In geolocation challenges, identifying brand logos on clothing (such as 'Lle' from Llay, a Montreal-based Canadian brand) can provide crucial geographic clues that narrow down search areas, and recognizing geographic patterns like clusters of similar landmarks (such as memorial benches) in specific regions (like Ottawa, Canada) can significantly accelerate the location identification process.

Can I find this small park? - Geolocation S4E077Added:
Yo, no more hide-and-seek. Your show's on.
>> Hey, Jose Monkey. Can you find me?
>> You asked me to figure out where this video was recorded, so I did. Hi, I'm Jose Monkey, and I find people who ask to be found. Guys, today's video showed me a location that was really tricky to find.
>> Well, you always say that.
>> Well, it's true. Anyway, when I first looked at it, I didn't know if I'd be able to get this one, but one key clue made all the difference. Check out the video.
>> Hey, Jose Monkey, can you find me?
So, what can we see? This person asks to be found, and they show us what appears to be a park. We've got a walking path here and several benches. They're standing very close to this bench, which has what looks like a memorial plaque on it. I'll come back to that. As they keep turning, we can see a fairly large body of water here. I thought maybe a lake or a large river. They keep turning and come all the way around to where they started and then wrap up the video.
Okay, real quick before anybody says anything. No, there is no blocking penalty on this video. Yeah, I wouldn't think so. Well, trust me, I've been reading the comments lately and these guys are constantly trying to get me to throw the flag. But this one is fine.
There's plenty of good footage here of the person is not blocking the screen. I think they just like seeing pictures of Chopper Dog. Yeah, well, I think they just like this part.
All right, let's continue. Okay, now at first I wasn't really sure where to start with this one. I kind of got vague Chicago vibes from the water here, but that was just a hunch and I wasn't feeling particularly confident about it.
So, I figured these benches were probably the type of memorial benches that people can purchase to honor loved ones who have passed. And I tried really hard to see if I could read the writing on this plaque here. I was thinking that if I could figure out the name that we see on this bench that I might be able to search for it and find this particular bench or failing that, maybe find like an obituary for the person whose name was on the bench. Dang, that's kind of dark. Well, it hardly mattered because I couldn't read it. My best guess was that it was two words.
And that this first one was pretty short, probably two letters, like maybe H O or H A. And the second word looked slightly longer, but still fairly short.
I thought maybe three or four letters.
And it looked like maybe it started with a P, but I don't know. I can't read what it says. So, I tried to figure out if there was anything else in the video that I had missed. And that's when I noticed that this person had a strap across their chest, probably for a bag or something like that. It didn't take too long to figure out that that said Lle. Llay is a clothing and accessories brand. And I didn't really know much about them, but from their website, I discovered that they are based in Montreal, and they are proudly Canadian.
Okay, so maybe this is somewhere in Canada, possibly near Montreal. So guys, I just started googling for photos of memorial benches near bodies of water, and I tried adding Montreal to my search, and I actually got something that looked promising. The first photo I found that looked like the bench in the video was this one. That was near the Red River in Ottawa, which I guess is kind of sort of close to Montreal. So, I went to go check it out, but unfortunately, that did not look like the right place. But I kept digging and I got another result that looked similar. That was at some place called Champlain Park. But even though the bench looked right, it wasn't super close to like a lake or river or anything like that. So I kept looking and I found a third result that looked promising. And I went to check it out and it was just in the middle of some neighborhood somewhere, but the bench did look right. At that point, I was starting to worry that maybe these benches were really, really common and you'd find them in parks all over Canada. But that is when I realized something about the three locations I had looked at. They were all in Ottawa.
Ottawa is, of course, Canada's capital and is in the southeastern part of Ontario. And all three of those benches I looked at were very close together. So I felt like this bench in this video had to be somewhere near there. The obvious choice would be somewhere along the Ottawa River, but I had no idea where.
So I tried looking for parks in the Ottawa area and I found this article which listed what they called 14 great waterfront parks in Ottawa. But I went through that list and I didn't find the right place. So guys, eventually I set the search engine aside and decided to just look for this place with my eyeballs. I pulled up Google Maps and zoomed in on Ottawa and just started looking along the river trying to find a place that looked right. and I zoomed into a few different spots, but I really wasn't having very much luck at first.
Then I happened upon this unusual hook of land that looks like it's some sort of breakwater that protects this nearby marina. Now, I didn't think I saw anything in the video that looked like a marina. So, I was a bit skeptical about whether this could be the right place, but from the 3D view on Google Maps, I could see that we do have a path and what looked like they might be benches.
So, I started looking at the user submitted photos on Google Maps for that location. And as I did, I found this one. And even though it's a bit dark, it looks like we might have the same style of benches here. Incidentally, these lamp posts also look like one of the lamp posts that we see in the video. So, that was encouraging, but I still wasn't sure if it was right. At least I wasn't until I saw this photo. Check out these trees over here. And now look at the ones in the video.
Guys, that was it.
You were here at Harry Kingston Point in Ottawa, Ontario.
So, finding the exact spot here was a little bit tricky. That photo that I found did not give the exact coordinates. It just told me it was somewhere at Harry Kingston Point. And there is Google Street View coverage here. But as it turns out, the street view coverage stops before the spot that I really wanted to look at. So, it was hard to confirm, but based on the 3D view that we see on Google Maps and the placement of the benches and the way all the trees are aligned, I'm pretty sure that you were right here next to this bench. So, what does the bench say?
Well, I still didn't know, bro. I couldn't find any photos of it, and I was having trouble figuring out what it said, but I had an idea. Oh, here we go.
Time for a side quest. Now, I am not personally close enough to Ottawa to go check this out myself, but I figured that one of you guys might be. So, I put up the bat signal to see if anybody in the Ottawa area could help out. Several people responded willing to help, but the first to do so was Mike. I gave Mike the coordinates for this bench so that he could go there and take a picture of it so we could figure out what it said.
And I just got the photo from Mike a few minutes ago, and here it is. As we can see, it says Hoofi, so I was actually pretty close to reading this. The dates on the plaque indicate that Hoofi passed in 2006. RIP dog. Okay, side quest complete. Thank you, Mike. And thank you to Mike's daughter, Sam, who actually helped out by taking the photo that I just showed you. I really appreciate you guys doing that. It was going to make me crazy if I didn't figure out what that said for real. And in this case, the side quest actually helps to complete the main quest because we now have definitive proof that that is exactly where this person was standing. Okay, it's time to check which previous location was closest to this one. And this time, I got to go way back to the place I found in season 1, episode 41 in Morristown, New York. That is 87 km or about 54 miles away from the spot. Guys, go check out the interactive map of all the places I found for you so far from the videos you've sent me. And if anybody else wants me to find them, record a video where you say, "Find me, Jose Monkey," or something like that on camera. Or hold up a sign that says something similar.
