're real sluggish, they ain't moving around as good as they was.

[00:04:35]Just too hot on them.

[00:04:37]But they still come to the salt block.

[00:04:43]And enjoy this tasty little treat.

[00:04:49]And the little young bucks still around, too.

[00:04:58]And they're growing their antlers back.

[00:05:01]All kinds of different configurations.

[00:05:07]But they're watching out for them coyotes.

[00:05:13]I just hope they don't get to farms.

[00:05:20]And the little blue jay down here at the stump. Seems like it's just normal stop for him.

[00:05:26]And a little wren.

[00:05:28]He loves this little stump. He's always down here, seems like.

[00:05:32]Enjoying his morning.

[00:05:36]And a little wood thrush stops by.

[00:05:41]Beautiful little songbird.

[00:05:47]And a deer passing through through But the little squirrels, they always here.

[00:06:01]Digging, prowling, searching.

[00:06:05]And they find them something to eat on.

[00:06:07]Hop up here and eat their little lunch.

[00:06:16]And out to cut, that looks like a little mourning dove passing through.

[00:06:25]And the dirty dancing clan up here prowling.

[00:06:29]Making their way up the ridge.

[00:06:38]And the little young bucks use this all the time.

[00:06:44]>> [laughter] >> This is a crossing point between the field and the ridge.

[00:06:54]It's a natural natural pathway through these rocks.

[00:07:03]And there's a little twins working their way down the field.

[00:07:09]Off the ridge.

[00:07:12]Ain't they precious?

[00:07:15]And they're growing.

[00:07:17]And here at the old log like a a deer passing through in the background.

[00:07:25]And a little fawn.

[00:07:31]Just making her making her round.

[00:07:35]But old Ricky stops by to say hi every once in a while.

[00:07:40]And moves on.

[00:07:44]And up in the tree, a raccoon during the day as hot as it is. I don't understand that.

[00:07:54]But the third day clan just come and go.

[00:08:00]From the rock motel.

[00:08:03]And up the rock motel, little wren, little bird.

[00:08:09]And a little squirrel is passing through.

[00:08:13]Can't tell if it's Ricky or not.

[00:08:18]And the little ground squirrels, they love this place, too.

[00:08:22]Then they have to say hi.

[00:08:30]And they're just curious.

[00:08:34]What's that cam?

[00:08:39]But old dude today ends up moving around. Him and his clan.

[00:08:44]You can't tell which is which anymore, hardly.

[00:08:48]But they enjoy the patio.

[00:08:51]These old hot days.

[00:08:53]Just try to take it easy and relax.

[00:09:00]Stir around a little bit.

[00:09:05]But they come down.

[00:09:08]Check things out and relax on the patio.

[00:09:11]That's what it's all about.

[00:09:15]At the back door.

[00:09:17]There's one early one morning passing through.

[00:09:24]And that looks like a little striped lizard there on the rock.

[00:09:29]Chasing bugs.

[00:09:35]And down at the pond.

[00:09:37]Little squirrel browsing in the leaves.

[00:09:42]And the young buck down here.

[00:09:47]They've done went through all these blackberries.

[00:09:50]They're all gone.

[00:09:52]They didn't even wait for them to get black, most of them.

[00:10:01]And on the other camera, you could see it just weeds during the day.

[00:10:05]But I did feed them a little at night.

[00:10:07]You just can't see them.

[00:10:10]Come dark.

[00:10:11]Ah, the old [ __ ] is coming out of the den tree. There's old no tail passing through.

[00:10:17]>> [sighs] >> And they got to say hi every once in a while.

[00:10:25]Curious animals, these coons.

[00:10:29]Check things out. What's new?

[00:10:34]And move on.

[00:10:37]>> [sighs] >> And a deer.

[00:10:41]Everything's just so hot. They're just kind of sluggish now. It looks like a mommy doe.

[00:10:47]But where's her baby? Is she hiding her or just don't I I just wasn't in the picture.

[00:10:53]But they're there.

[00:10:57]And there's a fox. That's pretty your baby.

[00:11:01]The coyotes keep them run off. But they're here, too.

[00:11:06]And there's old Billy Bob, the bobcat.

[00:11:10]You see the white at the back of his ears and that bob tail.

[00:11:15]He don't show up all the time.

[00:11:18]And a little young buck eating the leaves off of these old trees that fell off.

[00:11:25]They just browse through.

[00:11:35]>> Moving across the ridge.

[00:11:40]Wherever they happen to mosey to.

[00:11:47]And down to salt block.

[00:11:49]Deer down here at night, does, bucks, too.

[00:11:53]But they're not as active as they were.

[00:11:58]And down to stump.

[00:12:00]Deer passing through.

[00:12:08]And a curious little [ __ ] Just curious what's up here, what's new.

[00:12:14]Moving on.

[00:12:17]Down to cut.

[00:12:20]And a [ __ ] family moving through.

[00:12:28]Walking at night by.

[00:12:31]And up the tree.

[00:12:33]A deer browsing through in the night.

[00:12:39]And the [ __ ] Always on the search.

[00:12:50]Always on the prowl.

[00:12:54]And up at the rock, all filmed at night, was a [ __ ] That's it.

[00:13:00]Just glimpses of a [ __ ] going through.

[00:13:03]Just too hot, they ain't stirring.

[00:13:06]And up at the ridge.

[00:13:08]There's a deer passing through in the night.

[00:13:15]Not much stirring.

[00:13:18]And a little [ __ ] going across the ridge. I'd say he's heading towards the pond.

[00:13:24]Didn't film no skunks this week or no adult possums.

[00:13:29]Down at the pond, there's no tail prowling in the leaves.

[00:13:34]They're going after them bugs.

[00:13:37]And there's Scar in the background.

[00:13:42]Digging in them leaves for them bugs.

[00:13:47]And it looks like a wet morning night.

[00:13:52]Those does back there prowling around looking for them blackbirds.

[00:13:56]And there's a bobcat right in front of the camera.

[00:14:00]He's so close.

[00:14:03]And he's pretty.

[00:14:05]And you can tell there is his bobtail.

[00:14:08]Dead giveaway.

[00:14:12]Down the other camera.

[00:14:15]Here's a little young baby possum getting bugs off the weeds.

[00:14:24]Little little bitty thing.

[00:14:28]Here comes.

[00:14:30]He trying to get him some bugs off these weeds.

[00:14:35]He knows they're there. He's just trying to get them.

[00:14:42]And he's working hard at it, too.

[00:14:51]Back up down here at the pond. Looks like a thrasher in the leaves here.

[00:14:55]Prowling.

[00:14:56]And across the ridge a little squirrel is up at daylight getting an early start in this cooler part of the day.

[00:15:07]And the deer.

[00:15:14]Just trying to find another day of something to eat on.

[00:15:21]And at the south block the does and the The does and the bucks together down here. Down.

[00:15:30]They share.

[00:15:35]And the deer just browse these woods for these little tasty treats of leaves.

[00:15:42]And a little pond.

[00:15:46]Ain't they precious?

[00:15:51]And time for the little squirrels.

[00:15:55]They start their day out, too.

[00:15:59]But they got to watch out for all these hawks and predators.

[00:16:05]But they enjoy their self and they're so comical.
