To find out, he cut one open, placed it in soil next to a transparent glass panel, and recorded the entire process. After watering it, nothing happened for the first few days, but then roots slowly began growing directly out of the corn kernel and deeper into the soil. By the seventh day, a sprout had broken through the surface and started growing upward. Within a few weeks, it had almost grown into a full corn stock.
