Dream a Little Dream (1989) is a cult classic film starring the 'Two Corys' (Corey Feldman and Corey Haim) that tells the story of an accident swapping the minds of a married older man and a teenager chasing his dream girl. Despite being a box office flop with a $12 million budget and only $5.5 million in returns, the film has developed a strong cult following over time. The movie features a good soundtrack, solid acting (particularly Feldman's portrayal of an older man in a teenager's body), and a story that holds up well upon rewatching. Critics gave it a low 9% score, but audiences rated it 67%, demonstrating that the film's appeal lies in its unique premise and the chemistry between the two leads.

What's up guys? Welcome to another episode of Movie Resurrection review.
Tonight we are talking about Dream a Little Dream.
All right, so Dream a Little Dream. What is it about? An accident swaps the minds of a married older man and a teenager chasing his dream girl.
And we'll get more into that a little bit down the way.
But Tim, first why don't you tell the people where they can watch this?
>> Uh you guys can currently watch this on Prime, uh Tubi, and Plex.
Yeah. Who Who wrote this? Uh the writer writers are Mark Rocco, Daniel Jay Franklin, and D. E. Eisenberg. And who directed it? Mark Rocco. Mark Rocco.
>> Yes. He's the director. That happens often. Yeah.
>> I think.
>> often. Yeah. So I mean, I don't know.
Maybe I'll direct the movie we're writing right now. I don't know. We'll see.
Um the release date on this one was March 19, 1989 with a budget of $12 million.
I think I know where most of that money went.
>> [laughter] >> But it only made 5.5 at the box office.
So >> Yeah, it was flop. Flop. Flop.
>> Flop.
Um but that's not uncommon with movies.
>> You know, well not in movie Well, movies on this show at least. That's not uncommon.
>> So Okay, so uh first and foremost, the main cast on this one is Corey Feldman and Corey Haim, otherwise known affectionately known as the Coreys back in the day because well, they're both named Corey and they did quite a few movies together back in the day. Lost Boys, License to Drive, this one Dream a Little Dream. I think there was a second one as well. Yes, Dream a Little Dream 2. And there was a movie called I want to say it was Blown Away.
And it was a more serious role for both of them. I think that was a little bit into the '90s, like after after this.
Um little There's There's two movies called Blown Away.
I'm talking about the Corey movie.
Not the other one. So anyways, they're both going after the same girl and it's like a dramatic Okay.
>> kind of thing.
>> I wonder if that was in the contract the Coreys >> I don't to be like, "Yo, if you you know, we're package deal, you want me or you got him?"
>> I think it was just a good idea at the time to put them in movies together just cuz they were both in their own right, they were just hot.
Yeah. Like That's not like looks-wise, but just the hot commodity at the time.
Yeah. So as far as child actor goes, actors go at least. Um so Meredith Meredith Salenger? Salenger. Uh played Lainie.
Uh she was in Journey of Natty Gann. Yeah. Journey of Natty Gann?
>> I don't know. I've never heard of that one. But that was She didn't do much.
>> No. Uh another one, Jacob Jason Roberts, uh who was Coleman.
He was in Philadelphia, um Tora Tora, uh St. Valentine's Day Massacre. Um he um he's been doing movies since all the black and whites, you know? He's He's a Since like the '40s or something, right?
Something like that, yeah.
And also, we got Matt Adler.
And he was Dumas. Dumas.
>> Dumas. So you might remember this guy.
He was in Teen Wolf.
He was uh Lewis. Lewis. Lewis in Teen Wolf.
>> right? Yeah.
>> He was in Flight of of the Navi- Navigator. He played um uh Joey Kramers' older younger brother. Yes.
Actually watched that 2 days ago.
Yeah. Kids love it. Uh yes. So that is who starred in it.
Let's get to the good, the bad, and the ugly. What you got on the good?
Good, bad, ugly. We got the soundtrack.
The soundtrack is good. Actually, one of my favorite songs Well, the two favorite songs on there are Rock On by What's his name? Essex. Something Essex.
And then uh the actual title song, Dream a Little Dream. Mhm. Uh now this version >> bright above you. This specific um version is Mickey See Mel- Mel Tormé and Mickey something or other. So it's kind of like faster. It's been It's been done several times, kind of like like Blue Bayou.
It's been done a million times, but my favorite version is Roy Orbison's.
But it's faster, more dancey, you know, stuff like that. More upbeat. Yeah. The soundtrack is really good in this.
Acting is good. I mean, look, the Coreys aren't winning awards, but for what it was, it was actually pretty decent acting. I think Corey Feldman really was trying to show his depth and range on this one because he played Coleman, who was the old man, but he's doing it stuck in a 17-year-old body.
>> 17-year-old body.
>> Right. Right. So he's he's acting old even though he's young. Yes.
>> make sense?
>> Yes. Yes. Um and this kind of goes along with the story. The story is really good. It's again, in the '80s, swap places movies were just a thing. Um and this is just one of those things that just kind of fell into that category. Uh but you know, it was good and Coleman is is Well, he The dude's old in the movie. Mhm. So he has to go and become a teenager in today's world and he's completely lost. Yeah. So he's trying to figure out and this is where I say like the acting with Feldman, Coleman's trying to figure out cuz he's in um Feldman's body.
>> Coleman's body. He's trying to figure out how to become a teenager and and just really had to figure out high school. Yes. As an old man, he's trying to figure out high school. Right. Um Yes. So yeah, I mean Yeah, no. I think the story's good. The acting's good. The soundtrack is good.
>> Yeah. So What we got on the bad on this?
>> Okay, so this is a doozy. Uh we got nothing on the bad. Yeah.
Uh ugly? Nothing. Nothing on the ugly. I think it's a pretty solid safe movie. Um safe in the way where it's not going to be super cheese and you're going to be like, "Ooh, this is just lame." And no, I think it's pretty solid. I agree. I agree. Here we go. The tomato and popcorn Are you kidding me? I just saw this.
So the tomato score, which those of you don't know is the critic score, tomato was 9% and there was 11 views. 11 reviews. So one person liked it.
>> [laughter] >> Of 11 people, one person One person That literally is the math.
One person gave it some good Yeah. Or everyone gave it once.
>> [laughter] >> Yeah.
Uh but what the hell do reviewers know?
Movie critics don't know right?
Yeah. Um the popcorn.
Uh we got it at 67% with 5,000 plus watches.
Yeah. That speaks for something. Yeah.
That speaks that the reviewers don't know what the they're talking about and >> The people like it. The people like it.
>> Or at least liked it better than the critics. Yes. So all right, let's go with Let's go with our scores. The Chode Meter.
I'm going eight. Eight? Eight. I'm going eight.
Watched it as a kid.
We rewatched it. It did not disappoint.
It held up. Um liked it.
Um everything hit. The soundtrack hit.
The acting hit. Everyone did what they were supposed to. Um actually was David Essex is the guy's name. Sorry.
>> [laughter] >> You're You're good. Um the story was actually a a little bit deeper than I remember as a little kid.
Uh so that was a pleasant surprise and it just didn't disappoint. I loved this movie as a child. We watched this movie a lot. We watched it a lot together. I continued to watch this movie into adulthood. I still liked it into adulthood. Admittedly, it's been a little while since I've seen it.
Watching it again, there was a little bit of cheese and I pointed it out.
There was a little bit of cheese to it that I didn't notice before.
That being said, I'm going to give it an eight, too. Eight?
>> Hell yeah.
I love this movie. I really do love this movie.
>> Eight. Eight.
>> Yeah. So you know, go watch it. Let us know what you think. If you've seen it and you think we're off or you think we're on, let us know, please, in the comments. Go watch it and come back and be like, "Yo, you guys were right. I enjoyed the film." Or you guys were way off. Movie sucked. I don't ever want to see the Coreys again. Whatever the case may be. Well, if you say the the latter one, then you're wrong. But yeah, you know, everyone's entitled to an opinion, including us. Right. You're just Your opinion is wrong. All right. Well, as always, if there's a movie you would like to see us review, put it down in the comments and maybe we pick it.
Um but yeah, Dream a Little Dream.
Eight. Yeah. Eight. Cool. Check you later. Check you later.
