LUXURY Swimming Pool Build… DIY Style! Can It Hold?Hinzugefügt:
Welcome back. So, we have been very busy these last few weeks, ticking off some seriously big jobs, cladding our forever home, and almost finishing the cabin. It has been non-stop around here. But amongst all the hard work, we realized something. We wanted to do something special for the children. We work a lot.
We build a lot. And honestly, that doesn't stop at weekends either. So, this summer, we wanted to create something just for them. Somewhere fun that they can hang out with their friends, make memories with their cousins, and have a space they can be super duper proud of. So, the challenge has officially been accepted. We are so excited about this project. It's going to be fun. It's going to be a challenge and we are going to try and finish it in record time so we can get back to the house build.
We are building our very own DIY luxury swimming pool for as little as possible.
So, come along for the ride.
As well as making an amazing space for our children, for us, and for our guests, we also want to show you that a DIY pool doesn't just have to be a paddling pool. It can be amazing and it can be low cost. So hopefully our vision will come to life and you can come along for the journey.
And if you enjoy seeing our many many projects from DIY to off-grid living to family farm life, please do not forget to hit that subscribe button, give us a hype, leave us a comment cuz it really makes a massive difference to our No.
Okie dokie. So sheep has >> mic one two.
>> Check one two >> back on the mic.
>> Hello.
>> Check one two.
>> Checking checking.
>> Um right. So Badger has finished the main structure of the pool. Looks amazing. We said it could be like another tiny house.
>> Little underground carport.
>> Yeah, like a little underground house.
Not that we need any more tiny houses on our property. Um, so you are digging. What are you doing?
>> Yeah, so I've just got So basically what I've done is they're all that way. So I'm putting supports that way. That's connect them all together.
>> And then I'm going to dig these big treated posts 600 into the ground. And then I'm going to screw them to that.
And then I'm going to make a 45. And then I'm going to concrete it in.
>> Nice. Okay. So, Badger has definitely got a harder job. Um, our lovely friends have just redone their garden. And they had loads of this black weed barrier.
Um, I think it's weed barrier. Yeah.
Leftover. So, I'm going to do a strip all the way around to stop the grass and the weeds coming through the deck. Um, and all the dust and the grit and all that kind of stuff. So, that's my job.
Badger is digging.
Let's do it.
>> Let's do it.
It just sounds like >> coming out.
Last year we made a pool. We made a pool with the same liner that we're going to use this year, but it wasn't quite strong enough. It did crack. It did bow.
And yeah, it definitely needed improving. So this year we are going all guns blazing. Badger is digging many posts in making it as strong as possible and hopefully it will stand up to the water pressure. But who knows?
So, give us a update on the beautiful box.
>> Right, you saw that I have already bolted these corners. So, I've got the big supported concreted post on the outside and a plate stretcher plate on the inside that's been bolted. So, I'm going to do the same through each one of these. I'm going to put a 12 mil bolt through the top and the bottom to hold the whole thing really sturdy. And then, obviously, you've got it a me half a meter in the ground to stop the concrete with concrete to stop it moving like that. And then some 45 braces this way to stop the racking.
>> Are you going to do the 45?
>> I think so. not 45's out because I think once the deck is in and I've got bolts that are going to bolt this >> frame that's concreted >> to the post that holding the deck up. So that should stop any movement and the the the least amount of weight is at the top. So we're concreted and bolted at the bottom and then this is supported by the deck. So it' be supported by all of these all the way around and bolted to the posts that we put the deck onto. So, we're just going to put one bolt through all of this at the top. I'm going to make it a little nook and cranny for it to hide it in so it's flush at top and bottom. We're going to do that all the way around. And then, uh, it'll be time to double check the inside um, and make sure it's flat, that there's no nails, no sharp bits. And we were going to put either some blankets or some foam down.
>> Then put the liner in temporarily because what I want to do is I want to bring the liner up. I don't know if you remember last time I brought the liner up and then I folded it over and I attached it like this, but I want to do that first. And then I'm going to put the deck on top of here.
>> Yeah.
>> And then I'm going to put a cover plate on the inside so that you can't see where the pool finishes and the deck starts. So it actually will look >> nice >> quite seamless. Um but I obviously need to get that folded over and screwed and probably a bit of weight in there before I do the deck.
>> So >> mission mission. Mission mission. Just trying to remember the processes, make sure everything are doing in order. So, I need to get the concrete in and dry.
Then liner in, fill it up. Then we need to start the deck to hold this top frame nice and steady. So, we'll fill it up about a third of the way. Get some weight in there. Make sure it's even where it should be.
>> Get the creases out, all that kind of stuff out, all that sort of stuff. Um, and then, yeah, then it'll be deck. And then it'll be trims. And we should be nearly there.
>> Then it'll be belly flop time.
>> Belly flop time.
Is it going to be strong enough? That's the question though.
>> Strong enough question. I think >> you guys can comment, but this year we've gone for much uprated. We've not left any gaps between our walls, which is definitely stronger. We've put stretches every meter. So, I've also got two more posts. I'm going to put one in between here because I just felt like that was slightly too far over that span. Um, I mean, I could, I suppose, move that one to here and one there.
That might make more sense. I don't know. It's just another hole. The holes are difficult cuz we're already a meter and a half in the ground. So, it is really just solid cybro and stone. It's quite difficult to dig. But I just think we need to get everything in the right order. Make sure and you know last year it held up for the whole summer. There was a few creeks and cracks and moves where we were missing things that we should have thought of really things like the top rail wasn't supported so it sort of started bending in and stuff like this year which we're going to >> What's so nice about things like this where we're making it ourselves and yes, okay, this isn't going to be here forever. But each year we do get better with things like that, don't we? You know, it's kind of you learned from your mistakes last year, which is what we've done is filled the gaps and make sure this is bolted. So when that that's on there, nothing can pull it down. And I'm hoping that this will be a kind of somebody messaged and said they did this and they lasted 10 years.
>> Yeah. Amazing.
>> And if this last 10 years and I'd be well chuffed.
>> Yeah, sure. And also my other thought potentially, you can comment, I don't know, is I might put uh once I've cut these off and all the rest of it, I might put roofing membrane around the outside before the deck as well. Then it just protects rain but allows it to breathe.
>> Maybe cuz I think it >> Yeah, >> anyway, lots and lots to do. So, >> lot to do. So, if you could pass me the handful of stuff that's on the outside.
It's the only frustration of being continually in and out as I can't quite reach the stuff.
>> So, if you could pass me it all in and I'll start hauling and bolting.
>> Perfect.
Hey.
Hey. Ooh.
stop. She said, "I want to see if there's any cherries." She said, "There she is. Look at her mountain goating up on the trailer collecting all." To be fair, it's a good time to collect them cuz the birds will just have the lot.
>> They come within like 20 minutes of them being ripe.
>> I reckon you've just you've just caught them. Do you want me to get a pot or something?
>> Well, I've got a handful here. All right, let let me get a bag.
>> Come see.
>> Collecting wood. Look at the cherries.
>> Oh, wow.
>> They're like obviously not as big as shop ones. They're really good. Um, yeah. Get a pot or a bag.
>> Get a pot. Let's pick them.
>> I've got like an old cake box. Perfect.
Side by side we sway there in all the colors.
folded on a lawn chair in all the colors.
Remember when we were gettinghere fast?
When the garden won't stop giving back honey, fresh cutass >> beautiful cherries.
>> Now we've got our morning sack snack sorted. Budger >> going to cause my stomach upsets.
>> Is there a cherry that you can't eat?
I'm sure there is.
>> I don't know. Bad is going to poo himself.
>> Come on then. Let's get this wood down there. You may wonder why I've got a uh Blue Peter Artac style array going on.
So, I did a job for uh a guy in England who's now a friend Charlie, and he showed me this trick of putting wire wool in vinegar, which is what I'm going to create here. And you can put it on new wood and it makes it look old. It's got a name. I can't remember it.
hypothesizing efficienting, something like that. So, I'm going to cut these out, pour that into there, and soak them. And then you leave it for 24 hours, 48 hours maybe, and it turns the liquid kind of like a rusty gray color.
And then you paint that on the wood. And then you seal it in. And it makes the kind of pine that we're going to use for the decking look old and weathered like an old deck you'd get at the beach.
Hopefully, >> other than you instead of using like varnish, which we don't love. I don't love that orange like this.
>> Yeah. To match the black house.
>> To match the black house and everything like that. So, I'm going to create a little >> So, what I think it does um from reading is it breaks down the Is that stainless steel? Yeah.
>> Wire glass. No, it rusts. It must just be steel.
>> Steel.
>> Yeah. Um, >> I don't know if this one's too thick, though, cuz the ones we've seen in the picture, it's very thin wire wool.
>> Yeah, I've got I've got a tiny bit of it. So, I've I used it used to clean pipe work with it, >> but I haven't.
>> So, we'll see if it works, >> but it's very cheap. It's eco-friendly.
It's no chemicals a liter. So, it's about It's old money petrol prices. It's about 89 cents a liter.
>> Oh, it smells like fish and chips.
>> You can't drink this vinegar, though.
>> No, you can't do anything.
>> It's uh concentrated.
>> So, the idea is I'm going to put two of these in.
It'll be really interesting to see how it comes out because if it does look how we want it to look, it's such a great cheap alternative if anyone wants to kind of stain their wood and then we'll put a pro protector over the top.
>> Yeah. And we'll also if it does work and people like it, we'll give you the recipe and we'll also tell you how much it roughly covers. So I think five of these bottles at 80p is what Kayla, you're the mathematician.
>> No, I'm not.
I am like the opposite of the ma mathematician. I can't even wizard I can't even help the children with their math homework.
>> Uh what's what's 80 * 5?
>> 5 * 8 >> 5 * 8. What? 58.
Then you dunk this in. Admittedly, this like Kayla said is a bit too >> thick. I don't know what gauge this actually is, >> but you sort of pull it apart to get the surface area a bit more.
And then you stick that in.
But >> you do have to leave it open because it does release the gas.
>> Yeah. I reckon it's going to need another one. Needs to be submerged, doesn't it?
>> Mhm.
>> So, I know I'm going to get told off for using the scissors like this, but >> it's exactly how I tell the children not to use scissors.
>> Yeah. Know, it's always away from me.
It's not into my eyeballs. I'm not going to cut myself. I have >> finger gone.
Right.
And the wire wool this bag was about was a euro.
>> So at the moment we're looking at >> about >> €260 that's gone into there. Is that three? No.
>> 3 anyway >> 40.
>> Very cheap. Much cheaper than wood stain.
>> Yeah.
That's submerged. In fact, if I put that in there >> and let it breathe.
>> And let it breathe.
>> So, we'll keep you posted on that.
>> Keep posted. Yeah, that will leave that.
And if it's any good, actually, I've only got >> So, what's the plan?
>> It's doing something.
>> What?
Pump holes. Right, next one.
>> Pump hole.
>> It is so hot in here. It's like a It's like a pit of death.
>> Do you know what you need is a swimming pool in there?
>> Need water in it. You're right. Totally right. Right.
>> Um I was thinking it does seem like a lot of wood and we I'm sure we're going to get lots of questions about the amount of wood we're using for this.
>> Yeah. But we are going to reuse it one day.
>> Yeah, we'll reuse it one day. And also I looked at every other option to try and make it out of whether it's sandwich panel or every other option. And this was the cheapest. I know that sounds mad.
>> Yeah, it's crazy, >> but it was the only way I could integrate the deck and everything into it to make it all one kind of structure.
So >> yeah, it is what it is really. And also I looked at replacing the frame for that and it was twice this. Yeah.
1500 for it.
>> Yeah. Mental.
>> Um, but also it means that we'll be able to reuse it one day, which is great.
>> Yeah, definitely. Right. I just need to knock out the other hole and then we are almost ready to get the liner in.
>> Amazing.
>> Well, get the pads uh cushions in first.
>> Yeah.
>> Right.
right? Then let's uh try and struggle this into the hole.
Good morning.
Oh my golly golly gosh. The liner is in.
>> Yes.
>> How are we feeling badger?
>> Very over stimulated by the sun in here at the moment. Um but yeah, I'm ready.
I've just I've let the pipe run for a little bit to get the bits of sal sand sand and silt out. So if you could pass up to me and then I can start ironing the floor out.
>> Amazing. the bones back in. It doesn't just disappear all over the floor.
>> Um, are you happy with it so far?
>> I think this time that we did the frame ever so slightly smaller.
>> Okay.
>> Um, it's not made a huge difference. It just might make the floor have a bit of a wrinkle in it, but have to wait and see. It's hard to get it to pull in all the directions you need, but it'll be fine.
>> Looks incredible.
That with the deck. Give us a lap.
>> Quick lap of the pool. Oh, I wish I was.
I'm so hot. Quick, pass me that pipe.
>> Okay.
>> Right. Pass me that massive pipe.
Ah.
>> Oh god.
>> It's going to get you wet. Go then.
Chuck it in.
>> I don't know where I can stand.
>> Oh. Oh. Oh.
I got it.
Woohoo.
Big man.
I love the fact you you pur even if I Right. So, there we go. We have made some amazing progress on the pool. I have to say it's taken a bit longer, a bit more fiddly than we expected, but next week we are going to hopefully have the most beautiful oasis in the middle of the forest, a beautiful swimming pool. So, don't forget to tune in.
Please subscribe, give us a like, give us a hype, and we'll see you next week.
Ciao.
