In criminal trials, jury selection requires potential jurors to set aside personal biases, emotions, and external influences to evaluate evidence and apply the law objectively; jurors who express that race would influence their verdict or who cannot impartially consider life sentences are typically excluded from the jury pool.

🚨 Karmelo Anthony Trial LIVE | Jury Selection BOMBSHELL? What Happened in Court TodayAdded:
Collins County Courthouse where this is the second day of the trial for Carmelo Anthony. And actually what we are what they're doing today is still trying to pick a jury pool. All right. They're trying to pick 12 jurors out so that they can start the jury. Now the thing is is that I think they brought in about 400 people. Okay. Some people already got weeded out. So I think they brought in 400 people and I got chance to watch how the jury selection goes. So um the jurse was there of course hold on guys give you his name and I think he did a really really good job. So the assistant attorney his name is Dewey Mitchell. Now he was up first asking questions to the jurors. When I tell you I feel like he did a fabulous job on this. Um he explained to the jurors basically he wants Carmelo Anthony to have a fair trial. So he gave them all the instructions that they needed to determine whether or not they would be a good candidate for the jury for this case. Now he did explain to them that the verdict is from the law plus evidence. It's not anything with sympathy or emotions, social media, any of that. But listen, guys, Carmelo is there today. I got chance to see Carmelo Anthony. Now, he was dressed in a blue suit with a purple um collar shirt. He had his haircut.
He's got a low haircut. When I tell you he looked like a kid, you know, I know he is still a kid. He's 18 years old, but he looked younger than that with his haircut. So, um, and he also looked very scared. Now, he was sitting there beside his attorney, his private attorney, and you know, he just pretty much looked pretty stoic um, and scared. Like I said, he was looking around and stuff, but he looked very, very scared. Hey, Miss Divine. So, um, he was there.
Carmela was there today. Now, one of the questions that was asked to the jurors is that how do you feel about whether or not the defendant testifies?
Okay. How do you feel about the defendant using their fifth amendment not to testify? Now, some jurors did not like that. They said that they would automatically see that that defendant is guilty if he doesn't testify. Um so the assistant attorney pretty much pretty pretty much was saying listen just because he don't testify that does not mean guilt right some people don't know how to you know properly express themselves. Okay. Some people, you know, might get nervous. You know, some some people, you know, may not know how to act under testimony, which not gives them um make them guilty of the crime because we do know that Carmelo's defense team is using self-defense. Now, check this out, y'all. All the jurors have heard about this case. There was not one single juror that had not heard about this case. All of them have. Now, some of them in depth, some of them not really too much, but they had heard about the case. Right now, one of the jurors, right, thank you, Miss Divine, for that 11 month um membership. I appreciate you. Now, um one of the jurors said she was affected when she came on Monday. Now, she was affected by a big banner that the protesters had of Austin and saying that he deserve better. So, that propaganda can affect people, right? So, it that those people weren't here this morning when I got here and I got here at 7:30.
So, the people, you know, the white supremist with the banner with the ski mask on, they were not here this morning. But that one juror who came on Monday said that that did affect her.
Now, we had another because they were asking questions, guys. Asking questions. So, we're going to go over that. So, one of the jurors said that um he could not be a good fit for the jury because he got angry when he went home and looked at his kids that was Austin age. He said he could not give Carmelo Anthony a fair chance. All right. Now, what was What was interesting is that we had some educators there. A lot of teachers, several teachers was there. Now, one teacher was actually out of the Frisco ID. Now, she was actually from that school. So, she say she definitely could not be unbiased when it came to the case. All right, y'all. Um, then we had another juror who said, "I don't think I can send a brother to prison." So, we know he ain't going to be picked. Now, he said it. Black man said he don't think he can send a brother to prison no matter what he's done. All right.
So, I was thinking, you know, I don't think that pretty much they're gonna choose people with kids that are Austin's age. Um, they may not even choose educators, right? But they may.
They may. They may. We don't know, guys.
We don't know. But it's going to be up to those two attorneys to pick that jury pool. All right. So, let's see what else. Okay. So, there was a big question asked. Y'all listen. In these days and times, right, the jurors were asked, would race play a part in their verdict decision?
Listen carefully, y'all. There was some people said yes. They said that they would consider race when making a decision. Can y'all believe that in this age and time, these are grown-up jurors, they said that yeah, they would consider race when determining a verdict.
They sure did.
Um, one juror said that they didn't want to be on a case cuz they were fearing backlash. And we do know that. Um, hey break room.
Hey, Treasure. Hey, Scorpio.
Hey, Miss Divine. Yeah. So, um, one juror said that she feared backlash, right? And we do know that the first judge that was on this case, a black woman, she was docked. She was threatened. They had to get the FBI involved. See, it's the people is playing nasty around here, okay? About this case, right? Because it has that deep racial undertone. Okay?
Now, let's go over some more stuff.
Now, the thing that I found out that I did not know is that not only will the jurors decide the verdict, they would decide punishment, right? And the punishment for murder in Texas is 5 to 99 years in life. Okay. Now, we had a bunch of jurors that said like off bat, I can't give nobody life. They said it off bat. They said they they would never give nobody life. Then they even asked what age was Carmelo, right? One lady made a very good point. She said, "No, I c I couldn't consider life. I feel like he could be rehabable if he was found guilty." Right? But there was a bunch of people that did not want to be a part of sentencing a human being to life in prison, right? Then we had some other people say, well, they would look at the lower part of the um sentencing. So basically guys, listen, when it comes to sentencing, the jurors will sentence him, but also they're going to be given information on whether or not he had a criminal background.
Now, if he has a criminal background, that will not play inside the um um the trial. The p the um prosecutor said that. Right. Now, listen.
his background, right, will also play a fact in sentencing, guys. All right, that is truth. But listen, a lot of people were exed out because they said ain't no way they don't care. They cannot sentence this young man to life. I mean, it was a bunch of them. They said they they would they wouldn't be able to sleep at night.
They said they couldn't lay their head down. and they said, "No, we we can't do that." Okay. Now, I did pick some numbers of jurors that I felt like that would make good for this case. I really did because they, you know, they know that they need to follow the instructions. They know they need to follow facts, the law and evidence, right? They know how to take out their emotions or their trauma or their life out of this. And in order to get a verdict, right, they need to know the law and the evidence of the case. Okay. But like I said, we had some jurors say they couldn't even take the race off the table. They would look at the race to decide the verdict. Yes.
Yes, ma'am. They said that.
They said that. Y'all y'all guess who here?
>> North Carolina.
>> Y'all look who here.
>> I didn't even know who he was.
>> I'm online. Y'all, this is North Carolina Beach.
>> What's up, y'all? We in here getting the information, bringing it to y'all. I'm telling you, Legacy Media, watch us.
Okay. True Crime Auntie.
>> Yes. Thank you. I'm telling y'all, we over here working together, y'all. Like, working together.
We are not ain't no drama.
Ain't nobody competing. We are all here working together, y'all. But yeah, that's pretty much what's happened for the jury selection. I will have more for you guys. Um, so now we're going to go into the the um defense attorney asking jurors questions, right? So that's the next part. We were just on 30 minutes for recess. And that's all I had to bring to you guys. I wanted to, you know, keep you guys up to date on this case with facts, right? Cuz y'all know your auntie right here. Okay. I love y'all so much.
