In high-performance vehicles, the RPM curve should not exceed the boost curve, as this causes the vehicle to 'blow through' the converter, leading to damage and performance issues; proper converter selection and tuning require understanding this relationship to prevent mechanical failures and ensure reliable operation.

WHERE IS MY RPM?Added:
Just pulled up the Hughes. Going to drop off our converter. Like you guys seen, we were having an issue. We're hitting the RPM wall and I'm pretty sure after we sent some logs to Hughes and talked to a few other people, pretty sure that we've been blowing through the converter with this new setup for quite some time.
Um, my boy Richard over at Outlaw, my Amish homie, Amish brethren, uh, kind of shed some insight and said, "Man, there's no way your RPM curve should be faster than your boost curve."
So, kind of opened my eyes a little bit to understanding the converter data. Now that I'm actually looking at data, trying to understand it. Looks like we've been blowing through our converter. So, we're going to take it over here to Hughes and have him make some changes. Let's go drop it off.
Check out this. Let's go.
All right. Over here at Hughes picking up our trans and converter converter data.
>> This video is brought to you by Hughes Performance. Make sure you guys hit me up. We can help get you guys a converter speced out for any of your LS. Big box Chevy, small box Chevy heavy, Mopar, it don't matter what it is, uh, hit me up.
Let's help get you guys a converter speced out. They went through my transmission and everything for me as well. So, Power Glide, you guys need anything like that. Turbo 400, make sure you guys hit me up and we can get you guys set up with something from Hughes.
>> All righty. All loaded up. You ready to go to work? I'm going to put you to work. You're going to you're going to be under there putting this thing together.
Let's go.
All right. Got this thing all back in.
Oh, hello.
Transmission and converter back in.
Ready to set this thing on the ground.
I'm pretty excited cuz I put the dashboard back in, too. So, actually looks like a normal car now inside.
Look, check this out.
factory doors and a dash. Oh my gosh.
What are we going to do?
>> I don't know.
>> Golly, it's a little >> The dash is a little dirty. I got to wipe it down. It ain't been in the car for a little while. But yeah, we're ready. Now we're going to do uh I don't know what else I have left to do. Well, your dad was going to patch a couple of the holes and then we're going to rivet some nut zerts up here so I could actually get that Scott rod panel mounted correctly.
And then I think we're good to test. I don't think the exhaust flange and got a new exhaust flange so we could put our dual exhaust setup on, but it's not going to be here in time. So, yeah, ready to set her down and go testing.
Just got Dud's scrub dubdubbing our mobile home wearing my work shirt that my boys at Holly sent me. Thought that I wouldn't wear it, but it's a good work shirt, boys.
Got this thing all scrubbed. We haven't used the living quarters trailer in a while. Golly, I need to get them my hyroscope.
What cute little baby guys? Just a cute little baby tires. A You think if we water them, you think they'll grow up into something bigger? Maybe.
>> No.
>> No, >> I don't think so.
>> How you guys say I look like a peacock?
Huh?
Anyway, a peacock right here. What?
Anyway, Junker's back together on the trailer. We're heading to Tucson.
They're having a little private test session today. We going to go see what she does.
See if it likes the converter changes when we're there. Uh we're going to make a hit on 28s right away and then we're going to throw them 26es out. Yes, you have now arrived at your destination.
>> Welcome, Race Fan.
Out here at Tuskan Dragway. The KC Turbo guys are nice enough to let us jump in on their track rentals with Casey Turbo and Chance. Chance isn't here yet, but some diesel guys over there doing a little testing and we're going to do a little testing. We're going to leave the 28s on for this first hit. See what happens. We're going to make sure that the converter looks good. Look at the data and everything like that before we put the 26 on just to make sure that the converter change we made was a step in the right direction. So, we'll head up for that pass right now.
Okay. kind of soft, but I'm going A to B. A little tire chatter. We'll give it a little more air PSI and a little more.
Here's your phone. We'll get a little more ramp to it and see see if we can load the converter a little better and see if she likes it. Let's go up for heat number two.
Well, you can see that she was not wanting to go down the track on a CO07 with any amount of power in it. So, we decided that we take the CO07s off and go ahead and throw them little baby radios on. See if she like that.
>> How's your new hat?
>> Yeah, I couldn't find my hat. Lock the sun. I can't let the people see my hair.
>> Crazy.
>> Put that back on.
All right, we got them little baby Tyres on.
Look at Look how silly this thing look.
Look at this. Somebody come over here and look at how silly this looks.
These are little beanie, guys. These are little baby tires. Little baby tires.
Are you actually changing your spark plugs?
>> Yeah, I'm pretending to be a nitrous guy right now. Um, I fig we check the spark plugs. But them plugs, I mean, there's only a couple of them. They don't look too bad.
You guys probably don't even know what you're looking at.
>> You don't probably know what you're looking at.
>> But I wasn't talking about you. I said the people watching.
>> Mhm.
My favorite little baby tire here was not so nice to me today. Not too worried about not being able to get down the track cuz it is super super greasy. And them all-wheel drive diesels over there.
Well, Chance left, but they couldn't even get down the track on four like 30in slicks. They were knocking the tires off. So, just tells me it was super greasy and slick.
uh wasn't really able to kind of cont the converter data was happy or not because we weren't really ever able to make a really good fast pass under power. I mean I think we went 30s or something like that. You know what I mean? And converter looked okay, but there's a few questionable things. We got some oil pressure stuff going on.
Those last two passes we hit some oil pressure safety. Um and she's just getting less and less. Uh, I think about the end of that pass there, she was down to about 25 and she's about 20 or so at idle now from 65. So, we got a little bit of a problem starting to develop and I'm going to have to tear into it and see what the heck's going on. He's so freaking hot out here. Great. You have a tetanis shot? This jank ass trailer is probably going to give you tetanus.
What? Whoa. Where the hell were those at?
I was looking everywhere for those. I had to use my spears.
I guess I was looking everywhere but nowhere.
All righty. So, we got back from Tuskin.
Got back from testing down there in Tuscon and we had a little bit of an oil pressure issue. Cut the filter open. We didn't see anything wrong with it at all. Filter looked great. No chunks or anything like that. The oil did have a lot of fuel in it. So, um, but I did notice that the filter looked like it was kind of suctioned closed a little bit. Look at the race kitty right there.
What are you doing? Kitty kitty kitty kitty kitty. What are you doing over there?
No, you're off. I thought you were going to guide me up, dude. What the hell?
Anyway, it looked like the filter maybe was collapsing a little bit, so maybe it was kind of starving for oil pressure.
uh new filter and stuff, oil change, and she seems to have decent oil pressure right now. I'm going to go out. We put the 28s back on it, threw some weight back in it. We're gonna go out and make a hit and see what the data log shows.
We are here at our undisclosed location in Mexico.
Go Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Well, that pass went okay. We're going to made a few changes. We're going to give her a little bit more boost. Uh, that was a kind of a softer A to B hit.
Give her a little more boost on this pass. See how she likes it. Uh, get a data log. Oil pressure was good. So, that's that's a win right there. That was the biggest thing. I think a combination of our oil getting pretty thin. It was really, really hot outside that day and collapsing that filter as well. I won't be using a cheap filter anymore. So, uh, yeah, I'm happy. That's good. Oil pressure is good. So, let's see what happens with the little boy boost in it.
Well, the oil pressure issue seems to be good to go. Uh, moral of the story, make sure you put a name brand filter in there. I had, uh, I think it was from Amazon or something like that. I had a Amazon filter on this bad boy. Uh, I don't know if it came with the oil pan or where I even got it, but I will be using Cann or Wix from now on. Uh, I don't think we're going to end up making War in the Woods though, just because we're not h we haven't had really a chance to get the data that I would have liked to have gotten on a 26 with the new setup, iron blocking the nose now and whatnot. It's just a little bit different with the 6. Still learning how to power manage with the 6 and everything. And still kind of running into an RPM wall in high gear. little race cutie back there. Uh, still kind of running into that RPM wall in high gear.
Just not really confident enough to drive across country with diesel being what it is. Quite frankly, we broke around here right about now. So, we just going to sit War in the Woods out.
Everyone that's going to War in the Woods, I want y'all to be safe. Have a good time. Good luck to everybody going over there competing. We got to get this RPM wall issue gone so that we could get back to traveling around and racing, you know. Uh, as always, I appreciate y'all watching. I appreciate you telling everybody to watch and come on over here because the more people that watch, it helps us. We appreciate y'all watching.
Man, I really got to be doing something.
I got to cut my hair. I got to shave and all. Thanks for watching everyone. As always, like, subscribe, and share.
