Local libraries offer free movie rentals including 4K Blu-rays, Blu-rays, and DVDs, providing a cost-effective alternative to blind buying movies; libraries also occasionally sell DVDs at significantly reduced prices (such as 50 cents each), allowing collectors to acquire physical media without the risk of purchasing films they may not enjoy.

How the Library Saved Me From Bad Movie Blind BuysAdded:
Hey y'all. So, I almost spent too much money again on 4K's blind buys. The last few blind buys I've bought, I um didn't like. I'm looking at you, Running Man, and Megalopouloolis. It occurred to me that there's a way to rent movies like the old days and it feels illegal, but it's not and it's free.
And they actually have 4K titles that you may want. One of them, in fact, was in my shopping cart and I got it for free instead.
I'm going to see if they have any for sale. A lot of times they have overstock.
I'm talking about your local library.
Pause the scroll. It's time to collect.
Okay, guys. I'm here in the library and I was told I can film, but I can't film people. You can see they have an expansive collection of Blu-rays and DVDs, but they also have 4Ks.
So, let's see what they have.
every single Indiana Jones movie.
A lot of crappy MCU titles classic This is the one that I literally had in my Amazon shopping cart and I get to watch it for free.
This is another one I was considering buying buying, but I can watch it for free.
And that is their small 4K selection, but you can see they have a ton of Blu-rays and mostly DVDs.
I wanted to say I did save some money.
So, uh, don't look now. and the creator.
All of which I watched from the library for free and none of which I'm going to buy. Drop a comment. Do y'all own any of those titles? Am I making a mistake?
You can look on their website to see what titles are at what location, but you can see they are absolutely stocked just like your old school local rental shop or Blockbuster.
All right, here are the titles for sale.
Let's see how much they are.
>> Uh, DVDs 50 cents each.
Have a good day.
Thank you.
So, um, I kind of love DVDs. If I don't keep the DVD clam cases, I will put them in the Criterion Style Amoray cases and use the artwork. I also love the menus and some of the features they have that Blu-rays and 4Ks did not port over. I got three DVDs. 50 cents a pop. $1.50 total. You do the math. Let's see what I got.
If y'all have not considered checking out your local library, I strongly recommend you do it. Not only do they have titles you can check out for free so you're not forced to blind by or even worse watch something on the streams, you can get a card for free, check things out and yada yada yada. It's our own private blockbuster. Granted, most libraries around this area um do have mostly DVDs, but they have a good selection of Blu-rays as well. and about that many 4Ks which I showed you in the video. Drop a comment. Let me know. Do y'all ever check out your libraries for physical media. As y'all saw, they had a sale and I did pick up three DVDs. They were 50 cents each and it is an honor system. So, you pick out the title you want, you drop the money in the little box there. Uh, we got Home Alone 3 and a movie I've never heard of. Home Alone Taking Back the House.
This will not take up shelf space. I am simply going to put these discs in the sleeve and insert these inside Home Alone 2. The kids actually quite enjoyed Home Alone 3. So, anyways, 50 cents for two movies. Uh, what a deal.
Next pickup is a drama/d dark comedy starring Bill Murray. I got it also for050ents.
I love this movie. I don't know if it's out in 4K. Uh the Blu-ray goes for quite a bit, so I got the DVD and it is Lost in Translation. Sophia Copela, I believe, was nominated for an Oscar for her directoral uh debut.
What a delightful film this is.
Unfortunately, some internet slleuth have cracked the final words that were spoken to Scarlett Johansson at the end of the movie. Some things are best left unsaid, but um the joys of DVD. Look at that. It comes with this awesome insert.
Get lost with Kierin Tokyo sweep stakes.
that Japanese style artwork and the more Kieran Ichiban uh advertisements on the back. Like I I love DVDs. They're they're great. Uh I'm just going to buy more of them and insert them into every single one of my 4Ks and Blu-rays. I love these inserts. I love the menus that are on most DVDs, the interactive menus. And also, I love the artwork. So, it goes spine to spine. There's no ugly Blu-ray banner at the top. There's no ugly 4K black banner at the top. It's just all artwork. And um as you've seen in my other videos, I Frankenstein these to hell and make my own criterion style cases. So there you go. Lost in translation.
Next pickup is a slapstick comedy starring Jim Carrey, also for 50 Cents.
I have only seen this movie once. I saw it in the theater back in the day, so I'm hoping this one holds up. It also stars Tia Leone and it is fun with Dick and Jane. I really don't remember much of this movie. I think I remembered he loses his job and then is jealous of the neighbors so steals all the neighbors shrubs and grass and throws it in his yard. I don't know if this is that movie but uh I can't wait to see it. I love these stickers on the cover. A hot new release. H I missed the days. And uh it originally I guess there was a resale for $13. $12.99 there. Um oh there it is. West Coast Video. God, I actually used to work there back in the day. I I was an employee at West Coast Video.
Wow, that is cool. Not in this state, though. So, um, also the joys of DVDs, uh, printed artwork on the disc. Another awesome insert. I just love these advertisement sleeves. And, uh, I probably, if this movie holds up, I'll upgrade it to the Blu-ray. But yeah, I'm super happy to have this.
Drop a comment and let me know what are some recent pickups y'all have gotten.
And um have you been to your library in your town? Do they sell or rent movies there? I'd love to love to see if this is unique to where I live or if it's all over the country and or world depending on where you are. I know I have uh viewers in Canada, UK, Ireland, Germany, uh Australia. I know I'm missing some, but thank y'all for watching. And uh until the next one, stay physical, stay alien, and I'll see you around.
