Home right-sizing should be understood as a deliberate health intervention rather than just a real estate transaction, because the discomfort, disorientation, and loneliness experienced in the first 90 days after moving are normal adaptation responses from your body, brain, and social system adjusting to a major environmental change; if you felt nothing, that would actually be more concerning as it would indicate the home wasn't significantly impacting your health to begin with.

Your Home Isn't a Backdrop, It's a Biological Variable #longevitysecrets #nextactninjasAdded:
you know, I treat your home as a health variable, not a backdrop to your life, not just a financial asset, a biological variable that's shaping your health span every single day. Which means right-sizing your home isn't just a real estate transaction. It's an intervention. It's a deliberate manipulation of one of the most consequential variables in your health longevity equation. And here's the thing about interventions, they are meant to produce a response. For example, if you start a new exercise program, those first couple of weeks are going to be hard, aren't they? Especially if you've slacked for a while. Your muscles might ache, your energy's going to tank. It's just going to feel hard. Or when you overhaul your nutrition, initially your gut feels off. You get headaches, food cravings, brain fog. Nobody would call those responses a failure. We'd call them adaptation. We expect them. We plan for them. And yet, when people right-size their home in retirement, they often forget it's an intervention.
They don't think of it as one of the most significant environmental health interventions that they're ever going to make.
So, when they feel disoriented or lonely for a few weeks, they panic. They think they made a mistake. Today, I want to reframe that entirely.
Because what you're feeling in those first 90 days after right-sizing isn't a sign the move was wrong. It's your body, your brain, and your social system doing exactly what they're supposed to do when a major variable changes. It's just an adaptation response. In fact, if you didn't feel anything, that would worry me way more.
Because it would mean the variable you changed wasn't impacting you much in the first place. Today, I want to walk you through what's actually happening when you manipulate this key health variable called home. You'll immediately see how it impacts multiple domains simultaneously. In fact, if you've played with my virtual coaching tool at all at coach.rightsizeretirement.com, then you'll recognize some of the domains I cover today.
