Did you know that most of the world's tornadoes happen [music] right here in the US, the Tornado Valley, stretching from North Dakota to Texas, can see up to 200 [music] tornadoes every single year. Tornadoes occur when humidity creates warm air that accumulates and rises. If it rises too quickly, it clashes with cool dry air and can create what is called [music] a wind shear. Wind shears are made up of changing speeds and directions of air, which then creates an air tunnel. [music] This air tunnel turns vertically and expands until it touches the ground. Tornadoes can vary in [music] all different kinds of shapes and sizes. They often last for 10 minutes on average, but some can last for hours and cover a devastatingly large amount of ground. The severity of these tornadoes or twisters [music] is measured using what we call the Fujita scale or the F scale. [music] This scale measures from zero being the lowest threat to a level five at the highest and most destructive point. The deadliest tornado [music] ever recorded actually occurred in Bangladesh during 1989, where it traveled through and destroyed over 20 different villages.
