Our BARNDO Build Escalated QUICKER Than We Ever Imagined!Added:
Yeah.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Hey guys, welcome back to Doss Acres. It is framing day number three. I'm Kyle. This is Shannon. This is our awesome 20 acres. It is becoming awesomer. Yeah, I said it. And right at the moment, this is the first sign. You see those blue skies back there? Yesterday it was cold and rainy all day long.
>> All day long.
>> Off and on. Heavy rain, light rain, just misting. I mean, it was garbage. Two of the guys showed up in shorts and they were like, "Well, >> we didn't check the weather right apparently." So, everybody's sharing hoodies and jackets and things.
>> But, >> but guess what? They still worked even though it was yucky and gloomy.
>> Yeah, it was a long day. I mean, I'm exhausted by the end of the day because I'm in there with them. I'm filming with them. We have a great rapport with him now. And Ryan's even said like, "Man, y'all are so good to work with and work for." And whether he's lying or not, I don't know. But it has really been a great experience. And and so, of course, yesterday we filmed all day long. We're going to see how much of it we can get today. Uh but they are also grading for my baby's wraparound porch.
>> That's so exciting, guys.
>> I claim that it's yours. Really, I'm just using it as a tool to one of my I'm getting brownie points.
>> I'll take it.
>> Stocking them up.
>> That's my porch. Just wait till it gets decorated and has plants on it and flowers >> and my smoker grill that Jr. so politely donated to the cause.
>> Yeah.
>> Let's go up there and see what we got going on. We got a lot of progress yesterday and it looks a little bit like this.
It's so far up there.
The piles of lumber have officially shrunk. I can see ground again.
Come on.
>> Good.
That's what all these blocks were throwing in is so all the drywall blocking in the walls is done already. So they'll be able to run the drywall >> just ready to go. Very nice. Very nice.
trying to think of the other.
>> I've seen some I know you guys have put up some strategic ones that I'm like I don't really know that I Heat.
Hey, heat. Hey, heat.
Dad's over here on the cross. So, >> no. Nothing ever. You know better than that.
My stomach's not full with them.
We'll get a picture of me working.
>> This is evident.
>> It happens.
I don't want Hey. Hey. Hey.
Well done, sir.
>> Like mowing the yard when you feel it hit that.
>> Is that what it's like?
>> All right. I like that feeling.
walk really obvious like man.
You're going to have to do some fancy on that one.
>> I got your back. Don't worry. Oh, >> thanks.
>> Except I don't have your back if you know what I mean.
>> I appreciate that as well.
Okay, I am on my line right there.
One second.
Guys, >> hang back up.
>> Okay, let's put it on your toes. That way it smash your toes before it does your fingers.
>> Okay, don't let this one >> sliding over here.
>> Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?
>> Nobody.
>> Crack.
Yep, I got him.
>> Well, looks a little different.
>> Looks a lot different. It looks great.
>> I think it's >> You're like, I could fit one camper, two campers, three campers, four campers.
That's that is exactly how we calculate uh the expansion project. So that's all exterior walls, but we're leaving this one open just so you can get the skid up here to get the trusses on.
>> The trusses on and then we'll set that.
We'll reach the uh the 9 ft sidewall from the outside there. So we'll be able to boom those out from there.
>> Nice.
>> Um double check all of our jams for level.
>> Ryan, I've watched you double check.
There ain't nothing double about it.
It's a hund times over. And I get it. I can relate, man.
>> So, today is the start of day three of framing.
It's still a little bit cool today.
There is a slight chance of rain this afternoon that just popped up this morning. I think they just see all the gray and they're like, "Yeah, it might rain." But today, what Ryan and them are doing right now, starting to line out where the wraparound porch is going to be on the front right of the building when you're facing it. He's going to work on getting those forms set up so he can pour that porch. Uh the other guys are kind of finishing the framing on the interior walls inside the living quarters. Got a couple of doorways to shore up just a little bit. And then it's basically time for trusses and the plland or the girts, the horizontal 2x4s that go all the way around the building.
That is what they attach the metal to.
So I'm really excited to see how far they get today. The skid steer's back. I don't know if you noticed that. And I think if I ask real nice and remind him that I let him borrow the tractor for the last 3 days moving lumber and everything that maybe we could do a trade, you know, he'll just give me the skid steer for my tractor since it did the job for him.
Probably not.
three brains on this. That's why I try to stay back just a little bit and let them work through the maths. Kind of a big deal.
Grab your face of the steak like I was packing it.
>> Yeah.
>> Help the other side.
Oh, a little bit more.
Little bit more.
Oh, >> too much coffee. I'll get it.
>> This porch is probably one of the most talked about things between Shane and I and our future dreams.
We spend a lot of time outside the sea.
>> So, as I learned when I was building my shed down there and a lot of y'all were here, uh it's been a couple few years back now. I don't even remember how long ago that was. And it took me 4 months to build a 12x6 shed that I didn't even run power in. I did get a couple of windows in. That was my first big build. And watching this stuff, guys, it is motivating me. And now seeing my big shop, oh man, I I have future goals and dreams of things. I'm going to have to learn new skills, teach myself things, and I'm so happy about it.
>> I was going to say that's exciting.
>> That is exciting. However, you know, a lot of you reminded me like, hey, you are doing the framing is a part of the rough construction. It's not the finished construction. So, sometimes things happen, plans get misread, uh, or there are different versions of plans and you all got to get on the same page.
A little bit of that took place here, it was not a big deal. And because we're still in this phase, and Kyle's going to try to run over us with the skid steer.
Look at those blue skies and white clouds.
I need that. I need a skid stew, babe.
It's official.
>> I know you do. I know.
>> Not even arguing that, guys.
>> We're going to play a little game. It's called What's a little different today than from the first day as far as framing. I'm not even going to point it out to you. But everything is short up.
Uh we've got door heights and things that are being adjusted a little bit just just because that's just how it works. And some of it is like, hey, you know, the plan called for this. The plan being Shannon found an app on the iPad where she could draw lines and there were grid lines and I said, "Hey, could you please use the grid lines, you know, and she's like, "No, I don't have to."
Eventually, she did. So, it was it was a little rougher of a plan than something you would go pay thousands of dollars to have a professional architect do. Uh, and that's totally fine, but through that doorways, lining up cased openings and things. I'll show you here in just a minute a little more specifically, but all of that can be a little tweaked in the moment. And when you have people like Sam and Ryan and their crews and everybody out here, they know what is normal. They know what is up to code and everything. And we don't technically have to be up to code cuz we're out here in the country, but we're getting up to code, so no big deal. But few minor tweaks and all the rest of it. Oh, it looks glorious.
>> I can't wait to take you guys on a tour through there.
>> Yeah.
So, they came out earlier. I showed you a little bit where they were setting up the string line and they kind of realized, you know, hey, this is how far out it needs to come. That is 2-in clean rock. That's the same rock. If you remember before we poured concrete, we had that wet oh, what do you call it?
Kind of like a jello spot over there.
And you had to dig that out, order that 2-in rock, put it back down, and then put the regular base rock up top. So, this is similar concept.
get this down first and then they'll get a little bit of that smaller 1-in stuff on top of it.
Watching watching a skid steer move is so hard for me. I I just I'm in the cockpit in my head. I'm in there. I want to do it.
>> And whenever we film Kyle like this, it puts pressure on him.
>> He knows we're over here filming.
>> Now, on the inside right now, they are putting up the last interior frame wall.
So all of the frame walls are up except for this garage door right here. So you see here we got the 10 x10 garage door headers in. Everything's there. It's all braced up, but they've got to leave this open so they can get the skid in to get the trusses up, which may be happening in the next day or two. The building already looks huge. I was telling Ryan that. I was like, "Dude, >> it's so big." He's like, "Oh, you just wait until we put those trusses up there." I didn't even think like I I heard 10ft doors, but standing in the doorway, I'm like, "Oh my gosh, that is a huge door."
>> Yeah. Well, and you know, when I was a younger lad, you know, 10 ft is the height of a basketball rim.
>> Really? Okay.
>> Yeah. And you know, I used to be able to run up double hand and grab it, whatever. Now, you know, the old uh the old OD kicks in. I was I'm just standing under it. I'm like, "How in the world did I jump up there and touch that when I was younger?" It ain't happening these days. And I'm not about to try cuz I might hurt myself. Yeah, let's not do that.
>> Instead, we'll just drive through it.
How about that >> deal?
>> Yeah. So, we did go with the 10 ft high.
I can get my tractor in there, leave the rocks up. Uh if we ever had a excavator or something, it'd be easier to get in there and I don't have to worry about my wife knocking off her mirrors or my mirrors because she's a professional parker.
>> I'm just going to park outside, guys.
>> Yeah, we're leaving this all open for us. Oh, it's looking great. I'm going to see if I can sneak a peek on everybody.
They know we're vlogging. It gets kind of awkward whenever we're over here talking to the camera like this.
>> I'm glad to see everybody's dressed a little bit warmer today.
>> Yeah, I know. Everybody wore their coats and everything and now the sun's going to pop out on us.
So, we've got the mechanical room right here. That's the drain for it that will be cleaned up and properly draining once this is all said and done.
This is my bathroom, my shop bathroom.
It's actually bigger than I expected.
Now, we went ahead and we're 9 ft ceilings in here. We're 9 ft ceilings over there, but we are technically in the shop. So, you see back there, it's 12 ft for the shop. So, they will put in ceiling joist. And then we've opted to put decking up top because that'll leave us probably about a 3T after finish and all that stuff. Maybe about 3 ft of storage up there. 6 feet deep. So, we did decide this here coming into the shop. This will have an insulated exterior door on it. You walk in, this is where washer and dryer will be. This is a cased opening that we've got a little bit wider than what it's going to be. We're going to bring that in just a little bit so the depth of the washer and dryer fit in this little pocket. And then over here will be an extension of our closet.
Right.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
It's all It's been so much so fast.
>> This is what happens when Shannon designs things instead of Kyle >> a little bit. Yeah. So, this is in essence probably I don't know. I don't I don't really know if this space is bigger or over here. But that's closet.
This is extended closet. We'll have washer and dryer right here. Washer and dryer. Babe, >> I can't tell you how excited I am about.
We will go from the dryer straight to the shelves or the hangings or the whatever. It doesn't have to get folded and put back in laundry baskets, driven back to Shady Acres, never put away.
Fill up the camper floor. We don't want to talk about that.
>> I can't even tell you how excited I am about that.
>> Oh man, it is incredible. Yeah. So, we run around doing laundry at the laundromat at my parents. We did it at my cousin and his wife's for a while. I mean, >> it's amazing. It's amazing how big of a deal laundry and being able to do it here. And we get messy. You know, you've met our animals. You You've seen the land. We get messy. It will be nice to just be able to throw my favorite pants and my favorite shirt in the washer by itself. And No, I'm just kidding. I'm more resourceful than that.
I actually asked them if they could just leave that there for us.
>> Oh, yeah. So that I have to step over it all the time. I I think it'll just kind of keep us young and limber, you know, force us to do some up and over and all that stuff.
>> Good idea.
>> But this is more of the closet here.
>> There will be a little wall. A little wall. It's a normal size wall. I don't I my brain I don't know. I'm so hyper today. There will be a wall right here that will be a tile shower on the other side with a little half wall right here. So the entrance into the shower will just be 3 ft across. You know, you had mentioned I am pretty sure that this space right here is bigger than our whole standing space in our bathroom right now.
>> 100.
>> I was looking at it this morning. I was like, I think he's right. I think our shower is going to be bigger.
>> Wait, go back to what you just said.
>> I think our shower is >> I think he's right. I heard it. They heard it. It's on record.
>> They heard it.
>> It is, guys. This it it it's no words.
My I don't have to duck. I've been coming through these doorways like literally they're just like, "What is Kyle doing?" I just walk in circles going through the doorways and I'm not having to duck. I'm not hitting my head.
It is fantastic. But yeah, babe, that's your uh 4x6 shower that I saved for you cuz Ryan was trying to downsize it to a 3x6.
>> How rude.
>> I think he knows better than that now.
>> Yeah, I think they're getting close to standing up this wall. So, we need to get out of their way.
>> Come this way, Bruno.
>> Master bedroom right here.
>> Come on.
>> Wall kitchen where Dave is. island is where that roughen plumbing is sticking out where Adam is. That is the pantry. Is Adam in the pantry?
>> Yeah.
>> And then it's >> open.
>> Open. And then it's bathroom.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> So, there's open space. There's cavity between >> No, I thought you were going the other direction towards the front door. It's right where you're at. It's >> No, no, no. What is it behind Adam there? I just need Adam's in the pantry.
What's next? Bathroom.
>> Bathroom.
That's a big bathroom. Are we doing a double vanity in there?
>> I don't know yet. Probably not.
>> I got my own bathroom. I don't need I got We got double vanity. I don't mind coming out and going into my bathroom.
My bathroom. That's right. Mine.
>> Your bathroom.
>> These guys are so fun. I'm telling you.
Great attitudes. The whole crew. And they're so receptive of us just walking around, talking, getting in their way.
>> I >> No words.
>> What an experience.
>> No words.
>> I think I'm I'm I You know what it is, babe? It's the blue skies.
>> Oh, man. It makes all the difference.
>> Yesterday was so rough and cold, rainy.
>> Yeah. Let's just soak this up.
That sun is wanting to peek out over there.
Adam's afraid of the camera. He just pretends like I'm not here. So is Dave.
Don't tell him I said that. I'm just kidding. They're great. I do want to mention folks, uh, we ordered our building kit through 4W Metal Building Supply Co. out of Oronoga, Missouri.
That's J.R. and Charles and Chrissy that we've been talking about. Wonderful people. And Charles was who we worked with on the design. Took some design inspiration from JR's experience and came together to put all of this together. Well, they order from Burrow's postframe supply company. Uh, and I've actually spoken with their one of their marketing directors. I believe he is.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I want to mention something. If you notice that the boards are a little dirty, a little uh dirty, that's the wordy we're going to use. If you notice it looks a little dirty, it's because we ordered the building kit pretty far in advance. And in case you haven't noticed, we didn't have anywhere to keep it stored, you know, in a place like this, which is what we would need. So, the pretty wood, that is what the entire kit looked like when it first came. Everything was great. Everything was clean. And it still is. It's fine. I promise you. But it would look a little bit cleaner had we had a different place to store it or it didn't get 10 in of rain in 2 weeks on it. I think it even got snowed on a little bit. Oh man, we just had crazy weather.
>> You see the sunshine?
My heart I can feel it. I can feel the warmth. It's great.
>> Oh, me too. It just makes so such a big difference.
>> I say that it's going to jump behind a cloud again. But we are so thankful, guys. The materials so far have just been spoton. Um, in fact, there's a little bit excess. So, they've been able if somebody miscut something or we had to repair something or make a little change on the fly. So far, we're using all the materials from our kit. And I think we're going to make it. We're going the distance.
>> That's awesome.
>> Very pleased with it, guys. So, if you have a need, look up 4W Metal. Look up Burough's Post Frame Supply. Reach out.
Work with them. Order you a kit. Go through this process. It's the most amazing thing that's ever happened out here. Thanks, guys. All right, Mom.
Where my room at?
>> The whole thing. This is the Bunaminium.
>> This the Brunaminium?
>> Yeah.
>> This mine?
>> Yep.
>> Okay. I smell the cats has been up here.
I don't like that. This the brunaminium.
They need to be kicked out of here.
>> Leave it.
>> But mom, >> Bruno.
>> Mom, it's wood.
>> I know, but that's their pencil. You got to leave it.
>> He went and got a guinea egg yesterday >> after everybody left and you and I were up here inspecting. And he brought it up here on the slab. And I know he loves the slab cuz again, it's the only level hard so big stretches on level ground.
It's nice. It is nice. It is nice. He loves it up here, but he tries to eat the egg up here. Well, if he does that, it's going to get all over the slab and I don't really care. But if we can avoid it, we can >> really want it happening.
>> So he leaves it on the driveway in the morning when these guys rolled up. Dave walks over and he's like, "Um, one of your guineies might have laid an egg on the driveway." Said, "No." I said, "Brun likes to transport them and save them and eat them for later."
>> That's not true. Okay, that's pretty true. That's going true. You know, I haven't eated that one just yet.
I'm looking out my window. This is fantastic. What a view, guys. What a view.
Just going to look out my back door here. Watch what he's doing out here.
These are the 2x8 ceiling joists that I was telling you are going to go up on top of this for the decking.
It It's taking shape, folks. I feel like the first two days of framing were awesome and huge and you see it start to take shape, but as they are tying in all of these corners and everything and tying in all these interior walls, it really solidifies the frame adds rigidity. And once they get this final piece on here, you can see that ratchet strap that is they did some very fine tuning yesterday cuz this was the first wall they stood up. So then as they continue on and add more walls and whatnot, it kind of shifts and changes some of that. And so knowingly, they go back and they had Ryan's brother Josh was on that wall the whole time he was here yesterday. And Ryan was checking in with him. They were running levels together doing measuring and so they got it adjusted properly and then they put that strap on it to hold on until they can tie in this door after they're done with the trusses over here. Uh, and once that's done, the trusses go up, the horizontal plland that go all the way around the outside for the metal, it just strengthens the whole building. And it goes on from there. When the metal goes on, when the insulation sprayed in, this same the 2x6 exterior walls, must have, especially out here in high wind in the Midwest for an attic weather. You just 2x6 walls plus the insulation, the temperature control in the cold of winter and the hot of summer. Perfect.
Heat. Heat.
We have accidentally trained poor pitiful Bruno so well with this harness that he knows it's good boy time when the harness and the leash is on. Don't you, buddy? You look so depressed.
Poor Bruno.
But you know it's all in the name of a brighter, better future, buddy. Yeah, more comfortable, safer.
Yeah, you've been such a good boy.
All these people love me and I love them. I just want to hang out with them all day long.
Love you, big guy. Got eye boogies. You didn't even get camera ready this morning. You got an eye boogie on my arm. Evil weight.
He's just staying over here. We didn't even give him a command. He just says me. He doesn't like walking around with that leash very much.
He just wants to help.
What's up, Bruno?
Hey, baby. Last Oh, there you go.
I've been waiting for that wall to go up. I've just been trying to be a little fly in the window and watch. But that's so exciting.
Heat. Heat.
just to verify something that Sam was asking me earlier. I told him that um that the doorway into the bedroom was just going to be a cased opening for now and that we may want to put a barn door up later. So, he's going to make that the same height as all these other doors. Is that okay with you?
>> Very much so.
>> Okay.
>> I appreciate it.
>> Yeah.
>> Good job, supervisor.
>> I've been waiting on this wall. I feel like I can go edit now. This is like the moment I've been waiting for.
>> You saw it.
>> I got to see it. I know it seems like a small space to a lot of people, but to us, this feels huge. Oh, it's ginormous.
>> Huge.
>> Yeah. Let me go measure how big our camper bedroom is.
>> Oh my gosh.
>> All right, guys. Been editing all afternoon and I'm getting ready to get my own sneak peek of what's been happening.
And I have to tell you, I am super duper excited about this right here. I'm going to give you a sneak peek, but we're not going to show you more until the next video. That's my porch.
Okay, so there is still so much that you guys have not seen. Kyle has been out here filming literally all afternoon while I've been editing. And we had to take a little break because our goats decided to break out. And it's the typical Shadyacres craziness as usual.
>> Yeah.
>> So, I I told him I'm going to give him a sneak peek of the porch and I did. But as far as all the other footage, we just have to wrap it up here and tell him to come back on Saturday.
>> Hey, there's going to be a lot for Saturday. I actually just got done talking to Sam a little bit ago and Ryan's even kind of alluded to a few things and I haven't even told you yet, but Saturday's video might be 4 hours long. There's just >> I don't know if I have that.
>> There's so many moving at the same time and they're just so efficient and there's you're just like you're looking over here. I got the drone in the air and I'm pointing over there and it is so incredible. These guys work like a welloiled machine.
>> That's awesome.
>> Yeah. Very grateful. Very grateful for Ryan, his crew, Sam and his crew. And it's just they're they're rocking and rolling.
>> Yep. I did see a big truck got delivered just a little.
>> That would be got the rock for that porch over there. That might be being poured sooner than you know.
>> Are you serious?
>> Oh yeah. Oh yeah.
>> Oh, I can't wait for updates. There's just there's more than that. You don't even >> Oh, man. I can't wait for updates.
>> No, they they like to tell me all this good stuff. Well, guys, the framing's coming along wonderfully. Uh, you got to have the porch floor done to frame the roof over it. Wink wink. So, we're moving quick. Decking went up over the We'll show you all this stuff. All this stuff. I have hours and hours of footage of it. So, thanks, babe, for editing all this for our wonderful people.
>> You're welcome.
>> Folks, we love and appreciate you. We hope you're enjoying all of this. So, we thank you so much for coming on this journey with us and as always, we'll see you in the next one.
>> Bye.
