While the archival ambition for the "Wilderness Years" is commendable, the 2028 release window makes this more of a speculative exercise than a definitive news update. It perfectly captures the obsessive, long-game nature of modern fandom preservation.

We Are Definitely Getting A Wilderness Years Collection BoxsetAdded:
Hey guys, Proble1701 here and good news for people looking forward to a Doctor Who Wilderness yet wilderness years set. I think this little post here from Gordon I think is a just another good confirmation that we are eventually going to get a Wilderness set. Gordon is kind of like the guy on the Doctor Who merchandise forum that's just really seems in the know on this stuff. usually uh when he has information it's usually pretty legit.
Uh so he's he's kind of that guy when he posts something everybody's like [laughter] and he has this to say we are 100% getting a wilderness year set. Uh Paul I have trouble with Paul's last name.
Venez I have trouble with his last name.
Set on Gal of Fray base a widescreen version of the TV movie is and I quote under consideration for inclusion on a wilderness year set although that is a long way off.
So there is a possibility of a wilderness year set under consideration for a wilderness year set. Paul of course being heavily involved with these things. Uh now I don't I'm not a member of Gal of Fray base but if Gordon is saying that was said there then that was said there.
So and then Gordon talks a little bit here. Uh Paul does stress that a widescreen version is only under consideration and depending on agreements with all relevant parties and budget. So it's not a given at this point. He adds personally I don't think they are done with the TV movie. There's a couple of new featurettes and a Jeffrey Sachs conversation listed for the 4K, but understandably there really wasn't a huge budget for significant extras and other things, keeping in mind probably so much of that budget went into the actual restoration, rightfully so. and the wilderness uh years set and what or whatever it ultimately ends up being called seems like the perfect opportunity to get an extended version with maybe new effects behind the sofa man interview film rushes and other things for the TV movie. That set could easily be three disc alone just for the TV movie stuff. A lot of people wondering what all they could put on a Wilderness Years box set. I've already done a video talking about that in the past [clears throat] from a list that Gordon specifically outlined when I asked him about it. Um, I wouldn't rule out dimensions and time.
They have been able to use footage in the shows last year, the footage of Ko Mara. And I believe things are easier to clear. Plus, it would be great for disc one as a centerpiece of the pre-TV movie disc and the 30th anniversary portion of the set for anyone wondering about dimensions and time. There does seem to be belief that maybe they have relaxed restrictions on that. There are several things that could potentially go on a wilderness year set. Again, I talked about that in another video. From Colonel F, uh, Case of Fatal Death to some of the BBV real time stuff, uh, Big Finish at the time, the Paul Mcan version of Shada. I mean, there there's a lot of room. Scream of the sha, the death comes to time, uh, real time, the six doctor animation. There there's a lot you could do with that. Uh Gordon also asked the reason it was mentioned was because there was a discussion about how disappointing uh there wasn't a widescreen option on the upcoming 4K release. Secondly, there wasn't neither the time or the budget available to produce a version for this new release.
Also, he does stress it's not a guarantee. It's probably a good three to four years away minimum even if it does happen, which of course a long way off as he says is what Paul says. So, hearing from Paul that there plans to be a wilderness year set, um I think that's a pretty strong confirmation. I've believed for a long time that we would get a wilderness year set. I've said that many times on the channel. Uh the way the season 26 booklet ends, the booklet of course that came again with the 20 season 26 box set implies a future set, like a wilderness year set, whatever they want to call it. Um, and then some of the stuff that could have been released on other sets but would fit in better on a wilderness year set wasn't released with those other sets. And the only place that makes sense for them to be released would be on a wilderness year set. I've seen a lot of people talking about that and it just seems odd not to want to have a set that would have man on the cover. So you call car you cover all of the classic era besides just the classic show specifically since pretty much everything up through 2004 seems to be considered classic who at this point so you could have man on the cover there.
So I firmly believe for a long time we would get a wilderness year set. Um and I still think that's the case especially with this news. I don't think we'll get it anytime soon. Uh, I think when the 4K comes out, which I believe later this month, uh, I believe there will at least be that 18-month window, uh, where this the standalone edition will have, um, its chance to shine. Uh, I honestly wouldn't think we'd see it for at least two years, minimum. At least two years. So maybe sometime in 2028 minimum for a wilderness year set. you know, maybe they would release it if they needed more time to get some of the 60s sets better done, be it with maybe more recovered episodes hopefully or more animations hopefully uh at that time.
But I just saw this and wanted to share it with you guys because I of course really want a wilderness year set. I'm sure a lot of you do as well. So, I want to know what you think. Huge shout out to Gordon. I don't I don't know if he watches my channel or not, but huge shout out to Gordon. I appreciate him uh posting this information. I appreciate everything he does for the Doctor Who merchandise forum and everything he does. Uh just for the fandom in general.
Uh he's a fountain of useful information. So it's it's it's always great when he posts. I want to give uh a shout out to some of my top tier patrons. Colin Coney, Unknown 289, uh Finn Perkins and Anderson Major. I appreciate their support as I do the support of all of my patrons. All the other fun stuff.
