2 rounds of severe storm threats on MondayAdded:
Let's now get another check of your first alert weather. Meteorologist Kylie Miller here with a day that we need to stay weather alert.
Yeah, so we've been telling you about this weather alert for days now and it's finally here. Make sure all of your devices are charged. We are currently starting the day with cloudy sky conditions. It is going to be a gray and gloomy day. Already dealing with some of these rain showers starting to push through our western sections. Most of us just dealing with light rain right now from the city of Chicago into northwest Indiana, but zooming in into LaSalle County and then back up towards DeKalb County, some heavy rainfall starting to move through and then just off towards the west, places like Sterling, Princeton, those deep reds. That's indication of those heavy downpours that you can see those lightning strikes, too. A lot of cloud-to-ground lightning.
So, this is a big complex this is that is coming our way, already sparking up numerous warnings and watches. So, we have the potential for that across our area later on this afternoon into the early evening hours. So, the main threat is going to be to the south of us, the level four out of five on the risk scale highlighting St. Louis, but for us here across Chicago, a two out of five on the risk scale. So, this means scattered strong to severe storms will be in the forecast. So, this has actually been trimmed down to a two rather than a three that it was yesterday.
So, we're seeing this wall of rain showers and thunderstorms roll through until about 2:00 p.m. That is going to be very blustery with our winds where I think a wind advisory will go into effect until at least this afternoon.
And then closer to dinner time, this is going to be the window that we that we have the potential for some strong to severe storms. That's going to be rolling through. Finally, that cold front pushes through by 10:00 and then beyond that, we are finally drying out.
Rain is going to be a huge concern though. We're talking about a half an inch to an inch and a half. So, for the Fox River, still dealing with flood warnings, we're just going to be adding to that. Today's high temperature 67°.
That dinner time severe storms threat is expected and then tonight temperatures will dip down into those low 50s. The thunderstorms end, but it's going to be staying breezy as we look ahead of the extended forecast, but the good news is after today, finally quiet weather. We could use a huge break and we're going to be getting that especially as we look ahead to Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday plus the upcoming weekend. So far, the tornado count across Illinois has been 99 tornadoes and unfortunately, I think we're going to be adding to that later on today.
