[00:00:01]good day Year fors I hope you are all well and busy studying very hard for this mathematics test or exam that's coming up first of all I would just like to wish you all good luck and I really hope and pray that all of you pass and that you do very very well right okay so you're going to write two papers on the same date as you already know the first paper will be about your financial mathematics which is a total of 50 and then the time is from 9:00 till 10:00 your second paper is on measurement and data handling total of 50 and then the time is from 11 till 12 so you have a small break in between okay so if we go to question 1 you are going to do your question one is about the budget that's now your income and your expenses that's the paper that we have practiced in class we've actually done two of these papers that you have practiced in class you will find it on this paper here okay it's the practice test on question three that is your budget where you will find your income and your interest remember I told you that your income will be normally in the written p or in the paragraph just go and make sure that you highlight it or you underline it so that you can see listen here this is my income and then any money that's been invested where you get some interest that is also your income your expenses will be most of the time it will be in a table form like this one there's my expenses there okay and then just make sure all these are your expenses everything here is your expenses and then that you go and sort them in the income and the expenses and remember to add them all up right then you must also make sure that you understand what's the difference between a fixed expense and a variable expense a fixed expense is an expense that where the money or the amount that's been deducted from the account does not change at all well it doesn't change in that year the amount will stay the same a variable expense is where the amount does not stay the same every month for example your water and electricity you don't use the same amount of water and electricity every month that is why it's a variable expense so make double sure that you understand the difference between a fixed and a variable expense for example your monthly rent that you pay on your house or on a building that does not change it stays fixed okay and if we go back then to our demarcation the next one will be your face slip we have already done two past slips your past slip is also on that um same uh test paper or the practice paper we have done one p slip there on your P slip you will find your earnings and your deductions and then we have done another baselp let's quickly look at that b lip here's another B lip that we have done um just to mention a few few things here the name this is now the employee L Muna that is your employee her position is a cashier and then the word employment means the starting date when did she started working for this company okay then this is the income all the incomes the description normal time overtime um weekday overtime Sunday overtime public holiday overtime the word quantity means the hours how many hours did she work normal time or how many hours that you work Sunday over time Etc then the rate is the rant per hour for instance yeah her normal time is she worked 60 normal hours for this month and it um at a rate of 28 R per hour so it's 60 * 28 and that will give you a total of 1,680 right thank your gross income remember your gross income is before deductions this amount 2500 520 it does not go into your bank account they first have to take off or minus or deduct your deductions okay so yeah her total deductions was the loan for 40 R and then the UIA for 20 rent which was 60 R so they take the gross income minus the deductions and then this will give you the amount for your net pay your net pay is the money that's being paid into your business or your bank account okay then just to mention something as I mentioned in class for yourself go and check how many questions do they ask in one sentence for example what is the employees employees full name and ID number as listed on the pelet here you can see you have a one question the full name and then the second one is her ID number make sure that you go and check you can maybe just write for yourself the one question and then two so that you make sure you answer both questions and you don't lose unnecessary um marks okay then we're going to go back to our um demarcation so the next one after the pay slip is your till slip and your vet the vet you will also find on that um the practice test paper we have done and then the till slip let's quickly first go to the till slip if we go to the till slip this one here here is our till slip I don't know in what format they're going to give it to you but we did practice this one in class remember I told you this it's not a star sign it is a uh Aster sign so they can either give you the aster sign or they can even put a hash sign there this means that these items are vet exemp items meaning that they do not charge or there's no vet being charged on these items okay so that's what you have to look out for just check did a customer pay with a card or cash and then to go to the vet the vet is also on this test paper the practice paper that we've order the practice test we have done in class some vet here on just on I think it's page eight yes on page eight here is the formulas for vet so if you have a price excluding vet and you want to work out the vet you take your price you times it with 15 then you divide it by 100 and that will give you your vet amount only the vet amount then you have to go take your price plus your vet amount and that will give you your final price with vet included if you have a price that is already um or includes the vet already then and you want to work out what is the price excluding that you take your included take your included price um your vet included price you divide it by 1.15 and then you will get your price that excludes the vet for example here so they say the selling price for product a let's make it Sumer a handbag is 850 R but excludes the vet amount okay so remember there's no vet included here they still need to add V that's once excludes vet calculate a vet amount that needs to be added to the price okay so I take my price I times it by 15 like they showed me here and then I divide it by 100 and now it's going to give me the vet amount of 12750 okay so that's only the vet amount now if they ask the question they will normally ask after after that they will ask Q uh yeah calculate the total price of product a that's now let's say our handbag you take the price that excludes the 850 and you plus or add your vet to that and that will give you your total amount remember when you work with money you have to write the r for rent to show that you are working with money 977 comma 50 okay then we go back to our demarcation the next one that we have is profit and loss profit and loss is also on that practice test you can just go through your profit and loss on that simple your practice test and then the next one is your simple interest we have done this as well simple interest right here sorry let me just quickly look for it um our simple interest sorry M just wants to page through it here is our simple interest right remember for simple interest to work out your interest you have a formula that you need to work so interest that's the I is the p is the original amount that you have loaned or deposited the uh amount you started with times the rate uh of Interest times the time in years okay so just to mention and remember this your rate of interest let's say it's 3% or 2% you have to write it as a decimal we're going to look now how we do it okay so for example for example solman took out a loan of 500 Rand with an interest rate of 2% what is the interest out after 3 years now remember this 2% I first have to go and make it a decimal so I say 2% / it by 100 and it will give me 0a 02 so now I can use this rate of interest as it is then so I say together with my um formula yeah I equals the 500 and that I started or Solomon started with times my rate of interest times the time in years which is 3 years and this will give me the interest amount which is 30 R remember you only working out the interest so they might ask you to give the full amount to be paid back then obviously that will be the 500 r that you borrowed or loaned plus your 30 R interest and that will give a total of 530 R okay so the examples are here we've done this in class as well you take your P times your interest rate which you take to a decimal by dividing it by 100 for example 5% / 100 * 3 and it will give you your 120 rent interest amount okay right then we go back to our demarcation to see what's next so that was paper one it's um starts with budget and it ends with simple interest paper two is your measurement and data handling also 50 marks also an hour from 11:00 till 12 section A and section B so section A is the measurements this will be 2D and 3D shapes okay so it's going to be area and volume and I suppose I think they're also going to put perimeter in there okay it's quite a lot of marks if you look here it's 20 marks all together so please please make sure you understand this okay so let's go to our 2D and 3D shapes our perimeter area and um our volume so if we look at Perimeter first now perimeter as I told you in class perimeter is when you walk around something the total length around the outside of the shape the Out Lines you're only going to plus plus plus plus thing you're going to add all the sides and that's it okay for example they can give you maybe you can see here yes they are 2D shaped they might give you a rectangle they might give you a square both of them have four sides so you have to add four sides or they might give give you a triangle and you're only going to add three sides let's take an example this one the rectangle side 1 plus side 2 plus side 3 plus side 4 you're just going to subst um substitute all your numbers in there now remember um if this is 5 m then obviously the cross will also be 5 m if this one is 4 M obviously the cross side will also be 4 m you just go in adding up 5 + 4 + 5 + 4 is going to give you 18 and remember my unit is meter so it's 18 M okay um no need to write any square m or cube met here cuz it's only perimeter this is only per perimeter and they only use 2D shapes for your perimeter Now we move over to area and surface okay here's our area and surface area and surface also 2D shapes okay they might give you a rectangle or a square rectangle normally the opposite sides are the same your length are the same and your width are the same they will give you only two um numbers because you only need two things because it's a 2d shape with have a square remember all sides are the same same size all sides are the same size now because it's a 2d shape your formula only needs two things area equals the length times the width you substitute your numbers in there for example 5 * 3 and then you get your answer and because it's a 2d shape and you multiplied or times two things with one another your answer must be mm square or cm square cm square m or Square kilm this too means Square okay look for words that says Square me area or Surface for example as I've said here area equals length time width because it's a 2d shape only two things 5 * the three okay and then you get your answer and the only reason I've put a u here because remember it is still units but they didn't say is it millim CM meter or kilometer so I just put a units there to show that it's units So it's 15 square units right then the next one is volume Now volume is 3D shapes your volume um Works a bit different um they might give you uh one of these three okay so they can either give you a rectangular prism or a cube remember with a cube all sides are the same or they can give you a they may give you a um cylinder so with a rectangular prism it's the same thing 3D shape so I need three things that's why when I work at a volume it's length times the width time the height okay you substitute your numbers in there 4 * 3 * 2 you get your answer and you say it's so whatever the amount is Cube millimet Cube CM Cube meter cube kilometer remember the three means Cube because you multiplied three things with one another and it's a 3D shape then if the cube the same thing it's length time width time height it's going to be 2 * 2 * 2 because it's a cube all sides are the same um just look out for these keywords okay or they might give you the cylinder now the cylinder is where you're going to use your calculator remember it's also a 3D shape this one nothing has changed also a 3D shape and because it's a 3D shape you also need three things that you must multiply or times with one another okay so your radius is I told you it's half of your circle that's all it means in this case the radius is 1.5 M okay so your formula for this one is volume because you're working out volume because it's a 3D shape on your calculator you don't need anything here because you already have have your uh pi and then you times it with your radius and you have to square your radius and you times it with a height can you see that you have three things your Pi your radius which you have here and then your height which you have here as 3 m so you take your calculator put your calculator flat down but before you do anything on your calculator I want you to always reset your calculator at the back just to make sure it's on the right function I will provide calculators for you on the day that you write mathematics okay I will come in hand out so don't stress too much about it right so we take this formula on our calculator there is my pi sign I press pi and then I must times and what is my radius again it's 1.5 1A 5 and remember I have to square my um radius and that is the square this X2 that is where you square your number okay and then you times it with your height which is three equals then it will give you an answer 21205 Etc now I've written the answer here but remember for for this exam they want you to round off to two decimal places meaning after the comma only two places so obviously this guy is either going to change it or it's going to leave it as it is if it's four and under 4 3 2 1 or zero this zero will stay but if it's 5 6 7 8 n anything five and above it's going to change this number here then that's why it has changed the zero into a one because we rounded it off to the nearest 100 okay so that is your cylinder how you work out the cylinder okay then we go back to the demarcation the next one um your higher order questions and on measurement is they're going to ask like um word problems on these 3D and 2D shapes okay then data handling we did a data handling on um the earthquake activity we have done this one here if you remember now you will see we have done the data handling on the earthquake just to see what's the mean the mode the range the median of let's say intensity magnitude Etc I don't know if they're going to give you a a Bo chart to draw but remember on your y AIS you write your numbers the amount on your xais is your details the date the names or any objects or so comes on your xaxis if they don't give you keys and they ask you to work out the magnitude and the intensity on the different days or whatever they're going to ask you must have a key and then your bar chart must have a name very important cuz you get get um um marks for that yes as well name it cuz these are dates that's why write write the dates there okay so together with this is your paper of your mean median mode and range very very important your mean how do we find the mean the mean is when you add all the numbers up for example 12 + 16 + 4 + 6 + 22 + 12 it gives me 72 that 72 I take it and I divide it by how many numbers there are 1 2 3 4 5 6 there's six numbers I divided and that will give me my mean right the median I want you to remember one very golden R once important Golden Rule you must first go and arrange your numbers that I give you from the smallest right to the biggest one otherwise it's not going to work so they have arranged it from smallest to largest and then you find your middle one or your middle number and that is your median if the numbers are odd meaning they are not even you will have one middle number if they are um even the numbers meaning 2 4 6 8 10 12 Etc you will have two numbers so if there's two numbers in the middle you add them together and then you divide it by two and that will give you your median right then the next one your mode very easy just think of mode it's something that's in fashion it's the one that's seen the most for example here 67 is seen the most that is why 67 is then my mode okay if there are two numbers that are mode let's say there was another 46 yeah then you will have 67 and 46 as your mode you will have two modes if the numbers only shows up once all of them then you write no mode right last one yeah range the range quite easy you always take your largest number and to subtract or minus your smallest number for example 7 9 79 - 4 which gives me 75 okay right then we go back to here that's about it that's your paper too so very important here what I want you to remember is please you must write in a blue pen okay they don't accept any other colors then calculators may be used as I said I will provide this to you guys on the day then must remember units at all your answers whether it's CM millim kilometer and remember for area it is your square and for volume it's your Cube then all answers must be um must be to the nearest 100th that's when I said you have to have two decimal places after the comma for example I've given you an example here 96a 386 that seven is five and above or it's more than five more than four rather so it's changing the eight to a n that is why it's got two decimal places here
