Electrolysis is the process of using electrical current to drive chemical reactions in a solution, while electroplating applies this principle to deposit a thin layer of metal onto another object by connecting the object to be plated as the cathode (negative terminal) and a pure metal plate as the anode (positive terminal) in an electrolyte solution.

Added:Do you know why I love science?
Because science is not just in our books. It's everywhere around us.
And that's why I love our science club.
Our science club takes us beyond the syllabus.
We explore, experiment, and understand why behind everything we see.
From colorful reactions to exciting hands-on activities, [music] every session makes us think like young scientists.
Because science is not about memorizing answers.
It's about being [music] curious enough to ask questions and brave enough to find them.
Welcome to our science club, where learning becomes an adventure.
>> Hello everyone. This is Adnan Khurshid from class eight. And today, we are performing electrolysis with the simple things present around us. HERE ARE THE simple things required for our the process of electrolysis. Here is a cardboard with two holes. And here are two pencils, which will act as one cathode and one anode. We know that the pencil lead is made up of graphite. And we know that graphite is a very good conductor of electricity and heat. And here is the normal tap water present in every houses. And this is the common salt. This is one 9-volt battery, and it is its connecting wire. We know that water is a bad conductor of electricity.
So, we will take some salt from the petri dish and put it in the water to make it more to conduct the electricity more.
Now, we will take this small piece of cardboard and put the pencils in it.
Now, we will connect the connecting wire with the tip of the pencils.
Here it is. This is the complete circuit that we have made. Now, we will put it in the water.
>> [music] >> Here, the water is acting like a electrolyte and the circuit completes.
And now, electrolysis starts.
>> Gold plated jewelries or silver plated utensils [music] are something what we all have used in our day-to-day life. Sometimes, it make our life more attractive and useful, too. But, have we ever wondered that how the plating of metal to any of [music] object actually work? I took the initiative to make you understand and demonstrate about the process of electroplating. Now, the materials required are hydrated copper sulfate, tap water, glass rod, a 9-V battery, connecting wire with a iron nail and [music] a pure copper plate.
To initiate [music] the process of electroplating, I need to put the CuSO4 with the tap water to make it electrolyte.
>> [music] >> Now, I have connected an [music] iron nail which needs to be plated with cathode or negative terminal >> [music] >> and connected it with a pure copper plate uh >> [music] >> anode or positive terminal.
Now, I will connect this whole apparatus with this 9-V battery and will put this into the electrolyte to complete the circuit and start the process of electroplating.
>> Hey, this is just a glimpse of what [music] we do in the science club.
Behind every experiment, [music] every project, and every discovery, there's a world of curiosity, creativity, and excitement waiting to [music] unfold.
And trust us, there's so much more happening [music] here than you can imagine.
Stay tuned. Stay curious because in our science club, every day is a new adventure in discovery.
