That alone would be unbelievable, but it was just the beginning. During World War I, he was hit by bullets, shrapnel, explosions over and over again. At one point, a doctor tried to save his shattered hand, but he got impatient, so he tore off his own fingers and went back to battle. He lost an eye. He survived plane crashes. He escaped a prison camp by digging a tunnel, then went right back into the war. And somehow, he lived through all of it.
