38 Special – Caught Up in You | Hooks, Harmony, and Pure EnergyAdded:
Hey guys, welcome to PQ where we watch and talk about music as classical musicians. Today's song is by Mar, one of our supporters on Buy Me a Coffee.
So, thank you for your support and your song request. This is 38 Special, a band that we've never done on this channel.
The song is Caught Up in You.
I've heard the name of 38 Special a lot.
>> [music] >> I think from you guys, your comments, but also in general. I know the founding member of it is the brother of Ronnie Van Zant, the lead singer of Skynyrd.
And we know that they started as a Southern rock band, but then they kind of like added some more elements to their like genre, basically. So, it's not totally Southern rock. So, that's why we're very excited to to listen to this song as the first one and see how they sound like.
>> [music] >> I never knew there'd come a day when [music] I'd be saying to you, "Don't let this good love slip away."
Now that we know that it's true, don't you know the kind of man I am?
>> [music] >> No, said I'd never fall in love [singing] again, but it's real and the feeling comes shining through. I'm so caught up in you.
>> [music] >> Little girl, >> [music] >> that I never did to spend a thing.
So caught [music] up in you.
Little girl, that I never want to get myself free.
And baby, it's true.
You're the one >> [music] >> who caught me.
Baby, you caught me.
I couldn't be free.
It's It's so funny. The music video is just uh I don't know I feel like it's affecting my judgement toward this song because obviously it's just like very funny, like playful. But if you listen to this song, it's actually very interesting. So I I don't want to look at the music video honestly that much.
I'm not a big fan of the story parts that they actually show what has happened because I feel like it I don't know. It takes away a little from it. But so far I really like the the double guitar and I'm hoping to see more of like them kind of like playing together.
I love the singer's voice. I can I can definitely see like the southern rock like influence in it. I mean we haven't listened that much.
But I can also see that they're not totally loyal to that genre because I mean obviously just from the music video alone I feel like it's very very different from what be for example so I I don't remember seeing a music video from the southern rock band at all. So So that's alone I feel like it's interesting.
>> [music] >> It took so [music] long to change my mind.
I [music] thought that love was a game.
I played around enough to find that you were everything they say.
>> [music] >> You made me real and I don't know why I miss you so bad.
>> [music] >> Love I couldn't walk away just when it's right.
The light just comes shining through.
>> [music] >> I'm so caught up in you.
Little girl >> [music] >> you're the one that's got me down on my knees.
So caught >> [music] >> up in you.
Little girl I'll never want to get myself free >> [music] >> You're the Call me >> [music] >> baby you're talking how good it could be.
Feel your days and your nights.
No need to [singing and music] ever ask me twice.
>> [music] >> Whenever you want me.
And if there ever >> [music] >> comes the day when you turn and >> [singing] >> walk away.
I can't live [music] without you.
I'm so caught up in you.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> And if there ever comes the day when [music] you turn and walk away.
>> [singing] >> I can't live without you.
I'm so caught up in you.
Little girl, >> [music] >> you're the one that's got me down on my knees. So caught up in you.
>> [music] >> Never ever want to get myself free. And if it's true, you're the one >> [music and singing] >> who caught me. Baby, you told me how good it could be. Little girl, >> [music] >> you're the one that's got me down on my knees. So caught up in you.
Little girl, >> [music] >> never ever want to get myself free. And if it's true, you're the one >> [music] >> who caught me.
>> Interesting.
>> [laughter] >> I mean, I love the music. I I'm just not I was not a fan of like the other parts of the music video. So, and I but I could have not liked because I wanted to see the the performance. I feel like if you had listened to like the audio alone, I would have loved the music. I love the music, honestly. I know that you could really see the this I know I said it already, but you could really see that southern rock elements or like the base of it, but at the same time especially in some of the verses and the melodies and the arrangement are more toward like pop music, I would say. Yeah. Yeah, so it was interesting to see like a blend of these two genres. I don't think we've ever seen anything like that, but I like the music and it's definitely very catchy, so I can I can get that why why it's a very I guess famous song based on the views here. I love the the rhythm section a lot it because it was very like >> [music] >> kind of relentless. It was just going and going and going and also the guitars on top of that. Well, first of all, the I could not get over how the guitarist was looking alike like the lead singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd, which >> Yeah. what a surprise there for >> [laughter] >> us, but it's so funny that even their style >> Yeah. like with the long hair and the and the hat was the same. But aside from that, I liked how they because it was mostly with the music at least it was something was that was the repeating and not really dramatic things was happening.
Um and to break this being something really repetitive. They I like that they used and when they wanted to sing the verses, it was like more rhythmical and more like shorter approach or like shorter articulation.
And then in the chorus, it was more lying and more melodic. This difference was interesting and it was making it beautiful.
I would not I would not say that it's my favorite genre because as you know, I listen more like to really rock rock or like metal or I think I'm a little less fan of pop music. So for me, it was interesting to hear it, but yeah, I I think I rather to hear like really rock music.
But the the lyrics was interesting because I mean, I'm not even though the lyrics didn't had like really metaphors and like it was so direct and it was really meaning what they were saying, but still you could get a really even even if you didn't couldn't relate to it completely, but you could still interpret it for your own and relate to the lyrics.
For example, this thing that you see and you're like, I thought I there there is you discover a new feeling and you're like, I thought I never fall in love or I never believed in love and then now that I saw you, it's just a new life and new stage or a new feeling for me.
It's not just about cannot just be about a it can also like be interpreted to like finding your own passion or or like something that you tried or you see or you I don't know, you discover it and you're like wow, how was I how how how didn't I knew this before or like it unlocks you so many feelings or like even love and passion and it's a very special time or a special thing that happened if you if if this happened and you suddenly find something that your heart start to beat for it and you you're you're like you're so you get so passionate about it. So yeah, it was also the topic was also interesting.
That's a deep interpretation. Wow, interesting, [laughter] yeah.
>> [gasps] >> Wow, yeah, it was a very I would say like interesting blend of genres for me as well because like as I said I think I talked about it twice. I don't want to get into it again. It was a good introduction to 38 special because we heard I personally heard and saw in the [music] comments so many times that we we have to check this out. So we're glad that we actually did that. Now we know what's it all about. But if there any other songs we got to check out, please let us know in the comments. But thank you Mar for your suggestion. And thank you guys for watching us.
