The Aufbau principle explains how electrons fill atomic orbitals in a specific order: 1s, 2s, 2p, 3s, 3p, 4s, then 3d, following three key rules—the bottom-up rule (fill lowest energy first), the roommate rule (each orbital holds max 2 electrons), and the grumpy guest rule (electrons spread across p or d orbitals before pairing). For example, iron (Z=26) has the electron configuration 1s² 2s² 2p⁶ 3s² 3p⁶ 4s² 3d⁶, with the 3d subshell following Hund's rule where electrons occupy each of the five d-orbitals singly before pairing.

Chemistry Coding Logic Puzzle!Añadido:
[music] >> Welcome. Today, we're solving a chemistry puzzle about electron configuration. We'll use periodic table logic and the Aufbau principle to predict the next rooms. Think of it as an atomic hotel where electrons check in. Here is our atomic hotel. The floors represent energy levels. Electrons always prefer the lowest floor first.
This is the Aufbau principle. The rules of the table are simple. One, the bottom-up rule. Fill the lowest energy first. Two, the roommate rule.
Each orbital holds at most two electrons. Three, the grumpy guest rule.
In P or D suites, electrons spread out before pairing. Now, let's use periodic table logic. The energy order for our puzzle goes like this. 1s, 2s, 2p, 3s, 3p, 4s, then 3d. We'll use that to place electrons. Here is our puzzle. We must place 26 electrons, which means Z equals 26. Let's check them in step by step.
Step one, we fill the 1s room. That's 1s squared, two electrons checked in. 24 left. Step two, we fill the 2s room and the 2p suite. That's 2s squared, 2p6.
Eight more electrons checked in. 16 left. Step three, we fill the 3s room and the 3p suite. That's 3s squared and 3p6.
Eight more checked in. Eight left. Step four is the surprise level. The 4s room fills before 3d. So, we place 4s squared. Two more checked in. Six left.
Step five, the remaining six electrons go into the 3d suite. So, we write 3d6.
Now, we combine everything into the final electron configuration for iron.
This is the full address in our atomic hotel. Let's draw the orbital diagram for the 3d suite. There are five rooms.
Hund's rule says the first five guests go one per room and the sixth pairs up.
And that's the logic puzzle behind electron configuration. By following the rules of the table and the Aufbau principle, you can solve chemistry puzzles for any element.
