In the May 25, 1942 Pacific campaign, the sinking of the USS Hornet and USS Yorktown dramatically shifted the strategic balance, as the loss of these carriers eliminated 80% of their fighter complement and removed critical naval assets, allowing the attacking force to achieve air superiority and secure key positions like Port Blair.

I Heard Sinking Sounds... What Could It Be??? | 25 May 42 - War in the Pacific (Italian v. Heiden)Añadido:
Hey everybody, it's Yoken Heiden and I'm back with the Italian versus Hiden campaign. It's May 25th, 1942.
Man, I'm still chasing that hornet. I just don't think we're going to catch up to it though. He's he's just getting away and it's driving me nuts because I really wanted to sink that thing.
And my subs suck as always. Hopefully we don't lose another one. Yeah, we get away. Look at these juicy targets we just can't hit.
Oh, right there. Right there. See that green thing? That's the hornet, guys.
That is it.
It's just getting away from me. It's just slipping away, man. I just want to sink the hornet.
These juicy battleships. We just can't get them. It's killing me.
I 28 takes a lot of hits. Once again, we just can't get in there.
Uh oh.
All right. Another bombardment going into Melbourne. Not much to make of that. Eh, it's whatever.
Oh, it's so close. Look, I know that's the hornet. It's right there. I know it is.
I just can't get it. Just can't get it.
Oh, I know what's in there. I I know what's in there. Dang it.
Man, come on.
Just can't get it, man. I just want to sink the horn head.
Oh, man.
All these juicy targets.
Oh, my subs are hitting stuff. I mean, my my um my planes are hitting subs. That's a good thing cuz I think these guys are getting blasted right now.
Oo, that's a big raid.
Yeah, dude. Look at that. Ripping him up. By the time he goes across this river, he'll be done for.
Yeah. Pour it in, guys. Pour it in.
Good.
Oh man.
Oh, that sub is dead, dude. He got hit a lot today.
Yeah, it's gone.
>> I wouldn't be shocked if we didn't hear a subsyncing sound soon.
H. All right.
Well, one of my sub just sank. That's not good.
I was hoping to hear maybe what his sub sinking, man. What's just sink now?
Wouldn't that be cool if it was the hornet? I doubt it, though. My luck's not that good. But something sank and it wasn't anything. I hit this turn.
>> Five.
>> Get out.
>> Get out of there. Get out.
>> One.
All right, guys. Here we go. Deliberate attack of Melbourne. Let's see how this goes here. All right, so pay close attention to his AV here.
Man, he's still pretty strong.
He's really strong here still, man. We're not even putting a dent in them.
Wow. Yeah. Yikes.
O, that's not pretty, guys.
Yeah, I'm going to call that a bad result.
This is not what I was hoping for. We hardly did any damage to him.
Holy crap. Like this is not this is not good.
We didn't even drop a fort.
Oh, this is worse than our first attack and he was stronger then. He still has 3,400 AV here. God dang.
Look at all this garbage in here.
Not great, but this is looking better.
All right, that's good, guys. We're working our way towards Kunming, and that's okay. Um, the Operation Chinese Finger Trap is moving right along, and I'm liking it.
Okay, I'm bombarding a Kienko here just to kind of see how he's looking. He looks weak.
1,099 AV. But the problem is is that none of these guys have supply. None of them. So they're basically throwing rocks and twigs at us.
If I can kill these guys whenever I want.
Okay. Bombardment of lang.
Oh man. Not really doing much to him here, are we?
Okay. Allied shock attack. I kind of knew this was coming. This is a suicide attack. He's just trying to kill these units off because look at their AV.
Their adjusted AV is essentially zero.
36 AV. All those troops, that's all he's got in there. 36 AV.
And as you can see, it's just an absolute suicide uh squad there. They don't get anything done. He's just trying to kill them off.
Chinese are so brutal to their own people. That's why they need the the Greater East Asia co-rossperity sphere to take them over. You know, that's what we're trying to do.
Nice.
All right, guys. Let's take a look at this. See what we did today.
Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa.
Whoa.
Bro, BRO. DUDE, THAT'S THE HORNET. WE JUST S THE HORNET. OH. OH. OH, SHOOT. GUYS, this is the hornet. I know.
That sinking sound we heard. That was the hornet. That's the hornet.
I know what it is. I know why. Here's why. I know that the Hornet when it sails when it comes on the map it has these old SBC4 Hell divers. Okay. And now look at this Albaore and Martlet.
These are Royal Navy planes. He threw these on the Hornet to beef up their cap.
These martlets. These martlets are basically F4Fs that are British. And in Albaors are their torpedo bombers. Dude, we just smoked a Hornet. HOLY CRAP. OH SHOOT.
OH, GUYS, that is awesome. Hey, and and last turn, I don't know if I mentioned it or not. I don't remember now, but the we got confirmation that the York count sank last turn. So, we've sunk two carriers in two turns.
Well, okay, let me rephrase that. We've sunk um um we've sunk two carriers, period. So, the Yorktown definitely sank. um confirmed.
Uh this was confirmed yesterday. Uh I don't think the Enterprise sank. I don't buy that at all.
Uh Saratoga Lexington, we didn't sink them, but we hit them both. So Saratoga and the Lexington, I believe, have taken torpedoes. Enterprise took some bomb damage. So uh all of his American carriers are damaged or sunk right now.
This is huge.
Yorktown, Hornet are dead and the other three are damaged. And Saratoga is probably pretty heavily damaged. It took a torpedo.
I think it did, didn't it?
I don't know. Shoot.
Either way, um, that's incredible. I'm I'm I'm just stoked about this. Wow, guys. My subs went from being complete garbage to to rock stars. That hit on the Hornet has completely changed the tone of this campaign. All right, let's go around the map. Man, I'm so sorry. I'm just really excited here. Okay, so we're going after this sub and I don't think it's going to make it out, guys. My my sub hunters are just ripping and tearing right now.
Let's see these guys. These guys are getting some action.
And then even these guys are hitting it.
So, that sub is probably taking heavy damage here.
All right. Okay. Let's look at China.
So, he did a little suicide operation here. Didn't work well because this division is fully in supply. Dug in. You name it. Ain't going to hurt us. I'm probably going to take this tank regiment and divert them around this way to close that hexite to trap him in here. And then I still have the 12th army which goes into this hex next turn.
And then it goes down here to close these guys in. And they're finished.
He's got 1100 AV here, but it's it's depleted and out of supply. And when we close the hex side, it seals the deal.
All right, over here. Operation Chinese finger trap is looking really good. We continue to push him in two directions, right? So, we're coming down the road from Pawan into Su Yong, and I have my armored uh vanguard and infantry division streaming down this way.
Um, and then hopefully we take Kunming quickly and get up here and take all these bases out. And then that's going to really change the the landscape of the Chinese campaign when I have all these bases secured. So, this is looking good.
Okay, Burma's nothing really happening.
Night the night bombing window starts today, so I do have to be worried about that a little bit. I'm going to start configuring for night bombing and hopefully it goes well for us this time.
Okay, so we sank the Hornet, guys, and it happened around here somewhere. I I don't know exactly where it sank, but it sank in this area. We damaged it over here a few days ago near Port Blair with a single torpedo hit that caused a fuel explosion. And apparently what happened there was we we caused so much damage to the ship that it was not able to fly the aircraft off because if the if the system damage or the fires get to a certain level the aircraft can't fly. So those martlets, the albakors, the the hell divers and the um the wild cats were stuck on the ship and apparently it just kept getting worse and worse and worse. We never really got eyes on it again, but it was as it was limping back towards Salon, it just finally sank this turn. That that sound we heard, that sinking sound had to be the Hornet cuz nothing else would have made sense. But this is crazy. We got the Hornet, guys. He brought it out here, which I think is I don't it's whatever. I know why he was using it to bulk this up, and it did actually fulfill its mission in as much as that it allowed him to take Port Blair. We weren't able to do much about it.
So that is what it is. But that changes the balance of power substantially out here. Like with the Hornet gone and 80 of those fighters dead, I now have I have enough long a land-based air now to challenge any further operations at Port Blair. We could just overwhelm him with with aircraft.
Even from Rangon, I mean like he doesn't have enough carrier deck space to carry fighters to do anything about it. So wow. Yorktown last turn confirmed sunk and now the hornet sunk. That really changes everything for me.
All right, still working on Mang.
Nothing much to say about this.
All right, Melbourne. Boy, that attack did not go well at all.
So, check this out, guys. 54th Division absolutely blasted. like it lost a lot like a lot a lot. It's the TOE is down to 40 82%.
With only 42 of it actually uh 48% of it alive.
This division is going to be down for a long time because not only do we have a lot of disabled squads, we're missing over a hundred of the infantry squads. A lot of men died today.
This tank regimen also blasted. Um, and the some of these divisions look mostly okay, but man, that was not a good attack for us this turn.
And it kind of is what it is, guys. I don't I don't really I can't do anything more than I'm doing. These stupid stacking limits are killing me, right? I can only get 160,000 troops in the hex.
And we're always flirting with that number and we start taking degradations when we go over this. So, I can't cram a lot of troops in here. But he has so much AV and he's got forts and he's got urban heavy terrain. Everything is stacking against me here and I just can't get ahead of it. This is just gonna take forever. It's a long attrition battle. Um and I don't know how much supply he's got in here, but it's probably a lot. Like more than Clark Field and Baton ever had on the Philippines. Probably over 100,000 supply at some point when he went in here. So this is just going to take a while and we're going to take a lot of losses. that when this does fall, between the base points, 2,300 base points, and the army loss points, this is basically the entire Australian army is here crammed into one hex. When this thing dies, this is going to be a epic point haul. I'm talking couple thousand army loss points or more. and we basically wipe out the entire Australian army that's not coming from Aiden and reinforced from like Europe back to here. There's a couple Australian divisions floating around out here somewhere, but the bulk of them are here and when they die, they're they're not really coming back because they won't be able to respawn on the map because we own the base that they belong to. I don't think they can even come back on the map and unless unless he retakes the base. Either way, we eliminate this gigantic threat from us, right? So, that means now his only offensive power is going to be the American army here going in in a one direction kind of thing. He's not going to be able to use the Australian army to attack like go up into the Solomons and all that from another threat vector because we've we've compressed it here and they just can't be they're not going anywhere and there's no way for him to get break jailbreak these guys. They're they're done for. It's just going to take a while to reduce them. But yeah, it's worth it guys. Whatever it cost, I'll grind whatever grist the mill requires to get this done because this is going to be epic when it finally does fall.
Okay. So, clearly um he's bringing in reinforcements or he's doing something here. Uh and he's brought in land-based air. So, I don't even know if I want to attack here. I think I'm getting kind of close to the point where I might be calling back my subs because we're just losing a lot of subs out here and I don't know if it if we're getting any real gain for it. The last important hit we really got in here was hitting the Saratoga or Lexington, whatever the heck it was.
But I think we need to start wrapping this up and consolidating, repairing these subs, and just getting ready for the next evolution. Now, I see this here.
My guess is that, let's see, northeast.
This is either coming out of Suba or going back to Pearl perhaps. This could be a bunch of damaged ships that he's packed up and shipping out of here. I'm just going to let him go because I don't have time to chase him and I I really want to focus on defense now and trying to keep up with this task force and intercepting it going into Pearl would be very very hard because he he may not just go the normal way. He could route around this way. He can go this way because I'm sure he may be expecting a sub threat somewhere somewhere around here. So, he's not it's going to be hard to track these guys. So, I'm not even going to bother. I'm going to focus on taking him out when he comes to us. And I'm not going to chase him anymore. He's got to come to us now, guys. This Fiji is going to fall no matter what. Nadi's done for these 4,000 troops here on on I'm going to keep trying to evacuate some, but these 4,000 troops here are just not going to make it, but what we got out of here was worth it. And now I want to focus on building up this defensive area cuz he has to cross this whole ocean here to go anywhere near us. And then I've got carriers and I've got battleships, heavy cruisers, destroyers, 30 subs that I can send at him, plus all of the land base there on New Calonia.
That's an epic journey for him to make.
And guys, he's down the Yorktown out here. The Lexington is damaged. The Saratoga is damaged. The Enterprise is damaged. So, what is he going to actually escort these guys with? I don't even know. So, he's going to have to wait for weeks and months for those carriers to get fixed to even have a chance of coming back at us. And we have more carriers than he does. All said and done, I've got what? Two here.
I got uh one there, three.
I got fiveish carriers around here. Five.
Yeah, six. I have six carriers plus another two on the way. So, even if he had all three of those damaged carriers back in the fight, I could just overwhelm him.
I can't wait, guys. We're in such a good position now. This whole Fiji operation was so worth it. And Yorktown was sunk and the Hornet was sunk.
I am I'm floating on Cloud9, guys, and I hope you are too. This was an epic monumental victory for us. Not strategic. Well, may actually be strategic. I don't know. It was a big win, and we should be proud of that. All right, guys. I'm going to go ahead and go to bed now. It's getting late, but I hope you enjoy this video. I'm going to put some fun editing into this one because uh I'm really excited. All right, I'll catch you on the next one. Bye-bye.
