In high-stakes situations involving potential assassination or capture, strategic escape tactics often involve creating false assumptions about one's vulnerability to allow for escape. In this episode, when Maomao and Master Jinshi are attacked during a hunting expedition, Master Jinshi deliberately leaps from a 50-meter waterfall, leading attackers to believe he cannot survive the fall and thus retreat. This demonstrates how understanding an opponent's assumptions about survival can be leveraged for escape, even when the actual survival probability is low.

Mao Mao Story Season 2 Episode 11 English Dub ReactionAdded:
If you've a mind to thin the Imperial bloodline, you might want to consider diluting it with this one here. You really should hide your favorites better, or [music] someone else may hide them from you.
Good morning. What is first?
Are you ready for tomorrow, Gaoshun?
Yes, >> [music] >> we are set.
So then Hey everyone, welcome back to Festival Beats. Last episode pushed things even further when Maomao discovered inconsistencies in the palace seal registry, pointing toward deliberate tampering by someone with high-level access.
At the same time, another poisoning attempt nearly succeeded during a banquet, targeting attendants close to Lady Gyokuyou.
Jinshi personally intervened, which shows just how critical the situation has become.
Now in episode 11, I think Maomao will finally confront the possibility that a high-ranking official is orchestrating everything from within the palace.
If that's true, exposing them won't just be dangerous, it could destabilize the entire court.
And with Jinshi stepping in more directly, we might see his true authority come into play.
Let's see if Maomao is ready to face what's really behind all of this.
All that we have left is the girl. If she is traveling on this expedition, I doubt it'll be possible to hide it from her. Yes, I know.
I intend to tell the apothecary the entire story in person during the trip.
About my true status.
Maomao, you're being summoned. Hm?
Excuse me.
Lady Gyokuyou, how may I be of service?
Well, believe it or not, someone else has called for you. Are you surprised?
Hm.
And how may I serve you today?
For the next several days, I would like you to return this one to me.
Return her?
I am on loan until Lady Gilky gives birth. So, technically, I'm only back in the Jade Pavilion as a special assignment.
Oh, one moment. Who will act as my food taster while she's gone?
>> I'll loan you my servant woman.
I'm sure she is trustworthy. Of course.
A few days, you say. Would you be planning a trip somewhere? I was invited on a hunting party by someone I can't turn down. Such people exist? It was requested by Master Shishou. If that's the case, your hands are tied.
So then, you wish to borrow my Meow Meow while you're away. Well, technically, you're returning her. But why does it have to be Meow Meow? All of my ladies are capable.
I'm sure.
But that girl will be more than sufficient. Oh, wait. Whichever one did you mean? I'm confused. I just told you.
Funny how you keep referring to her as that girl.
A slight turn of phrase.
Gaoshun? Yes?
I'm curious. What do you call Meow Meow?
For me, Shaomao.
Well, surely you have a cute one you use, like Meow Meow. The story unfolds with Nanz Ti preparing for a hunting excursion. And for reasons that are not entirely obvious at first, he insists on bringing the young apothecary girl along with him.
South Duan, ever cautious, feels a lingering unease about this decision.
He worries that the girl, Meow Meow, might uncover Nanz Ti's true identity if she stays too close for too long.
Yet the irony lies in the fact that Nanz Ti himself has already made up his mind.
This trip is not just a casual outing, but an opportunity.
He has been quietly turning over two pieces of advice in his mind, words that have refused to fade.
One came from the old master, who once told the emperor that if he wished to dilute the imperial bloodline, he could simply take that little servant girl into his side.
The other came from the Empress Dowager, who warned him that anything he treasures but fails to keep close will inevitably be taken by someone else.
These thoughts have lingered, shaping his intentions more than he would care to admit.
With that resolve, he visits the Jade Palace to request that Nok Deep Phi temporarily return Nu Nu to him.
The phrasing of return causes Nu Nu to recall that she had originally been bought out of the Verdigris House by Nam Tea, only loaned to the consort until her safe childbirth.
He explains that during their absence, his own attendants will handle poison testing duties, as he has been invited to a hunting event hosted by Tu Zon and cannot easily refuse.
Nok Deep Phi questions whether it is truly necessary to take Nu Nu, pointing out that she has other capable attendants.
However, Nam Tea in Come to think of it, he never has called me by my name before. Not that I mind, but why is Master Jinshi so uncomfortable?
>> [laughter] >> Lady Gyokuyo tortured him for 30 minutes before granting him permission.
Lee, our country, the character used to write its name depicts the story of its founding.
Three swords under grass.
Grass stands for flower, representing the mother royal, ancestor of the emperor.
The three swords beneath represent the three warriors who helped her.
Of these blades, the larger one represents the great northern lands, known as Shi Okushu.
That entire area grows sorghum and wheat.
If you go further north, you enter a mountainous region.
Hey, are you even listening?
It's all so fascinating.
Then maybe you would care to explain where we're going, huh?
North is called the Shi Okushu.
It's controlled by Lord Shi Show's clan.
He invited Master Jinshi here.
So they're using the event as an excuse to coax him onto his own turf.
He couldn't get the emperor to come, but it's still supposed to be quite the roster.
Why did my father insist on bringing you along? Father? That's interesting.
Apparently, this man is Master Gaoshun's son.
>> [snorts] >> His father was invited as a guest in his own right, so Master Baosen will serve as Master Jinshi's attendant.
It's not as if eunuchs are born that way.
It makes sense he would have a son, given his age.
We are nearly there.
Wow.
With its high altitude and chilly weather, this is the late emperor's favorite yearly summer resort.
The imperial family hasn't visited during the current emperor's reign, >> [music] >> but Master Shi Show's clan continues to manage the area.
So this is where we're staying.
The room is warm, way [snorts] too stuffy.
And that aside, what's with this man's idea of lounging?
I know he's probably more tired than usual, but come on.
Is that a mask?
I suppose with his looks, hiding his beauty is imperative.
And what should I call you while we're here? Use my usual name indoors.
While outside, Kosen. insists with quiet firmness, saying that simply having the girl returned is sufficient.
The tension between them thickens the air, leaving everyone present feeling uneasy.
When Nong Deep Fei presses him further, asking exactly which girl he is referring to, Nong Ti finally glances toward Mu Mu and identifies her indirectly, never once saying her name.
This makes Nong Deep Fei laugh, amused that he has avoided calling her by name the entire time.
It is only then that Mu Mu realizes that he has never once addressed her directly by name before.
To her, it seems trivial, but his awkwardness suggests otherwise.
Hong Nong nudges her as if to point out something significant, yet Mu Mu remains completely oblivious.
In the end, after much back and forth that feels almost like a verbal battle, Nong Deep Fei relents, though not without thoroughly overwhelming Nong Ti in the exchange.
As the journey begins, the narrative briefly shifts to the history of the land they inhabit, a country known as La.
The name itself carries symbolic weight, composed of elements that reference its founding legend.
The upper component represents the royal matriarch, while the three blade-like strokes below symbolize the three generals who once stood beside her.
The largest stroke refers to Tu Bac Chau, a vast northern territory.
Beyond it lie mountainous regions where crops like sorghum and wheat are cultivated.
This explanation is given by Ma Thiim, though Mu Mu, half asleep during the ride, absorbs very little of it.
Their destination is Tu Bac Chau, a region not directly governed Master Cosin, understood.
That's strange. Do you do this whenever you travel?
Oh, on that subject.
By the way, you were invited as a guest, too, right, Master Gushuin?
I was, yes.
In that case, why was he assigned to the same building?
Usually, it seems like there's a different rank between these two. We are from the Ma Clan. We have served Cosin's family for generations. Of course, we'd be placed in the same building.
I see.
So, Master Jinshi does come from a noble family.
>> [gasps] >> Father, what is going on here?
Could it really be that she You are right. Shiao knows nothing of the matter.
But, Master Jinshi will inform her presently.
You must stay quiet until then.
>> Do you think it's really wise letting her I'm completely normal.
Anyway, I guess I'll help unpack and clean up. I just know Lady Suireau will lecture me later if I don't work hard.
The atmosphere's livelier with the partying.
So, why is he hiding away in this room?
Um, don't you think we could at least open a few windows? Leave them closed.
Just taste the food for now.
Then, you'll understand.
Is this soft-shell turtle? That's what they tell us.
The aperitif is strong, but they're trying to hide that fact by adding fruit juice.
It's incredible, from the sides to the desserts.
This all seems really rather invigorating, actually.
Well, you see.
Preserved food?
So, you're not eating? This isn't poisoned. Even if it is safe, I must still abstain.
It'll look suspicious if no one touches the meal, so would you like me to eat it instead?
Do as you like.
Um Well, then, is it all tasty?
It's delicious.
The other dishes are probably great, too. It seems like a waste not to have any.
So, I can eat it. Yes.
It is your food, after all.
Are you absolutely sure?
What's with him?
Never mind, then.
You, eat it. If you wish, sir.
In fact, I order you to.
Well, then.
>> [snorts] >> governed by the emperor, but instead managed by Tu Zong's family.
Mu Mu quickly deduces that the hunting trip is likely just a pretext to gather influential figures within Tu Zong's domain.
Even without the emperor's presence, the guest list appears impressive enough to serve that purpose.
During the journey, Ma Theme studies Mu Mu with suspicion, openly questioning why his father would choose someone like her.
It is then that she realizes he is South Du An's son. Given South Du An's age, the existence of a child like Ma Theme is hardly surprising.
As they pass through a scenic town with cool air and elevated terrain, Mu Mu notes that it was once a favored summer retreat for the former emperor.
However, since the current emperor's reign began, the royal family has stopped visiting, leaving the area under the continued care of the two clan.
They arrive at a grand estate, the most luxurious structure in the town, clearly meant to host guests of high status.
Nang Ti, appearing more fatigued than usual, lounges carelessly on a couch.
Niu Niu notices a black cloth nearby that resembles a face veil and wonders if he intends to conceal his appearance throughout the trip.
When Mo Theme asks how he should address him, Nang Ti instructs that indoors, he may speak as usual, but outside, he should refer to him as Hong Te Yin.
His hesitation when questioned about this alias only deepens Niu Niu's curiosity.
Further confusion arises when Niu Niu confirms that Nang Ti and South Thuin were invited separately.
Given their difference in status, she would expect them to be locked Incredible. That's quite a relief. But, go on.
You're not affected? What's wrong with you? I don't know what to tell you. I guess I'm just built different. If you will excuse me, I must retire. It's rough being so young and vigorous.
Should we Just leave him there.
I'll sleep in this room.
I can carry him back.
Ah, you must be tired.
If you say so.
The guards will be using my room this night, so you can stay in this one here, Xiao Mao.
Right.
I get all this space and a bath, too.
How extravagant.
The hunt's tomorrow.
I hope it goes smoothly.
Is this it?
Seems quite small.
It's the latest model with an improved range and accuracy. We can even use them in the forest, too.
Mark my words, this shall be his final resting place.
>> [music] >> The hunt takes place at a location half an hour away by horse, and then it's an hour up the mountain traveling by foot.
The gist of the event is we'll cook whatever game the nobles manage to kill.
There's nothing for me to do.
Maybe I'll take a walk.
This is a pretty nice forest. I bet it's a good place for all kinds of herbs and mushrooms.
Is there a waterfall nearby?
Oh, what a smart boy. Huh? Who's a good dog? Who is that? Who's a good dog?
>> [laughter] >> Hello. Hey, that sounds like Wait.
Little miss? What are you doing out here? Someone requested me to come along. Oh, yeah?
Me, too, as it so happens. I was elected to join the guard, but ended up assigned to canine duty instead.
Being selected at all is a big deal.
But since he's from the countryside, sounds like the guards were snobs and didn't want to rub shoulders with him.
He seems to be climbing the ranks lately.
And that tends to garner more resentment.
You are terrible at whistling. Did I ask you?
Plus, who needs to with this?
A smart boy to depart, yet they are placed within the same building. Ma Theim explains, somewhat irritably, that his family has long served Hong Tuan's lineage, making such arrangements natural.
This only reinforces Nu Mue's suspicion that Non Ti's background is far more prestigious than he lets on.
Later, Saengduan quietly pulls Ma Theim aside, warning him not to reveal anything prematurely.
Non Ti intends to disclose the truth himself when the time is right.
Though still wary of Nu Mue, Ma Theim reluctantly agrees after receiving a firm reprimand.
That evening, a lively banquet takes place outdoors, yet Non Ti's group remains inside with the windows tightly shut.
Nu Mue is puzzled until she examines the food and realizes it consists entirely of dishes meant to enhance vitality and desire.
While there is no poison, Non Ti refuses to eat them, opting instead for food brought from home.
To avoid suspicion, Nu Mue volunteers to eat the dishes herself, enjoying them without issue.
Her ability to handle the food surprises both Non Ti and Ma Theim, especially when the latter suffers immediate side effects after just a single drink.
As the night ends, Nu Mue is given a private room, something she finds luxurious and comforting.
She hopes the next day's hunt will proceed without complications.
Unbeknownst to her, a group of conspirators gathers in the forest under the rain, armed with a newly developed musket, plotting an assassination during the hunt.
The next day, the hunting ground lies atop a plateau, requiring a long journey by I know. I hear that sometimes you can even summon him from miles away.
The dog is petting a dog.
Summer resorts should be cool, but the clear skies are making it hot. Staying comfortable isn't easy.
Even in this heat, he won't take his mask off, which means no eating, either.
Despite his shroud and given a seating, it's clear to everyone he's the most important guest at this party.
>> [music] >> That's Master Shishou, Kankibai Lowlands' father.
Leader of the Shi Hokushou and organizer of this hunt.
Huh?
What did he tell him?
It's out of character for the infinitely well-mannered eunuch to reveal that kind of attitude.
Or maybe it's because of the heat.
I should stay out of it.
>> [music] >> Shouma. Yes.
Is it all right if I borrow this? Go right ahead.
>> [music] >> See?
Master Kousen.
It's you.
Take your mask off.
But I can't.
Why? No one's around. Someone might come along.
You're so annoying.
If you're so concerned about onlookers, let's find a secluded place where we can't be found.
Hold still.
I've got you.
I bet he's dizzy from all the heat.
Let's get him some water.
A path carrier, there's something I need to share with you. It can't wait?
I was going to tell you at some point.
I'm actually What's that?
The smell of sulfur? A favor.
Sorry, this may startle you.
Thanks for the warning for the advanced warning.
Shall we search below?
There is no way he would survive from this height. Now, would you two hurry and go hide the favors.
>> followed by a climb.
Upon arrival, preparations begin at a mountain lodge. With nothing to do, NianNian wonders into the forest and unexpectedly encounters Li Bao, who is tending to a dog.
He reveals that although he was assigned as a guard, he has been relegated to handling animals instead.
NianNian suspects this is due to jealousy from others, especially given his recent rise in rank.
Their interaction is light-hearted, with NianNian mocking his poor whistling skills until he demonstrates his ability with a proper whistle, commanding the dog effortlessly.
Watching him, she remarks that he resembles a dog himself, making the scene oddly fitting.
Back at the lodge, the heat becomes unbearable. NianNian grows concerned about Nang Ti, who continues to conceal his face and barely eats.
She notices Tu Zong speaking to him, and something in that exchange visibly unsettles him.
His reaction is so unusual that Mew Mew suspects something is wrong, perhaps heatstroke.
When Non Ti excuses himself and leaves, South Wind signals Mew Mew to follow.
She quickly prepares a drink with added seasoning and searches for him in the forest.
Finding him, she insists he remove the veil, but he refuses out of fear of being seen.
She leads him to a hidden waterfall and begins tending to him, recognizing signs of heat exhaustion.
Just as he prepares to reveal something important, gunshots ring out.
Without hesitation, Non Ti grabs Mew Mew and leaps off the waterfall.
The attackers, believing no one could survive such a fall, retreat.
I wish I had known that you couldn't swim.
It wouldn't matter. Swimming that is impossible.
You leaped off a nearly 50-m high cliff like some kind of madman.
For a moment, I thought you had lost your mind. This waterfall basin is deep.
If you jump correctly, you probably wouldn't die unless you drown. Well, I kind of did drown.
Oh, what are you doing? I apologize for being indecent, but I don't want to end up catching a cold.
I guess I should keep my undergarments on.
It would be nice to retain a modicum of modesty.
Take off your clothes and bring them over here. I'll ring them out for you, too.
All right.
I can do it.
Give me yours, too. I'm stronger than you.
All right.
Good.
He looks healthier than he did earlier.
Can't say the same about his mood.
These herbs are useless now.
Is there anything else?
Master Jinshi.
What's wrong? It's not much compared to the feast, but would you like some?
Is it a kind of medicine?
It's butterbur from breakfast.
I brought it along to eat as a small snack, but you might want them instead, since you're likely in need of salt.
I am.
When I was chasing after you, I was carrying some water with white paste and sugar in it, but I left it behind at the top of the falls.
You know, hunting with your mask on isn't so smart. And without any food or drink, you must be in bad shape.
Surely your head is aching from the heat and lack of hydration.
At least your fever seems to have come down now, but I recommend you have some salt just in case.
All right, if you say so.
Not as bad as I thought.
You eat some.
I will, thanks.
What?
>> after destroying evidence.
Miraculously, Nante rescues Mu Mu, bringing her into a cave and reviving her. Though shaken, she acknowledges his bravery. He explains that the depth of the water made survival possible, provided one avoided drowning. The mention of drowning catches her attention. To prevent illness, she begins drying their clothes, unbothered by modesty beyond basic coverage.
Meanwhile, Non-Ti grows visibly flustered. She offers him preserved food, suspecting his condition stems from salt deficiency due to dehydration and lack of food. Her practical approach helps stabilize him. As they rest, they discuss the attack. Non-Ti identifies the weapon as a musket, noting that the rapid succession of shots suggests multiple attackers.
With the enemy's numbers unknown, he chose escape over confrontation. Trapped in the cave, they search for an exit.
Non-Ti recalls an opening in the ceiling, though reaching it proves difficult. Mu Mu considers calling for help, but doubts it would work. Then she remembers Lee Bo's dog and attempts to whistle, though without much success.
Eventually, they attempt to climb by standing on each other's shoulders.
Though reluctant, Mu Mu agrees. During the attempt, a frog startles her, causing her to fall.
Fortunately, Non-Ti cushions her fall, leaving them in an unexpectedly intimate position.
As she tries to move away, he instinctively holds her in place, their faces closer than ever before. The tension between them quietly shifting into something deeper as the moment lingers.
What was that back there, anyway?
A fifa.
Fifa? It's a weapon of war that utilizes gunpowder.
After each shot, it takes time to reload, but those were all so quick, one after the other.
In other words, you think there were multiple assailants? Yes.
Two at the very least, but it is possible there were more. More?
Who would hold a grudge against him and why?
Just asking. You know a way out, right Master Jinshi?
Besides swimming, of course.
Well, there is a hole in the ceiling.
Does Master Caushwin also know about it, though? And there's the problem.
Also what? But I doubt he'll notice we're gone right away.
If we shout for help, do you think anyone will be able to hear us from down here? They would have to be extremely close by.
If we kept at it all day, someone would probably come along.
All right, Swift. No, nothing.
It's high.
But if you stood on my shoulders What would happen if Lady Swift and found out I used him as a ladder?
You would be crushed if I stood on you.
Yeah, but Do it.
Um You ought to try getting some weight.
Save it for when we get out.
It's slippery, but as long as I can get my fingers hooked Hold me. Right.
>> [gasps] >> Oh, not now, frog.
Hold still.
It doesn't hurt much.
Master Jinshi, forgive me.
>> [music] [music] >> Next time, cause we get to.
