Mother charged with murder of toddler to appear in court

[00:00:00]A mother charged with the first degree murder of her toddler is set to appear in court today as the tragedy continues to ripple across a Scarborough community.

[00:00:10]It's an extremely tragic case. It's very difficult. It's been hard for the first responders, the officers that first entered the house as well as uh the paramedics, the firefighters, and all officers that have had contact with this case.

[00:00:26]The little girl died in hospital on Wednesday. Investigators say that it was her father who placed the 911 call to the home on Port Royal Trail near Midland and Steeles. He was not there at the time. Police have identified the child as Oreanna Cho and say that she was just 1 month shy of her second birthday. Her mother, 37-year-old Siu Ting Yang, is charged in her death.

[00:00:54]Mom was handcuffed and she she she didn't say anything. She's just quiet. Saw her take the kids to school as normal. And also in the summertime they spend time with the kids outside.

[00:01:16]The circumstances surrounding the toddler's death have not been released.

[00:01:19]The couple has another child who was not there at the time of the incident.
