Lasroeras were the woman who played rock in Mexico and all over Latin America from the late 1950s onward in a scene that was built by men, controlled by men, and written about by men. Today we are focusing on Mexico.

[00:00:23]Las Mari Jets were the first allfemale rock band in Mexico. Formed in 1960 led by Maria Antoneta Losano. They played original rock on the same circuit as Lost Teen Tops and Loss Rebel del Rock.

[00:00:36]One became a national icon. The other was written out of the history books.

[00:00:40]Last Cheeks formed in the late 1960s as the second all female rock band in Mexico. Television producers reportedly told them to look modest, decent. They wore miniskirts and played at full volume. Olivia Molina was charting in 1965 before the industry pushed her towards softer pop because rock was considered too aggressive an identity for a woman to sustain long-term. Baby Batties performed at Avandereo in 1971 alongside Mita Kampo. Two women, 300,000 people, an entirely male bill except for them. Every one of these women was pushed out, softened, uncredited, or simply not remembered. The industry knew exactly what it was doing. The record just pretended otherwise.
