Best 4WD Island in Australia? (Don't book until YOU watch this)Added:
Welcome back to TJ and Mac News team.
>> Today we are >> on one street.
>> Yeah, we are in fact talking about islands of Southeast Queensland.
>> Today we're going to discuss the islands of Southeast Queensland because it's safe to say we've been going to them what every year for 10 years. It is our local uh holiday destination uh being that we are based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
>> And we're going to rank these islands from best for beginners, best weekend trip, best for adventure, best overall, and a wild card. So, we're going to talk about five locations in this video.
>> That's exciting.
>> And we're starting with Stratro. Wow.
>> Right. That's kickoff.
W that come from. Tell you what, stick around to the end of the episode and we're going to tell you guys how you can win yourself this King toolbox kit because during this episode there's a few islands we speak about that you really should be prepared for and a tool kit is one of those things you should have.
>> So stick around to the end cuz we're going to let you know.
>> And we are discussing current costs. So with the with the fuel prices uh going absolutely insane at the moment. Um, so far from what we can research is barge pricing hasn't changed.
>> As of today and filming this, these are the prices we have, which are basically the normal prices that you're used to.
>> Correct. But that could change uh with the current fuel situation going on, but hopefully not.
>> So check yourself on the cost of fairies.
>> Yeah, Strad Island.
>> Now, access to Strad Broke. Safe to say that's a ferry. You're going overseas.
>> Correct. So you it is still an adventure in that sense. But my my feeling when I get to Strad broke >> is it's a residential island. There's bmen everywhere. You can take a normal vehicle car.
>> Take a Prius there if you wanted.
>> Take a Tesla there. It's which I've seen over there. It's all bumen. You can >> there's lots of uh >> just like the mainland.
>> Yeah. Lots of highrises. There's caravan parks. There's >> there's everything here.
>> There's holiday houses, everything. Um, you don't actually have to go off road.
So, >> with that in mind, it has all of that as well.
>> Correct. So, it has the most eastern side. So, it does have surf and things like that with camping along the eastern side. And it does have camping along the north and the northwest side.
>> Yeah, there's a few options of camping which do need permits. Uh the the barge itself at this point in time in return averages $260 for a vehicle >> that is so if you got a trailer it's more >> if you've got an oversized vehicle it's more. Uh and that's an average. Um Strrokes pretty consistent pricing though.
>> It is. Yeah. It doesn't doesn't fluctuate too much with holidays and things.
>> You're going to be looking at monthly permits for your vehicle over there.
That's the minimum. believe it's $57 per month per vehicle. Campings you can do per night, but I won't give you that price cuz I don't know how long you're going for with >> camping. How would you rate the difficulty of Strad Broke?
>> Uh the difficulty is rather rather easy.
Um >> I would say easy.
>> The the northern side is definitely there's you're straight on hard sand. So maybe going into the campsites, there's a little bit of soft um and in the campsite areas. There was that spot I nearly sort of got bogged on, but >> still you're in between patches of grass like >> correct. You can and plenty of trees to win off or anything like it's not >> you're not getting stranded out in the bush.
>> No. And and the east side um >> it's a beach.
>> It's a beach >> with tides.
>> Tides. So there is soft sand. So that that kind of gets pretty normal difficulty. So >> overall, I'd say it's an easy one to visit. for off-road capability.
>> Guys, pick your tides. If you're worried, pick your tides. Go on low tide. Be like driving down a highway.
You're never going to have an issue.
>> Yeah. And what would you say is an iconic spot on Strad Broke Island?
>> Ah, >> I reckon the the big lake, the brown lake.
>> The brown lake was cool.
>> It's like a freshwater lake.
>> Yeah, actually I do like going out there. It's always a nice swim if you've been been camping in the fresh water.
>> Unreal. You feel so good. um >> tea tree water.
>> Yeah, it is. It's brown tea tree water, but it's it's it's nice. It doesn't feel like it's the Brisbane River. So, >> and I'd say another iconic spot is the boardwalk along the headland. Awesome.
Unreal.
>> It's like a spot you don't even need a four-wheel drive to visit. Notable camping spots, you would say maybe where we went last time.
>> 100% Flender Beach camping. Um, we actually went straight after like Australia Day weekend and everyone >> did their part. It was very clean.
Everyone must have taken their stuff.
It's got drop toilets there.
>> Well maintained.
>> Well maintained. Um, >> little kangaroos jumping around. Bloody >> spider in the toilet.
>> Unreal though. Unreal.
>> So, that was good. I like that spot. And it's a bit further away, you know. It's it's it's a little bit further up the beach away from the the hustle and bustle and all the hotels and and touristy spots. Now, one more interesting part. Um, I think we should give the islands a fishing or a surfing vibe. And I think Strad Broke might be the surfing vibe.
>> Yeah, the surf.
>> There's a good break there.
>> Yeah. And there's actually a campground, Cylinder Beach campground. Um, really nice campground there. Uh, it's like a caravan park campground. Um, straight out the front of there. Cylinders Beach.
Gets great surf.
>> We're going to give it a crowd rating. I would say medium.
Yeah, >> it's got its holiday period same as everything. It flows up and down, but there's a lot of barges go there cuz it's a residential island.
>> Yeah, a lot of people >> can be very busy.
>> And >> in holiday periods, >> as for a remote uh rating, I would say >> one out of 10.
>> One out of 10. It's next to zero remoteness. So, you just go up the road to the cafe and have coffee and look at everything.
>> They've got pubs, they got resorts, they got a fire station, a police station.
There's >> not very remote at all, but >> And then the last thing for Strad Broke, a standout feature, which I would I think I've got a pretty good one, but if you've got a better one, let me know.
>> Standout feature. I would say the pub was pretty good.
>> I'm going to say that sandill climb.
>> Oh, the sandill climb.
>> So, there is an impossible impossible sandill climb. We've been told it's a downhill only, but >> yeah, we didn't realize that. We're like, "Oh, there's big sand hill. Let's drive up it." Oh, wait. You can't.
>> If you want a notable four-wheel drive challenge, head to the sand hill. All righty. Next. Hang on.
>> Who is it now?
>> Yeah. Yeah. You know, we're trying to actually film this.
>> It doesn't tell me what it is.
>> Yeah. Look, I'll double check. Hang on.
>> Wants me to just double check the prices on Morton, so >> Oh, okay. Give him a buzz.
Oh, you got it wrong. Hang on. Start again.
>> Sorry. Yeah.
>> Yeah. Yeah. I just need to confirm the Morton Fraser. Ah, sorry. The Morton ferry cost. Yeah, it Oh, it does range a lot. Okay, I'll let them know. Morton Island, guys. So, uh that is definitely a ferry to get to. Again, once again, overseas. So, big variations on fairies >> in the busy times. I mean, yeah, it goes up a lot in the busy time. So, the cheapest I could find a return trip for a single vehicle was a 198 and the upper end, which was our last trip.
>> Oh, god.
>> It's about 353.
>> Yeah, that wasn't that wasn't cheap that one >> per vehicle >> and that was midweek. That was a Monday returning on a Thursday.
>> Yeah. Um, it was a lot. So, Morton, once again, only offer a monthly permit for your vehicle. Mhm.
>> Um although you can do uh nightly camping permits. So vehicle permit is $5980. Difficulty. How would you rate >> How would you rate Morton? Difficulty.
>> Difficulty of Morton Island. Um if you had to, you could do it in two drive.
>> Ask me how. I know.
>> If you had a very capable >> If you have a very capable drive horsepower car, but no, the the western side gets very very soft. Um, >> I'm going to say it's up near medium.
Easy to medium.
>> Yeah, depending on like >> I say medium. Yeah, >> go if you if you time your low tide, it's easy.
>> Yeah, as if your tide, Again, it all comes back to tides and tire pressure.
If your tire pressure is low and your low tide, you're never going to have an issue. Except the only time you will is getting in and out of camp, uh, gets really soft and chopped up. Especially like on our recent trip, it was a it was a full moon. The tides were really high.
So, we were really pushed up in the so everyone on the island was pushed up into the real soft stuff and it really chews it out.
>> Makes the problem worse. But >> the coolest thing about Morton Island is no bumen. It is all off-road. There is no bumen. You're straight off the ferry in the four-wheel drive. Need your tires down before you leave the ferry.
>> Correct. It's very very cool actually.
for that. Yeah, >> there there is houses um and there is one resort. You can actually catch a pedestrian ferry over which drops you at the resort, stay at the resort and head back to Brisbane. So, if you don't have a full drive or you don't want to you can't afford the per uh the barge and the permits and all the things, but you want to go on a holiday, >> yeah, fly into Brisbane. You can get a bus and then a ferry and then stay at the resort.
>> Iconic highlighted spots. There's a lot of these on Morton Island, so we're only going to give you a couple, maybe one each.
>> Iconic spots.
>> Iconic spots of Morton Island.
Gutterbar.
>> Gutter.
>> The pub.
>> You got to visit the pub on the most southern side. Yes. The most southern end of of Morton Island.
>> Yeah.
>> Is where the Gutterbar is situated.
There's actually a few houses there, so there's some locals live down that way as well.
>> Me, I might pick There's heaps of them.
I might just give I might just sprinkle a couple in there. Yeah, there's >> Oh, yeah.
>> There's the lighthouse.
>> Love the lighthouse.
>> It's one of the oldest lighouses in Queensland. It's We've got the uh the barracks.
>> The barracks was cool, but >> it's cool to see if you've never seen them.
>> Just don't research the story behind the >> most iconic spot of Morton is the Rex or the Snorling.
>> Love the Rex.
>> It's why everybody goes and you can park up, get a sunset.
>> It's incredible. So, >> and also Honeymoon Bay is really nice.
It's just over from um North Point.
>> Um you can only walk there. You can't drive there. We could just keep talking about it.
>> I love there's a lot.
>> I love Morton. I bloody love.
>> So, notable camping options on Morton.
We always love the west coast because we live on the east coast of Australia. So, you get that sunset over the water, flat water conditions.
>> Yeah, it's really nice. The cruise ships going past.
>> The cruise ships go through the passage and like it's unbelievable.
>> All the dolphins cruising past like awesome.
>> Heaps of like water wildlife actually cruises past. There's also >> there was a Jong last time.
>> Yeah, Jong. I've seen them.
>> Surf. There's a cafe uh on the way to the north north point. If you go the inland track, you can go to the cafe and get food and supplies if you need it.
>> There's glamping tents in there. Um >> there is there's a there's a couple of houses. I don't think those ones are sort of locals only in that area, but >> there is houses behind the resort that you can rent out.
>> And then you got the whole east coast. A lot of that can be camped on. Um, yeah, plenty of >> We've gotten the east coast pretty good a few times.
>> We also got an epic camp at the south last time on the other side of the resort with Zane and >> Oh, we did just to the south of the resort. That was a great spot as well.
>> There's a great camping all around Morton.
>> All around Morton. It's fantastic.
>> So, we're with that in mind.
>> This one's tricky. Fishing or surfing on Morton.
>> You can surf North Point.
>> It's sort of in between.
>> I reckon it's an it's both.
>> It's a It's a in between. Um, it's not like insane for fishing, but it's pretty good still because you get >> all that water running in round the corner in the passage. So, there's everyone they go up and they fish off the the sort of northwestern side of the island.
>> Um, but man, it gets riper surf there, too. Like, I've had some great surfs on that point.
>> Um, and I've surfed the east side, too.
>> I'd say both. Yeah, cuz the east coast get how good it was that time. Anyway, >> yeah, I was scared because I was the only person out and can be very sharky.
It's a little bit eerie at times.
>> All right, so crowds, I reckon crowds actually not too bad.
>> Pretty minimal >> because you can only get there on that mat if with a vehicle >> and so there's only certain amount of people that can go over at a time and a certain amount that can come back at a time.
>> And uh but as soon as you add the the factor of you need a full drive to go anywhere but the resort, >> it cuts down >> cuts down the population. It cuts down all those people that couldn't even take a car. So, >> yeah.
>> So, it's it's only Yeah. full drivers and whoever staying at the resort.
>> I would say Morton is uncrowded because of how difficult and expensive it is to get there.
>> Yep. I agree with that. Morton's Morton's uncrowded. I'm going to call it uncrowded.
>> Standout feature.
>> I've got one.
>> Okay, you go first. I don't think there's bloody anywhere else that I can think of where you can camp in your rooftop tent looking out at the sunrise and there's cruise ships right in front of your feet.
>> Yeah, I'd say that's a standout.
>> Camping on the beach and there's full size the biggest cruise ships on Earth >> or tankers even. Like there's there's some very impressive boats. The Mad Huies went past us last time. That was cool. They waved. I don't think he knew who we were, but he waved. I just think it's so cool that that's a standout feature to me.
>> Yeah. Yeah, that's probably Yeah, I like that. I like that. I think my standout feature of Morton is the size of it.
It's the perfect size. And let's say the wind is absolutely howing in on the west side. You're just 20 minutes, you're on the on the east, and you're having a ripper time.
>> No matter what, you can escape the wind >> within half an hour.
>> And the weather >> and the weather within half an hour.
Yeah.
>> Oh, and that's the other weird standout feature. This is bizarre.
>> It doesn't rain there.
>> Every time there, >> every time we've been there and you watch Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sunny Coast getting absolutely smashed by rain.
>> There's lightning and stuff.
>> Lightning and it just goes around Morton. It just It doesn't Someone in the comments let me know why that is.
Cuz I've seen it too many times.
>> I don't know. I've seen some horror stories over there.
>> True.
>> We've just been lucky. Maybe.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We're We're getting to it.
>> Next up, guys, this one's pretty famous.
Fraser Island.
>> So, >> there's many different ways to get to Fraser Island.
>> There is. Actually, there is. There's four.
>> So, you can uh uh charter a flight in light aircraft, >> which we have done.
>> We've done that. So, we went on the light aircraft with a group of us. We were >> They drop you on the beach.
>> Literally land on the beach where people are driving and stuff.
>> It's one of five or six runways they've got.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. They got a few on there. So, a few different spots, but where they dropped us was directly next to a diesel Pajgerro that we all piled into and went around the island.
>> Went around the island and then we jumped back in that aro and went home.
>> It was unbelievable.
>> Absolutely unreal. So, if you are limited for time and not limited for funds, >> cheap, >> you can fly in, drive around, and have an epic day on Fraser Island.
>> Um, so that's one option. You There's two fairies running currently um for vehicles.
>> One is from the infamous Inskuit Point, >> which I've still never had a drama with, but uh >> the other one's from Riverhead straight over to the Kingfisher Resort.
>> Correct. So you can drive >> BM all the way to that one and when you get off that one you're also on BM >> a little bit of BM around the resort.
They've got housing there and it's all like sort of bumen so you can wait till you're over to let your tires down on that one. Insip you're going to want to tires down right away.
>> Um >> there's a car park before you head out onto Insk. That's where you pull up there your tires down and um and cruise on through. Highly recommended before the infamous inscape boy.
>> It's very common for people to take their boat from Harvey Bay across. So another option.
>> Yep, we did that. We >> can do that for more than two, I should.
>> Yeah, we actually uh we hired one boat and one of the boys had a boat that was for Nathan's birthday or something.
>> Uh and we stayed at Wamba, which you can only access via boat. You cannot get there via car. So it's one >> that particular camp anyway. that particular camp. You can actually get to the other side of the river by car, but it's not as nice.
>> So, I'll just give you the price for the ins skip ferry. That's 140 return. Um, >> probably the most common.
>> The most common, the riverheads one slightly more expensive difficulty or Fraser Island. What are we calling Fraser Island?
>> Uh, Fraser Island has some pretty difficult parts in in the >> Fraser is a massive island.
>> Giant.
>> Gigantic. So, there is definitely some uh remote sections >> definitely some there's a lot of it's probably probably one of the most remote I think because of the size of it. So >> depending on weather conditions, >> let's just say you're at the very s top the sandy cape and there's like a bloody crazy storm comes through. It's going to wash out all your uh bypass entries, huge sand cliffs.
>> Ask us how we know.
>> Br exposed. And >> we were one of the last people to come down from uh the Cape of Fraser before the big cyclone hit.
>> Yeah. And literally overnight >> the giant surge tides had wiped out all the bypasses. We couldn't >> took over a meter. It looked completely different on the way home.
>> We were like rock crawling to get >> we we had to rock crawl. We tried to reopen one of the bypass tracks and it just it was too steep. We couldn't get up it. So we um >> We had caravan too, did we?
>> I had the camper on. Yeah, it was um so you can get very trapped up there. I record that day medium to to hard in that particular day.
>> That that day was medium to hard.
>> I'd say Fraser overall medium difficulty probably if you're going to go remote want a little bit of experience, but I'm not saying be scared. It's really not that bad.
>> Yeah, don't be scared. Be prepared.
>> The things we got to do with the bloody shot >> and the sand is hot.
If >> you're going to go through Ngala rocks, just remember that place turns into a dust bowl. So carry momentum. Um hold her in second gear. Whatever you got to do.
>> Use your lockers.
>> Use your lockers. And uh uh Nala's medium to hard section at times.
Sometimes you can go through it like a highway. No drop.
>> If you're towing a Hilux behind you, it's I'd say it's hard.
>> Oh, especially when your front diff explodes and you end up in two wheel drive. That was a long day on on Ngala Rocks.
>> All right. iconic spots on Fraser Island.
>> So, yeah. So, the iconic ones are going to be Lake McKenzie.
>> Lake McKenzie.
>> Stunning. Absolutely stunning.
>> The Gala Rocks crossing to the Sandy Cape.
>> Yep. Uh the Sandy Cape in general. I I'd love it up there. Not many campsites though, so make sure you're >> iconic pubs to visit.
>> And um >> you're wrong. Orchid Beach.
>> Orchid Beach is my favorite. Orchid Beach.
>> Well, the Champagne Pools >> Tavern. Champagne Pools. That's also up near Orchid Beach, but Orchid Beach Tavern. Uh there's a survey there. Love that pub. It's great.
>> We got Eli Creek.
>> Eli Creek.
>> The ship record. The Mahino.
>> The Mahino. I'll tell you what, it's getting smaller and smaller every time I visit.
>> It's wrecked.
>> All right. So, notable camping option.
>> That was a good joke.
>> Thanks, mate. Yeah. Cheers.
>> Notable camping options. There's literally I don't know. I'm guessing here probably 15 options for camping.
>> Oh, there's plenty.
>> East coast, west coast, inland, upland.
>> Kungle Creek, another iconic spot.
>> Yeah, >> on the west side there.
>> Well, hang on. That's we might stand out.
>> Oh, sorry. Sorry. Okay. Yeah, >> many options.
>> Too many mansions. So, >> absolutely.
>> Look it up.
>> Yeah, but I I do get asked which is the best. And there's two. I guess this is this would be the standout features. Well, we're we're skipping.
>> We'll get into that with the standout features. Hold the phone.
>> Spoiler alert, it's going to be my stand up.
>> Just holding the phone.
>> Uh, fishing or surfing on Fraser.
>> Uh, fishing. Do not surf in Fraser Island. It is shark city. You will get eaten.
>> Okay.
>> There's been a lot of shark deaths in Fraser Island.
>> We're rating Fraser Island a fishing island, not a surfing island.
>> And the fishing up there is like world class. They have competitions up there for a reason. So >> all right. So the crowd rating on Fraser. This one is dependent on time of year.
>> I'd say let's go for worst case scenario. School Christmas school holidays.
>> Oh god.
>> I mean it's not a problem but one of the features of Fraser is the ins skip berry runs all day long.
>> It does.
>> And it can deliver a lot of people to that.
>> It is just they actually run two.
>> Yeah. Some maybe three up. And they have a lot of backpackers stay in Rambo Beach and higher full drives and come over as well. So >> you can remember there's >> there's tourist buses.
>> There's the riverheads fairies. There's two of them at run at once and then the ins skip bares of two of them at run at once. There's airplanes landing and there's people coming over on boats.
>> Yeah. And tourist buses, four-wheel drive tourist buses that run.
>> Don't be shocked if you I understand most people can only go in the holidays, school holidays, but >> it's busy. I'm not going to sugar coat it for you. It's busy.
>> Look, I've got a bit of a gripe with with people that complain about crowds >> and like, oh, it didn't used to be like that and these people shouldn't go. I think everyone should go >> and I think a crowded a crowded say Eli Creek, >> it's a vibe.
>> It's a vibe. And you you'll still have enough space to have your car >> Yeah.
>> with an awning out >> on the water's edge.
>> On the water's edge. How much more room do you need to yourself? Like everyone can spread out and do their thing and >> and if it is too much guys, there's like 200ks of coastline you can use.
>> You can go anywhere else as well.
>> Like people go like on about flag and they're like, "Oh, it's a car park up there." So is Mal Labar Beach. If you go to >> It's got it's got white line markings and paid parking >> or or Burley Beach or like you know Sydney uh what's that? Bondi Beach. go there and you're shoulder tosh shoulder.
You're not car to car. You're shoulder to shoulder. It's way worse.
>> Yeah.
>> So, sorry that's this is my rant. I I still think I would rather be >> on a crowded double island than a >> with my car and my fridge.
>> They get the point.
>> Oh, you get the point.
>> They get the point. Yeah.
>> Get out there, people. Get out there.
>> Don't wait. Take it.
>> Don't wait. Take the trip. If all you can do is school holidays, you bloody do it for >> for you. What's a standout feature?
standout feature. I'm going to steal yours straight off the bat.
>> Our standout feature is the west camping on the west coast.
>> Camping on the west, Kungal Creek. And just north of of Kungle Creek. I'm not sure what that one's called.
>> The water is unbelievably blue. You have crystal clear rivers behind you. Sunsets over the water again. You see all the boats cruising past. It's really cool.
>> It's insane.
>> The whitest sand on Fraser as the West Coast >> and good fishing either side whether in the river or out on the sea. Um you can park your boat up there on either side.
Um >> freaking amazing.
>> It's Yeah, that that's a standout feature for me. And it's it's usually not many people head over to the west actually. It's not not super busy over there. This would be my eastern side camp spot that I love. It's just north of Orchid Beach.
>> It's very cool there.
>> Just performed in Gala Rocks. There's like dunes that sort of go up. Yeah.
Turns around and there's some dunes. And if you actually walk up and over the top, there's actually a giant giant >> desert desert of sand behind it. Like >> um it's a very cool spot. And then you've got the pub just up the road. And you've also got Orchid Beach Point, uh Wy Point, I think it's called. It's great. We fished off there. We pulled in some big fish, me and the boys, back in the day. And >> so much to see. Um >> it's great. It's a great spot. Love that spot.
>> Oh, hey babe. Yeah. Oh, you you hang.
Mom, get off the internet.
Mom, I'm trying to talk to my girlfriend. Double Island.
>> Super sick.
>> It's not really >> It's funny actually because it's double island, but there's at one end of it, um, it's also called Tar Beach.
>> It's in fact not an island. It's called Double Island because there's two peaks that double up. When you're out at sea looking at it, it looks like two arms.
>> And the strange part is one end of it you have to get there via ferry.
>> It's like I'm talking a 20 m river crossing if that.
>> So we'll get stuck into that. The uh >> Oh, we'll get Well, yeah. Okay. So, >> a double island ferry is $20 return.
>> Jesus Christ.
>> Single car. Yeah, it's the whole thing's been renovated as big ferry now.
>> Which Why didn't they just build a bridge? It's literally 20 m. Well, your other option, guys, is to head toward Rainbow Beach and then take the No, >> uh the freshwater track, >> the fresh the freshwater track through.
Um that's free, but you still going to need your vehicle permits, >> correct?
>> Which can be done daily on double or ti beach or Kula Coast is the permit you want.
>> Y >> So they're $14.90 per day. There is sneaky cameras, so you need to get it for every day you're there. It resets at midnight. Don't do the mistake. Some people think it's a 24hour from the time you buy it. It's not.
>> It's not. So, make sure >> you buy it at 11:00 p.m. You're buying it again in 1 hour and 1 minute.
>> There you go. I actually didn't know that. I just learned something new. I normally buy I think I generally buy a week even if I'm going and going for a couple of days.
>> Yeah. So, a week is cheaper than 3 days in the >> correct. Yeah. I think that's why I generally buy a week. But there's cameras. Okay. Okay guys, everywhere. As soon as you get on the beach, there's a camera. As soon as you go over to the uh the point side, there's camera.
>> All the options have cameras.
>> Yes.
>> Difficulty. I'd say it's easy over there. Very easy.
>> It's very very very easy.
>> You can make it hard for yourself if you uh don't let your tires down and go at high tide.
>> And even then, you'll probably still be fine.
>> Uh Double Island, we're going for easy.
>> Uh highlights iconic spots. The lighthouse. You've got a lighthouse to walk up to.
>> The lighthouse is a cool walk.
>> And that little eastern cove. Unreal for snorkeling, surfing, and >> definitely the the eastern side of the point. Um, >> and then you've got the lagoon side is probably another iconic spot.
>> Yeah, sorry. That's what I was talking about when you >> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Technically, that's eastern point, but north side of the eastern side.
>> And uh my I might string that into my my standout.
>> Sorry, that'll be the western side of >> western side of it. I'm I'm going to string that into my personal standout feature is when you get stuck at high tide, but you're on that western side with the lagoon full.
>> It's all aqua blue and white sand.
Pretty cool.
>> It's fantastic. It's um it's a beautiful spot.
>> Uh so yeah, next up is the camping. So you've only really got one stretch of options. So 15 kilometers of beach. I think there's seven different zones.
Zone one is the closest to the point.
And there is, I believe, two bin sections where >> either end of that >> either end of that. What's that?
>> Fresh water.
>> Freshwater campground.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh actually, yeah. An inland campground with facilities >> with facilities. And also when you head over to the sort of northwestern side of the point, >> there's another toilet there.
>> There is another toilet there. So, >> all right.
>> An eco toilet.
>> So, you're going to give it a fishing or a surfing vibe up there?
>> Surfing. Um >> it uh they it is very famous on the lagoon side, western side for that break >> and even the eastern side's good fun. Um >> yeah, >> if you get that Yeah, if you get that northern side, >> it's well worldass waves.
>> Crowds again dependent on time of year and school holidays. Um again the fairies run all day and you can come fresh water away >> and it's cheap. So, uh, standout day for business is Australia Day up there. Very busy.
>> Very, very busy. And Easter, um, >> Easter Christmas, >> which be careful because every single long weekend they will have police up there. They'll be doing breathalyzer.
They'll be doing >> Yep.
>> Yep. RBTs, speeding, uh, looking out for reckless driving. All these things I agree with. I think they should be there for that, but they're also going to do you for defects. So, just be careful.
>> Be careful.
>> Be careful. flat spot in PE.
>> Sorry, M. He's buddy. He's right. That's all. All right. Yeah. Last last >> rant again. I'm ranting.
>> All righty.
>> Don't get me started on the fuel prices.
>> He said don't start on the fuel prices.
>> All right, we got another one. One you're probably not going to expect.
This one is known as Facing Island.
>> No, Facing Island's great.
>> So, this one's just a bit north of Fraser off the coast of Gladston. M >> and we've taken a trip there. So, I thought I'd throw this one into the mix as well.
>> Yeah, I I like it. I I really enjoyed.
>> And I wanted to like just confuse the audience. You didn't know that was coming, did you? You thought I was going to say Bribby Island.
>> It is. Oh, 5 hours.
>> 5 hours.
>> 5 hour drive from Sunshine Coast >> for us. Um, so you're going to need a ferry. It's actually the Curtis Island ferry. It actually makes a stop at facing your island.
>> Ah, it does.
>> Bit of a fun fairy. You got to reverse onto it.
>> We did reverse onto it, didn't we? They let you off forwards.
>> Yes.
>> Uh so that uh Facing Island ferry 220 return.
>> Jeez. Was it that bad?
>> Mhm.
>> However, no permits. It's free.
>> Oh, that's cool.
>> Free Australia. That's unheard of.
>> I know. It's still the land of free up there. Yeah, that's pretty cool. So, difficulty.
That's a easy. That >> was pretty easy.
>> The facing island is very un >> Well, it's residential uninhabited.
>> So the the other sides are like >> not many people go. So the tracks are very overgrown. All the beaches. There's no tire marks. The locals drive around on quad bikes. They don't even really use it for >> Yeah, it was um it was a cool spot.
Really cool spot. And there's a lot of cool camping areas, too, with nice grass and trees everywhere.
>> I'd call it easy. Um iconic spots. I'd say >> that northern campground in that that little pocket on the west was really nice.
>> Yeah, very nice. Again, West Coast.
>> Um >> um there's also a little uh standout feature for me was like that those inland bit of a desert >> little inland desert stuff that was pretty cool. There's a few motorbikes run through there. You could tell you can see a few motorbike tracks up in the sandunes and things. So >> it was very free up there. It was very cool. I liked It's a nice one if you want something a little different and a little left field. Um, with no nobody, there's no So, getting to the crowd situation, nobody. You're on your own.
>> Definitely uncrowded.
>> Just locals. Um, yeah, this is the one for you there. Uh, fishing or surfing?
I'd reckon fishing on that one.
>> Fishing.
>> Fishing. No surf up there. You're blocked by uh the reef, I think.
>> Yeah, I don't remember seeing any surf there, that's for sure. So, it's a fishing island, not a surfing island.
With all that said and done, what's he want now?
>> Oh, yeah. Oh, no. I haven't told him yet. I'll let him know now. So, TJ Jack has BROUGHT OUT PARTY >> SHIRT.
AND IF YOU'RE WONDERING why I didn't I'm not wearing it. It's a large.
>> It's a large. It fits me. I get the first one.
>> That is the sample. The final sample, >> the no wasted weekends one.
>> So, we've got party shirts, guys. Says don't wait trip and no wasted weekends.
Pretty cool print. They're on the neon sort of Yeah, Mac is the model for bloody. It looks They're comfy. They're very comfy.
>> I I actually have some in development, too, but they're >> It's been 6 months and I don't expect it for another 6 months, guys. So, jump on no wasted weekends.
>> Yeah, >> if you're in the market for a party shirt, >> it's very cool.
>> I wanted to just rip off this design, but I thought that might be very nice.
>> I think you've done a great job. Very good.
>> Oh, jeez.
>> Stop raining. Okay.
>> All right. So, >> all right. Best for beginners.
>> Best for beginners. What do you reckon, mate? Like >> Strroke Island.
>> Strab broke. Yeah, you're right. Because there's bmen everywhere. There's people to help you.
>> There's IGAs. There's shops. Yeah.
>> You don't even need a four-wheel drive over there, but if you take one, you can go explore.
>> Yep. Yep. So, >> and you're overseas. It feels like you're on adventure, guys. So, >> it's still it's still very adventury, and it's pick your own adventure.
>> All right. You've got the uh best for beginners, straight broke on. Uh, best best weekend trip.
>> Wow, that's an easy one. That's got to be Double Island.
>> Double Island. I agree. It's very uh quick and easy to get to. Even from Brisbane, you can uh do a weekend of there.
>> Yeah, you can literally be there in probably an hour and a half.
>> And really, I mean, you can you can venture up to the point for a day, but you know, you go back to your camp. It's not like at the islands where there's so much to see.
>> Yeah. You're not driving for hours on end to get to anywhere. You know, >> it's definitely a weekender scenario.
100%.
>> All right, this one's uh best for adventure.
>> Oo, I'm going to go I think you I think you'll agree with me on all these decisions, but >> yeah, we have we've already agreed on >> um so I'm going to go Fraser Island because >> that's for adventure. Yeah, you're right.
>> It is the most adventure because you need a minimum of a week to to see >> three quarters of that island. We've literally both been there up near 20 times now.
>> No. No. I like 10 or 15.
>> Twice a year for 10 years.
>> Yeah. Okay. 20 times. Quick math. Um >> still little things here and there. We We go out of our way to find new things, but we still find new stuff.
>> Every time we go, I'll see something new. It's >> that we haven't seen >> that been to. So, >> like it's crazy.
>> It's definitely wins the adventure card.
Uh, next one is best overall.
>> Morton Island. I bloody love Morton Island. It's got everything.
>> I mean, that's why we did a boy trip stand there stand.
>> Mhm. It's just it's central.
>> Has a good time.
>> Close to Brisbane if anyone needs to fly in, you know, and jump in a car and >> Yeah.
>> you know, just Morton Island and you can get around it in a day. It's got a cool pub. It's got a resort. It's got a cafe.
It's over. It's all sand dry. I just I love it. Best overall.
>> So, now you might have worked out we've got one left facing island. What are we given that? I reckon we give it the wild card.
>> It's wild card cuz it's it's random.
>> It's random. So, not many people have heard of it. Um, if you want to check it out, we've got a video on it. But yeah, it's pretty cool. Wild card.
>> Yep. 100% wild card. Not Not a lot there. I think that's why it wins the wild card. Still cool to visit, but not a lot there.
>> Where's this thing keep coming from?
back.
>> That's right. We forgot about that.
