New Horror & Thrillers to watch in JuneAñadido:
Hi everyone. Welcome back to Laura Loves Horror. Can you believe that we are already in June? This is crazy to me. So today I thought I'd share with you all of the upcoming movie and TV releases on VOD streaming and in theaters. We've got psychological thrillers this month, religious horror, and we have a lot of creature features. So now we know that summer is upon us. We have a ton of creature features this month, which is not actually it's probably one of my least favorite horror genres, but there'll be something for everyone this month. If you like this video, please give it a like. I'm testing something new here and maybe I can do this every month for you just to share what's up and coming. I will also be sharing below in a pinned comment in the video description each timestamp for each of the movies and TV series. And I'll also share where you can watch them online or in theaters. Let's get into the video.
So, first on the list on June 2nd, we have Devotion, Obedience, or Betrayal, which is a miniseries that will be released on Paramount Plus. This is a three-part documentary series exploring Gloria, which is an infamous religious community in New Zealand. So, the series examines what happens when devotion to a belief system collides with questions of freedom and control. Watching the trailer, if you are sensitive to subject matter around SA, abuse, it might not be the watch for you. It does seem like a very dark and upsetting documentary.
I've actually never heard of any specific religious communities in New Zealand. I know that there are some in Australia. So, I'm definitely going to give this documentary a watch. I find it quite interesting and quite an upsetting watch. So, this is released on Paramount Plus on June 2nd. So, on June 5th, we actually have some of the biggest releases of the month. Now, I don't think it's going to match what we had in May, which was a huge month for horror, but we have the return of Scary Movie in theaters on June 5th. I am so excited for Scary Movie. I know it's silly. I know it's not everyone's taste and if you watch a lot of the old films, I know that the comedy does not hold up today, but I'm very curious to see how they will tackle comedy and humor within today's climate while still kind of adhering to the style of scary movie.
And I'm also very excited because this movie has the return of Anna Ferris. We have Regina Hall and of course Maron Wean's classic. So yeah, very excited for this one. In case you want to know, the first scary movie is probably my favorite and the one that I've definitely seen the most. And then scary movie 2. I I do like that one as well.
That will be in cinemas on June 5th and I already have my tickets so I will report back as soon as I see it. This is my most anticipated release of the month and it is Cape Fear. So this will be released on Apple TV on June 5th and it stars Javier Bardm, Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson. Honestly, the holy trinity for me. The television series is a modern reimagining of a classic psychological thriller. story follows a married couple whose lives spiral into paranoia when a dangerous figure from their past resurfaces. For this one, you're going to expect obsession, manipulation, and a lot of intense psychological moments. I remember the remake of Kate Fear was one of my favorites with Robert Dairo's performance, which was the most chilling of his performances I've ever seen. A very, very great movie to watch. If you are interested, you've never seen it before, definitely check out the Cape Fear remake with Robert Deniro. is incredible and very frightening. I think it's going to be pretty difficult to match Robert Dairo's performance from the 1991 Cape Fear. However, anyone were to take on this role, I think Javier Vadm is the perfect person for the job and he's also one of my favorite actors.
So, I will be sat for this series. I cannot wait to watch this. And you can watch it on Apple TV from June 5th. We have Chum, which arrives to VOD and streaming and limited releases on June 5th as well. So, Chum is an upcoming horror thriller film directed by Jonathan Zuck, starring Alice Eve, Eric Michael Cole, and L. Haymon. So, Chum tells a story about a newlywed couple that join the friends on a Mediterranean yacht excursion, only to find themselves caught between a predatory shark, a psychopathic killer. This one is very interesting. I'm not familiar with any of the actors in this, so bit of an indie horror. We'll see what happens.
Chum is the first of our creature features for June. You can check out on streaming from June 5th. Then on June 12th, we have Find Your Friends being released on Shudder. Find Your Friends stars Helen Howard as Amber and Bella Thorne as Levvenia and tells a story of a group of friends who visit Joshua Tree for a fun girls trip only to face hostility from the locals. So, I feel like this is going to be a very fun movie. A lot of tension. Quite excited to see this one. I think it'll be quite interesting. I'd love a stressful thriller horror set in situations where the locals don't like you or there's problems and the just tension increases increases from there. I find these movies extremely stressful to watch. So, I definitely can't wait to check that one out. So, you can find this movie on Shudder releasing on June 12th. Next, we also have another release on June 12th, which will be released on VOD to limited streaming, and this is Kraken. This is our second creature feature. One of my biggest fears is the ocean. I have theophobia, and I'm terrified of the ocean, which is quite ironic being Australian. But in addition to that, I also have megalo hydrotheralophobia, which is big objects in the ocean. That includes the kraken. I don't need to see that. I'm actually a bit nervous for this movie. I know this movie will probably freak me out. So, I'm excited to check it out and see what it's all about. Film stars Sarah Kami, Mikuel Rat Silic, and Ingvid Hul.
Sorry. Kraken is a Norwegian horror film, and I love Norwegian films. This is about an enormous sea monster that awakens to crush everything that moves or makes a sound in the waters of Norway. I've watched the trailer for this. I'm not sure how it's going to go.
I think this will be the creature feature for me this summer, but you can watch this one on streaming from June 12th. Next on the list, we have Deep Water. A group of passengers who are on route from Los Angeles to Shanghai and are forced to make an emergency landing in sharkinfested waters. Again, it's another shark horror movie and it stars Aaron Ehart, boy Ben Kingsley, and Angus Samson. So, we will see what this one's done. I probably will watch it just for Ben Kingsley. I really love him. And yeah, so if you are interested in this movie, heads to streaming on VOD from June 16th. If you're more into crime and mystery is more up your alley, on Netflix this month, we have I will find you releasing on June 18. This limited series is starring Sam Worththington, Milo Ventilia, and Brit L. Based on the novel by Harlon Cobin, the series follows a father in prison for the murder of his son who discovers evidence suggesting his child may still be alive.
This one I will be very interested to watch. I know my parents will probably want to watch this as well. I love a good mystery crime series. So, will be released on Netflix from June 18th and I'll absolutely be checking this one out. Directly following the series on June 19th, we have another release on Shudder with the voices of our mother starring Sheila McCarthy, Georgina Riley, and Marco O'Brien. When a family matriarch falls seriously ill, relatives gather and discover their shared ancestral ties bind them in unexpected ways. I watched the trailer for this one and it does look quite interesting.
However, I am concerned that it might fall into some familiar horror tropes.
However, looks quite unsettling. I really like the lighting and the cinematography. So, we'll just see what it has in store for us. You can watch the voices of our mother available on Shudder on June 19th. Next on the list, we have Leviticus. And I'm very excited for this one because it is an Australian horror. Love that represent. Leviticus tells a story of two teenage boys who must escape a violent entity that takes the form of the person they desire the most, each other. So, I'm actually very curious to see what this one's about.
I'm wondering if it might be a little bit heavy-handed on the themes, but I do love a good LGBT movie. I love an LGBT horror. So, we will see. And it stars Joe Bird and Stacy Clawson. Remember Joe Bird from Talk to Me? I am super excited to see his performance here. You can check out Leviticus in theaters from June 19th. Next on the list is Love is the Monster releasing on VOD streaming from June 23rd. This tells a story of troubled couples who head to a retreat in Finland where they fall prey to a malevolent ancient goddess of love. I thought this one could be promising, but I am a little bit worried about the special effects in this.
might seem a little bit corny, but if that's your thing, I think the film looks quite interesting in general, and I'll probably be checking it out anyway, just to see what it's all about. You can check this one out on streaming from June 23rd. Next, we have our final creature feature for the month, which is called Hungry. Hungry tells a story of a group of holiday makers must fight for their lives against a rampaging hippo on the loose within Louisiana swamplands.
This movie stars Madison Davenport, Tracy Boner, and Wakeim de Almeida.
We'll just see what it's all about. Both are genuinely scary, and they do freak me out a little bit, but I have low expectations for this film. I think it's just going to be a silly creature feature, fun to watch with friends, and if you are interested in this movie, you can check it out from June 23rd. On the list, we have Camp. A young woman arrives at a Christian summer camp to help get over her trauma with like-minded women, and we start to see the events unfold from there. This one actually looks quite interesting to me.
Do love a bit of a camp old school campfire horror with girls freaking out in the woods. It kind of reminds me of Yellow Jackets a little bit. So, I'm very curious to see what is in store for this movie. I don't think the trailer gives away too much. This movie stars Zola Grimmer and Alice Werdsworth. You can check this one out with a limited release in theaters from June 26th. And finally on the list today, we have a limited release on June 26th as well with a movie Strung. Now, I looked this up on IMDb and it's actually called Help on IMDb. I don't know if that's an error or it's just a different name in different countries. This movie stars Koko Jones and Lucy Leviscount, who you may remember from Emily in Paris. This tells a story of a talented violinist whose new job tutoring for an elite family turns into a battle for safety and sanity when she realizes her past links to the family's patriarch. It is a Blumhouse production, so bit risky, but we shall see. It does look like a fun ride. It looks like a mystery. I'm getting Get Out vibes from this movie a little bit. So, we shall see what's in store. You can check out Strung available on Peacock from June 26th. So, that is everything that's going to be released in June. I'll be definitely checking out the new scary movie and I'll also be sat for the Capefar TV series and Leviticus. So, let me know in the comments which you're most excited for and I'll be back soon with another video. Thanks guys. Bye.
