Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd (2007) pioneered the ensemble storytelling approach in Bollywood by featuring six couples on a honeymoon trip, each with unique relationship issues, secrets, and insecurities. Directed by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, the film showcased well-developed character backstories and included bold queer narratives, representing a departure from formulaic Bollywood storytelling. The film's grounded approach to relationships and human drama contrasts with contemporary Bollywood's tendency toward extreme or formulaic narratives, making it a significant but underrated gem in Indian cinema history.

Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd: Zoya Akhtar & Reema Kagti’s Forgotten Gem | Top 5 Hear Me Out MoviesAjouté :
Honeymoon Travels. Oh, I love Honeymoon Travels. It's a great movie.
>> I think it was people did like it. Yeah, but it didn't make money and all. It didn't make money and I think people sort of forget it because Zoya and Reema both have done so much stuff. And Zoya was actually the first AD on this. Mhm.
And Reema it's a Reema film.
>> It's a Reema Kagti So this is their first collaboration. Nice.
>> Not Luck By Chance, not Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's actually here where it starts.
>> Nice. And you can see it's got an it's got all the hallmarks of a Zoya Reema thing, which is like it's an ensemble.
Correct.
>> They're traveling somewhere.
>> Yeah, dysfunctional relationships.
>> relationship and also it's got that Extra-marital affairs, yeah. Right. And it's got that Made in Heaven template of each couple. In Made in Heaven there were separate episodes where each couple has an issue that they're dealing with.
Here it's all six couples are here.
They're there on this trip and they've got their individual issues, which are actually very unique and cool. Yeah. So like there are six couples. Boman Irani and Shabana are a pairing in this, which is so cool. Yeah. Uh Amisha Patel is in it.
>> Amisha Patel is in it.
>> And Vikram Chatwal who has now lost his mind. Yeah. Yeah.
>> Yeah, he Yeah, he burnt a dog and all. Like he's crazy crazy.
>> What's happening? What? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh god. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a whole mind field. I was going to say his character's very fun in this because he's like a closeted >> Yeah. He's questioning his sexuality.
>> Correct. Yeah, it's very interesting actually.
Sandhya Mridul and that guy who's that foreign NRI guy. Okay. So he basically marries her because he's a queer man.
Oh, okay.
>> desperately looking for someone to move on from her previous heartbreak.
>> Right, right, right. So they get married and he for him it's a marriage of convenience.
Uh but he's faking that he's into women.
Mhm.
So Okay.
>> And there's an interplay there. And the most fun one Mhm. is Abhay Deol and Manisha Lamba playing superheroes.
>> Correct, correct because they get along so well.
>> and are superheroes that are married. In this in this very grounded comedy, they're superheroes who have never fought because superheroes never fight.
Correct.
>> But they have one fight every 20 50 years or something like that.
And I like that thing like randomly putting that in this movie. Yeah, that was a lot of fun. I remember being like, "Huh?
Like that. KK Menon Yeah. to just have fun.
Him and Riya Sen are appearing, I think.
Raima, Raima Sen, sorry. Him and Raima Sen and he's kind of like very uptight and like a controlling husband.
And he does acid accidentally.
And that's when Sajna Ji Vari Vari starts playing and that's why he is a delight in that song.
He is having such a great time.
And like you don't get to see KK Menon dance really. I mean you get to see him act well. You never get to see him just like do a Bollywood dance number.
Also that song is very funny because it's like mocking the whole I'll do everything for my husband type of song.
So it's fun. Honeymoon Travels I had that very and it kind of flexed their muscles a little bit of how they can do ensembles and these travel movies and have which is always a Zoya Akhtar's strength and a Reema's strength is they have really well-written backstories for each character, no matter who it is. You know.
Honeymoon Travels also like when we were growing up this movie came out, right?
And movies like that are not really made anymore because around the same time there was another movie called Just Married directed by Meghna Gulzar. Oh, okay. Okay, that had Fardeen Khan and Esha Deol in it. It has a very lovely song. That's how I know about this movie. It's called Jaagte Raho.
And that also was about this couple who have been arranged marriage and they have gone to Tio wherever for a honeymoon and it's like in this resort and there's six other couples or three other couples, you'll be a number of couples and every relationship has its own problems and how under the cover of that these two get closer seeing the other relationships and whatever their issues are. One is like actually they are both married to other people but they're having an affair and they've come here. One is in a very old there's Kirron Kher I think in it. Like it's a good cast in that way. Definitely Honeymoon Travels is the superior movie.
But it was a clever fun idea like It's a great idea and it was a nice time to have these kind of movies to come on the big screen. We don't really have Right.
this anymore of like watching this these very human dramas which are like you know about relationships. the stakes are not like you said even in Bhavesh Joshi it's not like they like they have to save the world they are just trying to live which is >> people trying to survive and like make connections and I like I miss that a lot in films >> I like messier relationships also now it's kind of like very cookie-cutter correct >> I miss those relationships like oh they're having an affair but like there's this issue >> and they're not bad people >> yeah they're people that made mistakes yeah it's either become you become like a Kabir Singh animal which are they I know it has its audience but like it's that extreme or it's like just bland like there is no >> or it's full sanskar >> correct it's I don't know >> come on get remake these it's okay >> remake these movies very nice honeymoon travels >> honeymoon travels mini series Saat Khoon Maaf mini series yeah again honeymoon travels is very much I mean they made it they made Made in Heaven I think that was >> yeah that's I feel like that the template of like each issue we're tackling within these correct correct >> episodes >> what a concept >> has a cameo I think he shows up on a bike and he steals away what's the wife of Ranvir Shorey in this whoever the wife of Ranvir Shorey is she's miserable in the marriage >> okay and he he's the lover who she didn't want to marry him who was Amisha Patel with that guy who Vikram Chatwal okay okay >> and she doesn't know that he's having these thoughts about that NRI guy correct correct correct correct >> which is also interesting a lot of queer sort of representation in that those kind of stories as well >> [cheering]
