Engine hydrolock occurs when water enters the intake ports and fills the cylinders, preventing the engine from turning over; additionally, engine bolts marked with 'SPS' indicate upgraded hardware rather than standard torque-to-yield bolts, which can complicate disassembly.

Who build this Disco Engine??Added:
Hey Rover people.
I'm working on a 4.0 GM's here in the shop tonight.
And uh it's been kind of a weird one cuz I got this out of a truck that I really want the transmission and the transfer case, but I'd like to use the block if I can.
And there've been a couple of weird things already like the the engine's locked and now I'm thinking it's hydro locked because my intake uh my intake ports are full of water.
And I don't really even know how the water got in there. It doesn't look like it's coolant or something and it had the plenum and throttle body on it and everything, but that's weird. And then I am getting these head bolts off and they are crazy tight about flipped the whole pallet over if I could get this to focus.
Where did it go? There it is. I broke my socket.
And then I came down here afterwards because I just assumed that these were the normal torque to yield bolts and these bolts say SPS on them.
So this must be somebody's project that instead of using ARP bolts they used upgraded bolt hardware on this 4.0 and then pass it off to me and I ran into this engine thinking, "Oh yeah, this is just going to pop right apart."
So I guess wish me luck because uh somebody's tinkered around with this engine a lot. Hopefully that's a good thing. Hopefully that means that when I get in here it's a good engine that something else went wrong and whoever had it last who based on all the other stuff that came out of this truck doesn't strike me as a car person just got unlucky and something went wrong and they parked it and not that somebody did all this work trying to fix a problem that they didn't get fixed and I'm going to get in here and have a slipped liner or worse.
So uh that's all I've got for you guys today. Thanks guys.
