Miami residents are suing President Donald Trump, Miami Dade College, and Florida officials over a planned presidential library on prime downtown land gifted to the Trump Presidential Library Foundation for $10, alleging this violates the Constitution's emoluments clause which prohibits the president from receiving gifts from foreign powers or U.S. states; the lawsuit claims the land, appraised at $67 million, could be worth over $300 million, representing a potential taxpayer rip-off.

Miami residents sue Trump over planned presidential libraryAdded:
This is what the Trump Presidential Library and Museum would look like towering over downtown to [music] be built on land gifted by the state and Miami-Dade College to the Trump Presidential Library Foundation for 10 bucks. Miami-Dade College should be getting something back. State of Florida got $10 that land that could be worth as much as $300 million. And yeah, that's the rip-off. A taxpayer rip-off says Dr. Marvin Dunn, a retired FIU professor who has opposed the project from the start.
Dunn's nonprofit organization is one of the plaintiffs in a new lawsuit alleging the project [music] violates the Constitution's emoluments clause. Does this lawsuit actually have a chance in court? Lawsuit absolutely has a chance in court. We're very confident about it.
Attorney Gerald Greenberg says in the nation's 250-year history, the emoluments clause has rarely been invoked, but this situation, he says, fits it perfectly. And the language of it is crystal clear. The president is limited to the set enumerated compensation and is not allowed to get gifts from foreign powers or in the context that we're in from US states.
That's clearly what's going on here. The land is appraised at $67 million, but the lawsuit alleges the actual sale price could be more than 300 million.
The president spoke about the project last month. It's going to be most likely a hotel, you know, this concept could be office, but it's most likely going to be a hotel with a a beautiful building underneath and a 747 Air Force One in the lobby, which is going to be a trick.
