Tropical Depression 2, located in the northeast Gulf of Mexico, is expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Bertha later today and move westward along the Gulf Coast through Thursday into Friday, but significant impacts to Southeast Texas are not expected due to unfavorable environmental conditions including dry air, wind shear, and land interaction that will limit strengthening; while tropical storm force winds may arrive over coastal waters with 5-10% probability, the most likely arrival is Wednesday afternoon into Thursday evening, and some locally heavy rainfall is possible along the coast if outer rain bands extend outward, though the bulk of rainfall will remain on the storm's south and east side.
